I've moved to a place where all bills are inclusive, including electricity.
But I have no internet except for a 3.5G HDSPA dongle. Speed is pretty good but max bandwidth per day is 250meg and it still costs me £2 a day to run.
I can go to Starbucks or other free Wi-Fi zones to do big downloading if necessary (e.g. the blockchain) but otherwise I'm restricted.
(1) Can I mine?
(2) Is it worth it? What would you suggest for trying to get my return on investment a.s.a.p but still not spend too much?
thanks

Bitcoin is so low now, look 50% gain in a matter of days. I am almost tempted to start trading it. It's only because it tanked so badly that this is the case. Anyone else thinking along these lines?

I bought it in at 5. Annoyed to see it at $2.50.
This tells me one thing. It is going to go down till it reaches its usable value.
Given that hardly anyone trades in it, I see it plumetting all the way to a matter of cents. It won't even be worth a buck.
Might sell out my tiny holding tonight. Or use it to buy something - anyone got any ideas where I can splurge it on something actually useful?

If it's a correction then it shouldn't be happening so slowly.
I thought the price stabilized at $5 and I bought in. Now I'm considering selling up, this is ridiculous.
I've seen many a market correction, but this gradual slide doesn't make any sense. Will it slide all the way down to 1 cent?

Serious cannabis growers will steal electricity rather than pay for it.
So I'm wondering if criminal gangs have started to do this and mine bitcoins yet? I imagine that bitcoins require a larger initial capital outlay but what about the yield per square foot as it seems that apart from this capital outlay the only other limiting factor is space or maybe heat or noise.
I'm just curious as to why we haven't heard of criminal gangs moving in yet. I guess they don't need to be close to market so maybe they are already operating but in developing countries?

I used to be bearish on bitcoins.
Too many hoarders.
Too many geeks who don't have any idea how to promote it properly.
Too many misconceptions by Joe Public of the benefits.
etc.
etc.
But you know what? It's still here. The market hasn't collapsed. The currency is working according to demand and supply just like any other currency/commodity.
The price has now settled down nicely. I'm not a technical analysis man except on very short timescales on highly liquid things (which bitcoin is not, yet) but even technical analysts would see that it is at a key support level.
Fundamentally (not technically), I think this currency will slowly go up. It's a long term play, nobody is going to get rich quick. But I think at this time when the economy is going down the pan, gold/silver are not invulnerable then I think bitcoins are a great place to put some money.
I've bought 15 bitcoins. If and when my hunches are confirmed and it starts to rise I plan to pyramid and buy more.
Yes, there are still naysayers, but I realised this. It doesn't matter what naysayers say, the fundamentals will play out, regardless. As bitcoin climbs and the public are forced to see the success of it, then demand for it will increase and the price will go up.
The only thing that could stand in its way is government legislation. But I think bitcoin is a bit like drugs. You can outlaw them but you can't stop people using them.

When the dominoes start to fall in Europe and spread to major world markets, the big one, the depression, I predict this is when many people will suddenly flock to BTC and there will be a huge spike and higher closes each day for a week.
Even precious metals are not immune to the depression as holding will be liquidated, demand for industrial use diminishes etc.
Bitcoin has none of these problems. As the stock market closes lower each day, people will panic to find somewhere where they can stash their money. Bitcoins will be one such area.
Due to the limited size of the market, the price spike will be incredible.
Mark my words, it's coming, some time in 2012.

Haven't been here in 2 weeks. I was previously called a troll for being a bear. Now this place is full of bears!
What happened?
The reason I checked in was because I hadn't checked the price for over a week and was shocked to see it at $10, especially with all the economic woes and everyone expecting us to be heading for a double dip.
Did something happen? Why the sudden turn in sentiment? Are the hoarders now cashing in some profits out of fear that they might end up with nothing? Or was there some cataclysmic event that I missed???
