I assume this is off-topic so I'm posting here. Just wanted to say congrats to those who have held for many, many years. It takes a hell of a lot of conviction to ride the crazy wave that is BTC. Now that governments are adopting (even talking about HODL'ing) crypto it's crazy to see how far this has come. Many of us predicted that 1 satoshi may ultimately be worth 1 penny. This means that a single bitcoin would be worth $1 million (with a total market cap of 21 trillion). I'm not sure who will have the strength to hold on for that long but given all the momentum there's a real possibility this can happen. If it does *future bitcoiners* I wish you all the best of luck.

I'm curious how many held their "bags" and are now retired, and living the high life vs. those that sold (*cough*) and still slogging through the workfroce.

Anyone find any good options for cryptocurrency insurance? Sadly the exchanges don't seem to offer it (at least the big ones). It would beneficial for folks that have a couple $1k of crypto to insure it for $10/year.

Hi folks,
Are there any reliable altcoin review websites out there that list all the available altcoins, and review based on # developers, ownership level, technology, etc...?
Most of the sites I see these days seem to be scammer/ad-affiliated and trying to sell their own coin (like bitdegree.org)
thanks

Looking for a way to split the BCH / BSV coins. Best I can tell electron cash no longer works. ElectrumSV seems like the next best method (vs. sending to an exchange). Is ElectrumSV actually safe to use?
Another method I think would work is to send some BCH dust to my BCH wallet but not sure I trust that method as much.
thanks, MArk

So I have some mBTC on my core wallet. Not much. Thought I'd transfer a bit to a friend. Only a couple mBTC. Thought economy would be a good idea at 0.06mBTC (46 cents fee?). 12hrs later this transaction is still stuck. So question - is the standard android bitcoin wallet just very bad now, or is it impossible to do small transactions with Bitcoin unless you pay an exorbitant fee?

So it seems this is a sketchy coin trying to promote mobile mining (when PC mining would be far more effective). Anyone know if they plan to release the PC mining code ahead of time, or are they keeping it to themselves?

Been a while since I've played with bitcoin. Tried the electrum client out recently, kind of nice. I tried experimenting with some old wallet with 1mbtc in it, sweeping it and moving to a electrum address. I was a bit stunned to see the fee is roughly 0.6mbtc, so I only get 0.4 mbtc left Is this typical? What happened to the days of 0.1mbtc (or less) fees?

Curious if anyone has looked into this. Let's say hypothetically you create a new altcoin. You end up pre-mining X amount, and also mine Y amount. Then people start to get interested in it, and you sell your X for bitcoin, and later you mine Y for bitcoin. Does this fall under the "money transmitter" guidelines, and have to register with FinCEN (if you're in the states)? I don't think this is the case but wondered if anyone else encountered this.

Summary is that I traded quarkcoin on this site last year. I logged in later this year and decided to withdraw after hearing users were having issues. I started to withdraw my 300k quark. The odd thing is that after a couple test withdrawals of 5k, the big withdrawals (10k or more) stalled out. They would sit there for "days" in the system. I tried contacting the admin but no response, tried submitting tickets no response. Finally I emailed Saif and sent him a variety of emails. After a couple weeks he responded and sent me a few quark (I think it was like 50k). I said thanks but asked for the full amount. More delays... many weeks later gives me another 50k. Once again I said thanks but asked for the full amount (about 140k). No response for "months". Meanwhile I find that my account on coins-e says it's been deleted by user. Actually it says something stupid like "This account haven been delete by the user".
From reading other postings I'm pretty sure this site is MTGox'ing people. It's based in Canada, Saif lives in Canada. I'm thinking of contacting the authorities to escalate this. Any thoughts on yay or nay on this? I have full logs of my transactions, and snapshots of my account because I figured they'd do something fishy. It's not the $ I care about but rather the principal of the matter. I'm sure these guys are playing this game with *many* people.

Curious about the US rules for a new crypto exchange. If the platform only enables exchanging of altcoins for bitcoin or other coins (i.e. no real currency is involved), is it still labeled a money transmitter, and you need to register with FINCEN or no?

I've been out of the Bitcoin seen for about 9 months. Primarily because of work, but secondly because I've mostly had it with the hacks (mtgox), exploits, and other Ponzi coin scams (e.g. altcoins like dogecoin) bouncing around. In each of these I've lost a small number of coins, much smaller than I made but still annoying nonetheless. Now that I've come back I read that bitstamp was hacked, mcxnow went down (boy was I naive on that one), and a variety of sites are down or destabilizing. Of course bitcoin price has fallen which further depresses our overall market cap but that's an aside.
It occurred to me that bitcoin, as a secure transaction system that fixes the double-spending problem has 100% succeeded. Where it has failed, miserably in fact, is providing a simple, secure system for storing and spending your funds. Others can say it's simple, use an offline wallet, store your keys in a usb stick under your pillow, be smart and you won't get hacked. Well that only goes so far, because some of the "pros" still get hacked even though they followed this supposedly secure processes. The point is, there is no way we'll convince the mainstream to use bitcoin when it's technically difficult to secure your coins, and greedy bitcoin crooks are out there to take their coins as soon as they misstep. I'm sure when fiat first started out there were similar problems, buddy A stealing from buddy B. Except a lynch mob would find A and then hang him. People learned really quickly that the consequences of stealing fiat was far too high. Why are there few/no consequences for stealing bitcoin? Our supposed "forever" blockchain isn't tracking down the Mark Karpeles 100s of millions of BTC that were stolen - WHY!? People have lost faith in bitcoin because apparently we have no decent way to resolve these situations. As I said - technically bitcoin has shown it works, but it doesn't have any level of oversight to stop greedy exploiters from ruining it. This *really* needs to be fixed to get bitcoin to the next level. Maybe it's a centralized bitcoin bank, or an overseeing body. I'm not sure but until we get there the public at large will continue to shy away from bitcoin.

I have been mulling over a concept for an innovative altcoin for awhile now. It would hopefully help solve some of the prevalent problems we have on this forum, but also be fair, serve a purpose and basically try its best to not be *scammed*. The base for the coin is not that important, how it is used "is" important. I'm curious if anyone has a favorite "base"? I actually like the cpu coins because they give everyone a fair share, but can see the desire to go with a gpu based coin as well. Some thoughts are:
- litecoin clone = gpu + new scrypt asics - litecoin n-factor = gpu - cpu coin options = quark, or one of the new variations
Assuming I go with a cpu coin would Quark be the best or is there a new, better base that can be used? Any thoughts/comments appreciated.
Cheers, Mark

I have ~5 BTC left in my MTGOX acocunt. Main reason is that I believed in MTGOX's approach (yubikey is cool), and wanted to continue to support one of the first exchanges. Now it seems BTC's are stuck in MTGOX. So am I hooped? Is there anyway to withdraw these coins?

Is this related to super bowl or something, or has it finally shed all the FUD that was thrown upon it?

Does anyone know of a site, or sites that summarize *all* altcoins, and breaks down their history, mkt cap, total coins in circulation, % premined (if any), % mined in early days, and basically summarizes their legitimacy? Something like an altcoin investment site, or "motley fool" for altcoins would be invaluable in this community imho.
