Ministry of Education (MOE), Malaysia has created a new consortium of universities to track blockchain technology to deal with the massive industry in fake certificates.

The Ministry of Education has published a press release regarding the new idea over the blockchain. A Twitter post says that six universities have introduced a blockchain-based system called e-Scroll for the issuance and verification of university degrees.

Even though Google has been cracking down on malicious cryptocurrency apps for years, it seems that another cryptocurrency app has been able to slip through the review process.
Once the malware is installed, it silently waits in the background for the opportunity to make its move. When the user opens an app like Binance, the malware creates an overlay that is placed on top of the legit app. As the user enters their credentials, the information is recorded and sent to the phishers.
The app has been removed from the Google Play store. Malwares like these are hard to spot as the app does work as advertised. Stefanko has said that users should check the rating and reliability of the app publisher and stick with apps that are verified to ensure security.

The cryptocurrency space has been a victim of various cryptocurrency hacking, cryptojacking, scams, and more. Recently Cybercriminals hacked StatCounter, one of the largest website traffic analytics platforms. The hackers transferred malicious code into more than 600,000 websites. The purpose was to gain access to Bitcoin held at the cryptocurrency exchange Gate.io.

Hackers had also tried to hide their tracks by using a various Bitcoin address for each new victim that falls prey to the malware. Users won’t see the change of address until it’s too late, as the malware is designed to trigger after the user clicks on the submit button to transfer funds.

Wissanu Krea-ngam, the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, has called for more regulations on cryptocurrencies.

Earlier this year Thailand introduced a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies. Krea-ngam said that new measures must be introduced both domestically and internationally.

Krea-ngam was recently a part of the Counter-Terrorism Financing Summit. Meantime, he said that experts should not be satisfied with current security protocols so as not to shuffle behind criminals that would use digital currencies for funding terrorism or money laundering. Krea-ngam also added that the anonymous nature of some cryptocurrencies poses the security challenges.

Massive Floods in the Sichuan province of China have reportedly in extensive damage to a major cryptocurrency mining operation in the area. The news published on local blockchain and crypto information platform Golden Finance.

Ecns, the official English-language outlet of the China News Service (CNS), has published that Sichuan and four other provinces in China received heavy rainfall on 27 & 28 June resulting in floods.

Golden Finance asserted that a major digital currency mining operation in Sichuan had been massively affected, pointing to a loss of “tens of thousands” of mining devices. The miners seem “almost impossible” to repair, according to the site.

As press time it remains unclear what digital currencies were being mined on the devices and how they have been lost to the flood.

Zuckerberg’s name is usually associated with Facebook and it’s subsidiaries. This time around, the Facebook founder’s sister is making headlines.

Randi Zuckerberg recently joined the advisory board at a major cryptocurrency exchange. The news came to light through a press release that announced that Huobi is assigning an expert advisory team for their exchange. The board also consists of Jihan Wu, the CEO of Bitmain, the crypto mining giant. Notably, Huobi is one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world.

Wu and Randi will focus on Huobi’s Public Chain system. In fact, the company has even organized a competition for the same. The project is geared towards providing individuals and organizations with a reliable financial protocol. This protocol includes fundraising, securities and more. Since this project is based on a decentralized P2P network, anyone can join and participate in the project.

Randi Zuckerberg is a Harvard graduate and has worked at Facebook for over six years. She has also founded Zuckerberg Media and is the Editor-in-Chief of Dot Complicated. West Bengal’s municipalities are launching an application on the blockchain. The Netherlands-based company named Lynked.world is developing the platform.

Durgapur and Bankura Municipal Corporation will use blockchain technology to handle administrative operations. These operations are used to make legal documents like birth certificates. It will also process requests and verify the legal identities.

Arun Kumar, CEO, Lynked.wolrd seemed to be excited about the partnership. He explained the reason for launching such platform. The new platform would help reducing time while verifying our legal documents.

The CEO revealed that the platform is ready to launch. Durgapur and Bankura Municipalities will issue birth certificates and other legal documents starting from September 2018. Over one million certificates are expected to be issued using blockchain by the end of the year.

On Tuesday the HM Land Registry announced that it is starting with the second phase of its ongoing blockchain research work. The announcement says that the agency is collaborating with blockchain company R3. The plan is to develop a platform which can store land registration information and streamline the process for buying and selling of properties. The new project will be built on R3’s Corda framework.

While speaking about the collaboration between governments and companies, recently Australian Government also partnered with IBM to create national blockchain. The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) also published a report regarding the new initiative. The platform is called the Australian National Blockchain (ANB).

A week ago, India was graced by the country’s first cryptocurrency ATM. This ATM was installed in Kempfort Mall, Bengaluru. Within the week, the Cyber Crime Police in the city registered a case against Unocoin and its founders for installing the ATM without any prior permission. The co-founder of the company, Harish BN was also arrested by the police.

Even though the Reserve Bank of India had banned banks and other financial outlets from dealing in cryptocurrencies, Unocoin went ahead and installed the ATM. Notably, RBI is the main regulatory financial body in India.
