21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Wallet Security on: March 13, 2013, 05:04:10 PM
So I just encrypted my wallet and want to know if I should take any other precautionary steps, apart from making sure I don't lose it, lose the passwords and someone stealing it?

26  Bitcoin / Mining / Putty + Ubuntu +SSH + Public/Private Keys = Not Working (Server refused our key) on: July 23, 2011, 12:56:27 PM
So I've followed numerous tutorials online, but each time I got Server refused our key:

I tried creating the keys with Puttygen and I also tried creating them on the server and converting private through Puttygen, but to no avail.

Anyone managed to connect via SSH with keys? A tutorial that works will be highly appreciated.

Am I mining properly?

Will this ([0 Accepted] [0 Rejected]) only increase when I find a block?
Is Result didn't meet full difficulty, not sending to be expected from Solo Mining?

28  Bitcoin / Mining support / Shares and Solo Mining on: July 12, 2011, 10:04:15 PM
Probably a dumb question, but are there any shares involved when mining solo? I'm aware that you need to point the miner to the Bitcoin application which acts as a server but how does it work?

And also is there a formula to calculate shares from the speed in Mhash/s you have?

30  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Noise and Heat Levels with multiple systems on: July 11, 2011, 03:47:51 AM
So currently I have a dedicated mining rig sitting in the corridor of my flat and being just 3.6m away from where I lay my head to sleep with one door in between.

1 - I'm curious what will be the subjective noise level increase if I add one more machine emitting the same level of noise? Will there be any difference at all?
2 - What about with 3 rigs in total? Will I notice a significant increase in noise levels compared to just 1 rig?

The weather in the UK is pretty good for mining even in the summer with daily temperatures being in the 20C region at the moment
3 - Would 3 rigs create much more heat compared to one? If there is some air flow created by opened windows at 2 ends and the air temps in the premises are 25C is it reasonable to expect 30+ with 3 rigs?

Thank you.
31  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Mixing different cards on the same motherboard on: July 09, 2011, 04:23:53 AM
So can I expect any problems mixing 5850/5870/5970/6990 on the same motherboard under Ubuntu?

Would it make any difference which cards I mix or some go better with others? Best combinations in terms of less issues?

Share your thoughts please Smiley
32  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / What about 4x Oc'd 5970 Setup? on: July 07, 2011, 07:54:13 PM
Do you think it is wise to put 4x oc'd 5970 together in a case like this:

For the PSU I'm thinking of either 1x Silverstone SST-ST1500 or 2x Corsair HX850 the latter being one awesome PSU (I have 2 of these myself).

Do you think I might have any problems with Gigabyte GA-770T-D3L which I currently use for 4x oc'd 5870.
Maybe not enough power coming through the PCI-X slots to the cards?

33  Bitcoin / Mining support / Help me find out why my machine stopped mining during the night on: July 01, 2011, 01:12:54 PM
So I just started mining using:
4x XFX 5870 @ 960Mhz Core = 434 Mhash/s = 70 degrees maximum temp.
Gigabyte GA-770T-D3L, AMD 770, AM3
AMD Athlon II X2 250
Ubuntu 11.04 32bit
SDK 2.1
Latest Phoenix using phatk kernel

I left the machine mining at 5am and went to bed.
When I woke up it wasn't mining so I tried to connect unsuccessfully using VNC. I then connected using SSH successfully and did sudo reboot.
I checked the logs after the reboot they indicated that it stopped 2 hours earlier.

Here are the kern.log and syslog

Is this normal?

Quote
Jul  1 09:40:32 Woody kernel: [17160.748408] INFO: task phoenix.py:3170 blocked for more than 120 seconds.

If you need any other logs please ask.

How can I find out why it stopped mining?

34  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Which miner + settings are best for my setup (currently ~1.7 Ghash/s) on: June 29, 2011, 05:25:04 AM
The details:

4x 5870 @ 960Mhz Core and 300Mhz Memory
Ubuntu 11.04 32bit
SDK 2.1
Drivers: 11.5

Phoenix settings:
Quote
-k phatk VECTORS DEVICE=0 BFI_INT WORKSIZE=256 FASTLOOP=false AGGRESSION=11
or
Quote
-k poclbm VECTORS DEVICE=0 BFI_INT WORKSIZE=256 FASTLOOP=false AGGRESSION=11

Poclbm settings:
Quote
--device=0 -v -w 128 -f 1

Current best result: ~430 Mhash/s per each card using phoenix with either phatk or poclbm kernel.
Using just poclbm drops to around average 428 Mhash/s

So do you think that's the best I can get or is there any room for improvemements?
Maybe SDK 2.4, but I read it is slower than 2.1
Or maybe the newest 11.6 drivers?

Any other suggestions?
35  Bitcoin / Mining support / Ubuntu: My Wifi Connection gets corrupted after installing the video drivers on: June 27, 2011, 05:13:33 PM
Ubuntu 11.04 32bit
TP-Link TL-WN821N which is listed HERE as supported using the ar9170usb driver.

So I've done 5 fresh reinstalls and each time after a specific step following THIS guide my Wireless connection gets corrupted and does not want to work.

The last time I did all the changes in small steps so I can catch the offending one and so after I've executed the code below and restarted my system the wifi went haywire:

Quote
cd ~
sudo apt-get install dkms
wget http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-11-5-x86.x86_64.run
sudo sh ati-driver-installer-11-5-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/natty
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo aticonfig -f --initial --adapter=all
sudo reboot

On my next fresh installation all I did was:
Quote
wget http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-11-5-x86.x86_64.run
sudo sh ati-driver-installer-11-3-x86.x86_64.run
sudo reboot

Up until that point everything was working just fine and I was remotely managing my desktop using a Windows VNC Viewer and Ubuntu Remote Desktop.

The Live version of Ubuntu creates no problem with my USB Wifi dongle as well.

I would like to stress out that my connection is configured properly and I am 100% certain of that - as I said it is working like a charm up until the point of installing the video driver and restarting.

36  Other / Beginners & Help / The Most Cost Effective Mining Rig? on: June 14, 2011, 02:05:11 PM
I am one step away from buying the rig, but just want confirmation I haven't missed anything:

4x XFX 5870
GIGABYTE GA-770T-D3L (has 1 x16 slot and 4 x1 slots)
AMD Sempron 140 2.7GHz AM3 (do you think it might cause 100% CPU usage under Linux?)
Kingston KVR1333D3N9/2G ValueRAM / 2GB 1333MHz
Corsair HX850 - 2 different reviews has confirmed it can output 1000W if needed.
4x PCI Express Riser Card Flexible Cable Adapter PCIe x1
2 x Coolermaster SickleFLow Blue LED Quiet Case Fan 120mm  (will be positioned on top of the cards for additional airflow)
8GB USB Flash Drive to install Ubuntu or LinuxCoin on
USB Wifi Dongle (not using wired connection)

No case, but DIY project
No monitor, mouse or keyboard needed

I would expect 1.6Ghash/s from it when overclocked = 180W max for each card

Any suggestions or comments are more than welcome.
