2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Database corrupt on re-start [Was: Bitcoin-qt cannot read the database, closing] on: January 04, 2018, 06:23:38 PM
@benjamin07

Sorry to re-activate an ancient thread.  Can you tell me more info about the Xeon processor?  I'm running a Xeon Nehalem x5570 2.93 GHz.  Quad core with hyperthreading.  48 GBytes of mainboard memory.  Windows 10, 64-bit, version 1511.  I'm using the 32-bit implementation of QT, version bitcoin-0.15.1.

Clean, first-time installation.  Was downloading the blockchain from scratch.  Had to temporarily shut down QT after three days.  Clean shut down.  This morning, tried to restart QT and got the corrupt database message.

Currently running "chkdsk /f/r" on the drive.  Cannot access the debug.log file until this is done.

For what it's worth, an obscure or unknown Xeon errata, not checked-for by the QT software, could explain a lot of my QT issues.
3  Economy / Exchanges / CoinBase has suspended me from buying bitcoin for 50 days on: October 25, 2017, 11:30:36 PM
I was using a debit card to buy bitcoin on CoinBase.  I've been doing this on and off for many months.  Earlier this week, CoinBase imposed a 50-day suspension on my bitcoin purchases.  Note that this is a time-delay suspension.  Unrelated to the normal CoinBase caps.  At present, I have used less than 50% of all my buy/sell limits (as reported by CoinBase).  I've been in touch with customer service, but they will not tell me the reason this suspension is/was imposed, and they will not explain how to get out of it.  I've been told that it MIGHT be removed if I provide more personal info.

From my perspective, CoinBase is interfering with (my) normal business for no good reason, in an effort to extort additional personal information from me.  No different from Wells Fargo or JP Morgan.  Time to move-on, I think.  I cannot post photos yet.  If anyone wants to see the screen caps, then send me a PM.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Will an Antminer S7 still run if I remove a hash board? on: October 20, 2017, 02:38:50 AM
I had a heatsink fall off of one chip on an S7 hash board.  The S7 has three hash boards.  Can I simply power down...remove the board...and power back up again?  Will the controller understand that one board has been (temporarily) removed, and continue to mine using the two remaining boards?

Yeah, it's a bit of a dumb question.  But an S7 is still worth over $400.00 as I write this, and I really don't want to "let the smoke out".

Thanks!
5  Economy / Service Discussion / My Slushpool Account Hacked - External hack, or inside job? on: July 05, 2017, 06:43:22 AM
Not sure where to post this.  Tried to search for "Slushpool" but the built-in search is temporarily disabled.

I had a slushpool mining account.  Originally opened it several years ago at "mining.bitcoin.cz" and carried it over into "www.slushpool.com".

I have never withdrawn BtC from this account.  I have never logged in from an unsecure computer.

I went to bed late on 3-July-2017...about 11:00 PM on US PST.  This is UTC-8 time zone.  Next morning on 4-July-2017 I could not login to my account.  I contacted slushpool, using their ticket system.  The slushpool customer support tells me that my account was hacked, and that all my coins are stolen.

They told me the coins are stolen.  They gave me a wallet address for the coins, and an IP address for the login.  The IP address goes to a VPN server in Budapest, Hungary.

They will not tell me the time of the hack/transfer.  They will not tell me the exact amount of the transfer.  They told me that my BitCoin was stolen.  They will not tell me if my Zcoin was stolen.  They will not tell me the email address of the hacker (entered into my account, to prevent the "reset password" link from working).

Slushpool should have a record of the thief login (including time and date stamp) the email address change (including time and date stamp) and the password change (including time and date stamp).  They will not tell me any of this info.  Last message I got from them was over 8 hours ago.  They are not talking to me now.

Also, slushpool will not return my account to me.  I have asked them to reset my password, and send a new password to me.  They will not do so.  So the thief gets to take all of my money and keep my account also?

Is anyone else having problems with slushpool?  Is it just me, or have many small account been hacked?  Also...how was the hack done?  Slushpool is telling me nothing at all.  Does anyone have info?
6  Other / Beginners & Help / RPCminer-cuda for Windows XP Pro on: June 20, 2011, 01:14:43 AM
I'm a noob, and cannot post to the threads where the big dogs romp.  So, I'm posting here instead.

I'm trying to run the Windows version of RPCminer-cuda having date code 20110227.  It's failing to run, and is giving me error messages that look like one of two things.  I think that either I have the wrong version of C++ redistributable, or the wrong version of Microsoft .NET framework.  (I don't actually know if RPC miner uses Microsoft .NET, but I saw a post that seemed to say that I needed .NET.)

Does anyone happen to know which C++ redistributable I need for the 20110227 version of RPCminer-cuda?

Does anyone know if I need the .NET framework loaded, and if so, which version I need?

Thanks.

7  Other / Beginners & Help / Home theater device with Nvidia ION2010 GPU on: June 17, 2011, 05:17:55 PM
Has anyone investigated the economics of using an inexpensive home theater
motherboard with built-in Nvidia ION2010 GPU for mining?  Frys has an Asus
board, with Intel D525 atom processor and Nvidia GPU included, for less than
$200.00 USD.

http://www.frys.com/product/6348451?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Seems as though I can buy 4-6 of these boards, plus memory, for about the
same cost as a normal mining rig.

I have not done the power use calculations yet.  I'm planning to visit Frys
this weekend, and will obtain the TDP numbers.

Thanks!
