1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Sapphire Nitro+ 470 4Gigs - What should my ETH hash rate be on Linux today ? on: January 14, 2018, 04:36:45 PM
Hi,

I set up a mining rig with 470's last may.

Then, I kinda forgot about it, it's been running flawlessly since then.

I'm running on Linux.

What hash rate should I be getting with that setup ?

Claymore reports 19-21 MHs, am I missing out ?

Any easy fixes ?

Does hash rate diminish over time ?

Tks.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How can one "protect" his/her crypto position against a sudden meltdown ? on: November 20, 2017, 10:50:51 PM
Let's say one has been fortunate enough to accumulate a sizable amount in cryptocurrencies.

Is there any financial product one can buy to "insure" against a sudden meltdown in crypto valuations ?

Please be specific if you can, add example if possible ?

Will the upcoming products from CBOE /CME be useful for that purpose ?

Thanks.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / I think I lost some btc ? on: November 05, 2017, 05:04:35 PM
Hi,

I wanted to buy some BitcoinCash quickly through an exchange with bitcoin as the source...  Usually I'd use my hardware wallet for the destination address, but I didn't have it handy, and decided I'd temporarily use a wallet that I'd create on a web site such as bitaddress.org, and then transfer to the hardware wallet when I get back home.

I do not remember which web site I used to create the temporary wallet.  When I created it, I copy-pasted the private key to a local file (or at least I think I did  Sad
), thinking I could then import the private key later into a client to access the BCH.

The problem is that I think I pasted the wrong information ??!?  I tried multiple BitcoinCash wallets, and whenever I try to import the private key, it doesn't work (I either get a "key not valid" message, or the wallet interface doesn't let me continue the import process (the "next" button is grayed out for example).

I've googled this a bit, it seems that keys would start with an L or a K, and have 52 characters ?

The thing I've pasted has 66 characters, only lowercase letters + numbers, and starts with 00 (zero zero).

Have I lost my btc, or is my 66-character thing really an encrypted version of my private key ?

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mixed GPU rig problem on: July 19, 2017, 11:36:02 AM
Hi,

I'm working on my 2nd rig right now.  The first one has 6 identical GPUs, while the current one has a mix.

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this problem.

I'm trying to get the first 4 GPUs to work simultaneously.  I have 1 Powercolor Red Dragon 580 8Gig, 1 MSI Armor 580 8 Gig, 1 Powercolor Red Devil 580 8 Gig, and 1 MSI Armor 570 4 Gig.

If I boot the rig up with only 1 card plugged in, no matter what card it is, I get Claymore up and running just fine.

However, whenever I have the Red Dragon up with some other card, the Red Dragon's fan doesn't work in Claymore, and the hashing is minimal at 4 MHs.

With all 4 cards, the Red Dragon shows the same behavior, while all other cards work fine.

I've tried running the Red Dragon on a different riser and it didn't solve the problem.

Any ideas ?

I'm running Claymore 9.7, and Crimson 17.x drivers.  All GPUs have their original BIOS.

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Undervolted linux rig help on: June 23, 2017, 09:35:39 PM
Hi,

I've successfully overclocked my 6 Sapphire Nitro+ OC 4Gb (3 Samsung, 3 Elpida) so that I now get 27 to 29 MHs on all of them mining ETH with Claymore.  This was done by altering the memory straps and jumping the core clock to 1206 and the memory clock to 2050.

The cards were flashed with ATIWinFlash on Windows, and then transferred to my Xubuntu rig.

So far so good.

The problem is that before overclocking, I was pulling 900 Watts from the wall, and now I'm up to close to 1200 Watts.

I did play with undervolting while on Windows with Sapphire Trixx, and it was also a success, the watts pulled from a single card would go down significantly.

What I have trouble wrapping my head around is how to make the undervolt change permanent on the card, so that when I move the card to Linux, it remains undervolted.  I've followed many guides so far (notably 1stminingrig.com, or Badger's 4-part series), and succeeded with none of them.

My questions are :

1- can undervolting be achieved by modifying values in Polaris Bios Editor, and then flashing the rom with ATIWinFlash,
2- if so, what values should I change in PBE if, for example, I've determined that lowering the volts by 100 mV in Sapphire Trixx gives a stable result ?
3- if not, how does one go about undervolting cards on linux ?

Thanks for your help
