Jake Paul has announced his return to the ring and the opponent will be none other than former middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. This is honestly nothing more than another money grab fight. Chavez has recently been in jail, rehab treatment, and a psych hospital. He has not looked good in about a decade and he lost to an old Anderson Silva, who Jake Paul beat in a wide unanimous decision.

After a year of being inactive, John Riel Casimero will make his return to the ring against former title challenger Saul Sanchez. Sanchez is ranked #13 and #8 by the WBC and WBO in the bantamweight division. Earlier this year, he lost a majority decision to Jason Moloney. He is a decent quality fringe contender. The fight will be in Japan and if Casimero has any hope of getting a fight against Naoya Inoue, he will have to win impressively by knockout against this opponent who is coming up in weight.

It is confirmed that Edgar Berlanga will be Canelo’s next opponent. Berlanga was once a hyped up prospect after starting his career with 16 consecutive first round knockouts. That was all smoke and mirrors because once he stepped up his level of competition he looked very unimpressive and would struggle his way to decision wins. This will be a heavily criticized decision for Canelo, who is clearly avoiding the dangerous David Benavidez, and instead chooses to fight a much lower level of competition. The date is interesting because they will be competing directly against the UFC’s event at The Sphere, which Dana White has stated “will be the greatest sporting event of all time”. With such a lame main event and a weak undercard, I expect Canelo’s fight to be completely overshadowed by the UFC.

Earlier today, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman announced that David Benavidez will be facing former light heavyweight champion Olexandr “The Nail” Gvozdyk for the interim championship. Artur Beterbiev is still the real WBC champion and currently active. It seems like they are only creating this belt for Benavidez as a way to save face for not being able to enforce his mandatory status against Canelo, who is very obviously avoiding Benavidez. Gvozdyk is a fighter with an excellent record. His only loss has come against Artur Beterbiev. After the loss, he took a 3 year break from the sport and came back last year. He is now 36 years old and his comeback fights were against mediocre competition. I think these factors will make Benavidez the favorite in this fight. https://twitter.com/wbcmoro/status/1760770531215691983

Today, it was announced by Saudi Arabia’s Chairman of General Entertainment Authority Turki Alalshikh that the fight for the undisputed light heavyweight championship will take place on June 1st. This is one of the most anticipated matchups by boxing fans. Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol are both undefeated, elite pound for pound champions who are at the peak of their careers. Beterbiev is known for his devastating power and is the only active champion with a 100% knockout ratio, while Bivol is more of a technician who wins his fights by decision. Beterbiev has more belts but Bivol has the more significant accomplishment of having beaten Canelo Alvarez. It will be an interesting clash of styles. After several years of stalling we will finally be able to determine who is the better fighter thanks to the Saudis and their oil money. To make this event more intriguing, the undercard will be made up of fights involving bitter rivals Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren’s stables. https://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/id/39452288/artur-beterbiev-dmitry-bivol-fight-set-june-1-saudi-arabia

After failing to become the undisputed lightweight champion, in a narrow and controversial decision, Vasiliy Lomachenko will now fight former unified champion George Kambosos in Australia for the IBF title. After seeing Loma's performance against Haney, who had a considerable size and height advantage, I don't see Kambosos as being too much of an obstacle for him. George Kambosos last fight was in July of last year in which he won an unimpressive majority decision against fringe contender Maxi Hughes. Kambosos was supposed to fight Loma already but, due to the conflict in Ukraine, he faced Haney instead and lost his belts in the first defense after defeating Teofimo Lopez. Outside of his victory against a Teofimo, who had been facing health issues, Kambosos has had an unremarkable career and the betting odds should heavily favor Lomachenko. https://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/id/39308945/vasiliy-lomachenko-george-kambosos-fight-set-12

It has been confirmed that Anthony Joshua will be fighting Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia on March 9th. Deontay Wilder was supposed to be the original opponent but that plan fell apart after Wilder’s upset loss to Joseph Parker. Anthony Joshua is coming off his best win since losing his titles to Andy Ruiz. Francis Ngannou’s previous fight was his pro debut against Tyson Fury in which he scored a knockdown against the lineal heavyweight champion. I doubt Joshua will take this fight lightly so we will see if Ngannou is a real contender or if his performance against Fury was just a fluke. https://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/id/39249014/francis-ngannou-anthony-joshua-square-boxing-match

After becoming undisputed champion at super middleweight Canelo is now prepared for his next challenge. He will be moving up two weight classes to face WBC cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu. This opponent is not very well known but he has a high knockout percentage with 25 KOs in 28 victories and he has not had a loss in over 5 years. It will be an impressive feat if Canelo can become champion at cruiserweight after starting his career fighting in the jr. welterweight division.

Just two months after his dominant performance over Callum Smith, Canelo Alvarez (54-1-2, 36 KOs) returns to the ring to face Avni Yildirim (21-2, 12 KOs). This is just getting his mandatory fight out of the way and I don't expect Canelo to have any problems with the Turkish fighter. Yildirim was last active two years ago in a fight that he lost in a controversial decision. The fight will take place on February 27 in Miami at Hard Rock Stadium.

There is already several casinos taking bets on the fight with Tyson Fury being the favorite according to the odds tracking site Pro Boxing Odds.

After the success of the Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. exhibition fight, Floyd Mayweather has decided to follow in their footsteps and will be fighting Logan Paul in an exhibition fight. Logan did not look good in his fights against KSi so this should be an easy fight for Floyd. The one advantage the Youtuber has is his size, he is a natural cruiserweight. The fight will be on Sunday June 6th at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

On December 18th, GGG will make his long awaited return to the boxing ring to face his mandatory challenger Kamil Szeremeta. GGG will be making the 21st defense of his middleweight title. These are not consecutive defenses since he already lost to Canelo but it is still an impressive record nonetheless. The odds are not yet available but GGG should be a huge favorite. Szeremeta is undefeated but the most notable opponent on his record is former champion Kassim Ouma who was a decade past his prime. He also only has 5 knockouts in 21 fights. I expect GGG to end the fight with an early knockout. Anything less would be a disapointment and would show that maybe GGG is no longer an elite level fighter.

An exploit in DeFi protocol Harvest Finance has caused over $25 million in funds to be stolen. Most of these funds have been traded for renBTC and mixed through Tornado Cash. The protocols native token FARM has fallen 65% in value. It's possible that this could be an exit scam since Harvest Finance's anonymous devs supposedly have an admin key that can drain the protocol's contract. https://www.coindesk.com/defi-platform-harvest-finance-exploit

There is serious discussion happening to try and make a Pacquiao vs. McGregor fight. McGregor is coming off a win in a tune up fight in January. His last win in a championship fight was in 2016. His record in MMA is 22-4, in boxing he is 0-1. Manny Pacquiao has a record of 62-7-2 and is coming off a win against Keith Thurman for the WBA Welterweight Title in July of 2019. Manny Pacquiao opens as the heavy betting favorite.
