1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / So, I've been out of the coin loop for a looong while... on: July 24, 2012, 08:05:26 PM
...and now there are all these damn alter-coin things.

Any of them worth notice, and if so, why ?
2  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Using sign feature: is there a risk in signing the address itself ? on: July 24, 2012, 08:01:19 PM
Hello!

I have a question:
Let's say I have a bitcoin address B
It's corresponding private key is kB

Let's say I sign a message that contains B, such as "Hello, B is the address I just signed with its own key" with kB.

Does this action pose any risk beyond "it really looks weird" ?
3  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Will all new releases for windows be strictly .exe installers? on: June 16, 2011, 10:45:21 PM
I have just noticed that the latest version is distributed exe-only. This is mildly uncomfortable for me, since I run my windows client in a Portable Apps wrapper (works almost like a charm, and way easier to keep backed up this way. Besides, I just like the tidiness the Portable Apps bring)

Are .zip releases gone for good?
4  Other / Meta / PMs and TOR - Dear mods, is it possible to whitelist me for TOR use? on: June 16, 2011, 08:31:39 AM
Hello dear moderators!

I see people using TOR and I2P are banned from using PM functions.

However, I would rather like to use it for legitimate purposes. Protection offered by banning TOR against people who use to PM viruses and spam is meager at best.

Can you allow users to utilize TOR on a user-by-user basis and whitelist those who do not misbehave (specifically, whitelist me for TOR usage Smiley )?

Thank you for your kind understanding.
5  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Bitcoins backed Chaumian currencies - are there any? on: June 14, 2011, 10:27:46 PM
Are there any services online that combine Bitcoin with David Chaum's blind signing protocol?

I do know of one  http://blindbitcoin.com/

The thing is, me and a group of friends intend to start one, based upon Open Transactions, and  are quite willing to cooperate with anyone who already works on marrying OT and bitcoins Smiley

P.S.:

I've made a similar topic while being in the newbie containment and asked a mod to throw it in general, but apparently general discussion did not pay much interest to the subject, so I humbly submit the question to the attention of the D & TD subforum.
6  Other / Beginners & Help / FPGA mining - insane? on: June 14, 2011, 12:25:22 PM
While I'm waiting for my noob restrictions to be lifted, here's an idea I find intriguing to discuss - would a properly configured FPGA miner machine "worth" it?

Ideas?

Opinions?

Evidence?
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin meets Open Transactions on: June 13, 2011, 10:18:25 PM
Are there any services online that combine Bitcoin with David Chaum's blind signing protocol?

So far I am aware of only one, http://blindbitcoin.com/ (and it appears down from where I sit)

The reason I ask about whether anyone else is working on bitcoin-backed Chaumian currencies is that me and a group of friends intend to start one, based upon Open Transactions, and  are quite willing to cooperate, thus standing on the shoulders of giants if said giants are already present in the field of "blinded" coins Cheesy
