I just received an email from someone pretending to be Mt. Gox, addressing me by my (fake) name I used to register for some service that probably had a data leak. The mail invites me to a call that promises new info on the Gox repayment process and tells me to have my account details ready. I suspect that this is some BS, since the sender domain is "mtgox-invite.online". Be aware, everyone.

I'm trying to send a bitcoin transaction. No matter if I do it from "all accounts" or from a specific input, when I enter my password to send I get a dialog box containing a warning sign and the number 0. I click "okay" and nothing happens.

Furthermore, when I type "!" to send all of my coins (only for "all accounts"), the Amount field autofills with double the actual balance. I haven't tried to send it yet.

I'm trying to switch from bitcoin-qt to Electrum because my hdd has a headache about the blockchain size. However, I want to keep using some of my old adresses, so I want to import my previous private keys. Unfortunately I didn't succeed ("unable to import private key" or similar). A Google search told me that this would happen when one tried to import private keys into a seedless wallet. The wallet has a seed, however. What now?

Ich studiere u.a. Geologie. Und sobald das irgendwer hört, kommt immer gleich "Oh, hey, ich hab hier diesen Stein gefunden, erzähl mir doch mal, was das ist!" Da denkt man sich schon manches Mal: Eigentlich müsste man dafür doch Geld nehmen... Und dann fiel mir ein, dass die Bitcoin-Economy ja vom Benutzen lebt und ich als Student sowieso immer zu wenig Geld habe, also biete ich jetzt mal meine Dienste gegen Trinkgeld.

Falls jemand Steine, Fossilien, Minerale oder andere erdsystemverwandte Dinge gefunden hat und sie gern mal fachlich eingeordnet hätte, kann man mir gern Fotos (oder optimalerweise direkt das Objekt, wenn ihr mal in Norddeutschland vorbeikommt) zeigen und ich versuche mein Bestes. Das hat zwar mit Bitcoin wenig zu tun, aber hier ist ja "offtopic", also bin ich mal so frei - ich möchte nämlich, dass Leute das erfahren, was auch seriöse Medien vorenthalten.

Meine Uni hat letztens eine Exkursion angeboten: Besichtigung des Erkundungsbergwerks Gorleben - da, wo seit Jahrzehnten um die Einrichtung eines Atommüllendlagers gestritten wird. Ich bin gern mitgefahren, in der Erwartung, schlechte Vertuschungsversuche für Wassereinbrüche, Gaslecks und was da nicht noch alles durch die Medien ging zu sehen und den Betreibern unangenehme Fragen stellen zu können. Das lief dann aber nicht ganz wie erwartet.

tl;dr: Die Medien lügen. Die Politiker sowieso. Erwarte keine Wahrheit, wenn du sie nicht selbst überprüft hast. Und wissenschaftlicher und technischer Fortschritt sind durchaus gern genommene Opfer, wenn man dafür Wählerstimmen bekommt.

I know I'm going to step on some feet with this and I'm probably setting myself up for a medium-sized shitstorm in my direction, but I need to get my frustration out.

I came here because I thought I could get interesting info, have constructive disputes and generally read and talk about the progress and future of the cryptocurrency revolution.
What I got:
Scammers trying to dupe people. Liars and trolls spreading FUD, trying to profit off gullible people or just trying to cause havoc for fun. People hating on each other because they have different opinions, insults flying low and pitchforks seemingly always at the ready.

There also appear to be many nice people on here, but by swamping me with a big amount of insufferable posts the (hopefully false) first impression this board gave me and is bound to give anyone is this: Bitcoiners are a greedy, remorseless, partly psychopathic, immature, hateful mob. I am almost sure this is a false impression, but it's what it looks like! Seriously, I have never felt less sympathy for any forum, even users of 4chan and Newgrounds have better social behaviour... and with this kind of culture you want to run a revolution that is supposed to make the world a better place? I honestly fear for the outcome.

Maybe I'm just lurking the wrong subforums, or maybe I'm unlucky to find troll parties in every thread I click on. I hope it's something like that.

Please, someone restore my faith in this subculture!
