1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [PROPOSED] JIZZCOIN - Give life to a coin that's a little unique! on: May 16, 2014, 11:11:10 PM
Hey guys,

So a friend and I were discussing how unexciting DOGE coin is yet became popular due to troll factor. So we came up with the following coin concept.

I have little technical background, so some of what I propose may be completely unrealistic but it would be cool if it could have it do the following:

- Discovered blocks take 9 months to reach maturity (Maybe some method of double confirmation. stage 1 to confirm the block or a "Junior Block" of sorts. stage 2 after 9 months larger coin or to distribute the wealth?)
- Chance for block to be a "Dud" with no reward
- Orphaned blocks may be accepted somehow by two parents if they manage to hash a particular algorithm ?

Anyway, Have fun with the concept and discuss if you're bored. If anyone is serious about doing something with it send me a PM as i've got the domain . You are welcome to it!

Cheers  Grin
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Best method to recover this particular corrupt wallet. on: November 08, 2013, 10:06:32 PM
Hi guys,

I have a corrupt wallet from the following scenario.

128gb SSD -> about 95% full with bitcoin-QT and wallet with 8 bitcoins on it.
HDD is quickformatted to win7
Approx 5gb of software installed (I would estimate still around 75% free)
Oh shit moment realised..

HDD removed -> put into other PC -> used Runtime GetDataBack to find wallet.dat

Wallet.dat is reading 1100kb

Have tried various Bitcoin-QT restore methods but all still saying corrupt.

I've also sent a copy to someone I trust and they are saying the file is blank ? Not sure what this means as its reading 1100kb.

What is the best procedure from here? should I try starting all over again from a Linux LiveCD with different recovery software? Then a different restore method?

Will donate something substantial to anyone who is able to provide successful help Smiley

3  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Network synchronization - future problem? on: August 20, 2013, 04:04:25 AM
I don't understand a whole lot how the bitcoin client actually works, however today I installed bitcoin-qt onto a new machine and it started synchronizing with "250" weeks behind? - after 10 hours it still has 54 weeks to synchronize.

Is it going through the history of every transaction of bitcoin? - in another 10 years will this take a month + to synchronize??

4  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Other uses for Asics if not to mine cryptocurrencies ? on: August 14, 2013, 03:26:27 AM

As a batch#3 avalon owner, I have come to the realization I will more than likely never make my ROI, and unless bitcoins increase several orders of magnitude the likely outcome will be to turn it off in the next few months.

What else can all of this hashing power be used for? Search for ET? Brute forcing things?

I know it will probably make a nice museum piece in another 1000 years but other than that... any suggestions? Smiley

6  Bitcoin / Hardware / Batch #2 & Batch # 3 Avalon - Shipped? on: May 09, 2013, 11:28:30 AM

Is shipping of Batch #2 complete? if not.. Has it at least Started?

I'm guessing the May 5 date for Batch# 3 isn't happening.. or is it? Anyone received one yet?  Undecided

8  Economy / Economics / BTC-E vs Mt.GOX ... List price .. I don't get it. on: April 05, 2013, 10:32:38 PM
So. - As I type this the current list price for BTC/USD is the following.

BTC-E BTC/USD: $112.92
MT.GOX BTC/USD: $143.20

So firstly, why such a big difference between the 2 exchanges.. and wouldn't it be a no brainer to buy say $100k worth on BTC-E - Transfer them to MT.Gox and sell at a profit? (even with small transaction fees) - or have i completely missed something? o_O

I don't get it...  Huh
9  Economy / Economics / How many bitcoins are missing? on: April 03, 2013, 09:13:25 AM
It got me thinking.... how many bitcoins are already lost forever due to PC's destroyed in fires, HDD's crashing etc.. Is there even a way to know?  Huh
