2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Pioneer 1 on: March 21, 2011, 12:11:44 AM
Anyone else been watching pioneer 1?  It's a freely distributed series, available as xvid over torrent from vodo.  They take donations, and when they raise a certain amount of cash they release the next episode.  I like the business model, I emailed requesting that they accept donations in bitcoin.  If anyone else thinks that's a good idea why don't you shoot them an email too, and see if we can't get them to embrace bitcoin.  Paying for media distribution and creation, since it is purely virtual goods, seems like an ideal task for bitcoin.
3  Economy / Marketplace / Hosting services on: February 22, 2011, 12:12:14 PM
I'll host wordpress blogs for 5 dollars a month in bitcoins at the going mt gox rate. For blogs I don't need to know who you are, just send the bitcoins and all is well, I will however immediately disable anyone who is hosting illegal or excessively bandwidth hogging content (file storage services and such), since my hosting would disable my account if I allowed that to go on.  Also I can help with setting up other websites.  I can set up and host Prestashop sites, with a mybitcoin payment system.  I've been listing the price for prestashop stores as $40 a month, which seems equivalent to competition given that I don't request a portion of sales revenue.  I can also help you set up openvbx and twilio so you can create custom telephone applications, which will make your business seem that much more professional, tell me what you want and  I'll try to come up with an estimate.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / drop in btc value on: February 18, 2011, 09:31:36 PM
anyone else notice that bitcoin has lost about 20% of it's value in the last couple hours?
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / mybitcoin on: February 18, 2011, 12:19:41 AM
Mybitcoin works great, but I can't help but notice there is no way to recover a lost password.  What happens when  a user forgets their password?
6  Economy / Marketplace / webshops on: February 16, 2011, 07:02:44 AM
Working out the last kinks in my prestashop module.  I was thinking about starting a small business hosting prestashop webshops for people, accepting dollars, or of course bitcoins.  My hosting is on a VPS on dreamhost, and any shops I hosted there would have to follow their TOS (so nothing illegal, obviously, and no selling storage/backup services or anything resource hogging like that).  I'd be willing to set up and host prestashop, set up a mybitcoin account, link it to the plugin, test it, and then hand over the keys and continue to host it for a monthly fee (at which point you would obviously change the passwords and such).  Would there be any interest in that?  What would it be worth to people?  I was thinking of making a domain just for bitcoin shops, like bitcoinshops.com/<yourstorename> but of course I can register domains and such too.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Trade Deficits on: February 15, 2011, 10:06:11 AM
A thought occured to me today.  For the most part, actual goods have to be purchased somewhere along the line in some sort of national currency.  That is to say, even those who do business in bitcoins, at least have to buy raw materials in dollars/euros etc at the moment, and probably will for quite some time.  This automatically leads to a trade deficit between the bitcoin community, and the various national currencies.   For the time being, lots of people have been wanting to join, and have been buying bitcoins for national currency, this has more than equaled any deficit due to spending bitcoins on other things, as evidenced by the sharp increase in value.  Eventually this will level off.  In order for this not to become a problem in the long run, there would have to be goods/services that could only be (or at the very least are much better to be) purchased in bitcoins, forcing people to exchange fiat currency for bitcoins and closing the trade deficit.  Maybe this isn't a problem at all, once the bitcoin community becomes big enough a large enough number of people will prefer to store their wealth that way that when they are paid in FRN they will exchange that to bitcoin?
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / does anyone use the poker site? on: February 14, 2011, 02:11:05 AM
I was just looking at that bitcoin poker site, it looks really nice, but there is no one at any of the tables?  Maybe there should be a thread somewhere for people that want to work out times to play poker with bitcoins?  Maybe this is that thread?
9  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / MyBitCoin SCI on: February 13, 2011, 12:27:48 AM
I'm having a spot of trouble with the MBC SCI.  For some reason my receipt handler script does not appear to be being called at all, I had written my own but I am currently back to just trying to get the example one to work.  I can write to /tmp from php scripts.  Is there an easy way to verify what the issue is?  is the receipt handler script supposed to be called any time when coins are sent to my MBC account, or is there something I have to do to make sure it knows that it is a payment button?
10  Economy / Marketplace / stuff I'd be willing to sell on: November 30, 2010, 03:46:25 AM
I've also been thinking if there is anyone willing to be non-anonymous we could maybe set up a time and place in the dallas area to exchange cash and items for bitcoins.  A starbucks or a bar with wifi would be ideal since everyone could have a laptop to carry out the bitcoin exchanges.
11  Economy / Marketplace / Prestashop Module on: November 29, 2010, 08:26:45 PM
I'm beginning work on a module for prestashop to accept bitcoins using mybitcoin's sci toolkit.  Is there anyone else interested in this project?  even better would be someone with PHP experience because I'm kinda working blind, I think  i can figure it out but it's gonna take a while.  If/when it is working I'll post a link somewhere here.  I think it would be really helpful for the whole bitcoin economy if an easy to use FOSS shopping cart had a ready to use payment module.  Cheers
