3  Other / Off-topic / Netbank bug and response from CBA on: August 28, 2013, 04:28:14 AM
been meaning to send this to CBA for a while...

For the web developer: There is a bug that's preventing Delete (X) to work under "My inbox" on the home page. When the button is clicked, the server is returning "Sorry! For security reasons you're unable to use the Back, Forward and Refresh buttons in your browser." instead of whatever JSON response the Delete button is expecting, hence the item doesn't get deleted.

their reponse (my emphasis)...

Dear Ian,

My name is Alyssa and I am your Online Specialist for today. Thank you for your email enquiry regarding deleting your inbox messages.

Ian, I am sincerely sorry to hear that you are experiencing technical issues when attempting to access our NetBank Website to delete these messages.

I have contacted the NetBank Technical Team on your behalf and they have confirmed with me currently there are no known issues.

However in saying this, they have advised me NetBank often requires using a troubleshooting technique in order to best find a resolution to the technical issue you are experiencing.

What I can suggest for you to do is to first, reboot your modem and clear the cookies, cache and temporary internet files on your browser.

A guide on how you can do this on the most commonly used browsers can be found here: askcba1.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1057

Also I kindly ask for you to login directly to NetBank either via Commbank.com.au or netbank.com.au. Please do not use your Favourites or Bookmarks to access NetBank.

Please also complete an optimisation check on your computer to ensure that your operating system and the browser are compatible with NetBank:

my.commbank.com.au/NetBank/UserCompatibility/SystemCompatibilityAdvisor.aspx

If you continue to experience technical difficulties, please contact the NetBank Helpdesk directly at your earliest convenience on 13 2221, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, where a specialist will then complete trouble shooting with you to improve your NetBank experience.

Although I may not have been able to assist you, I do hope the above information I have provided you will assist you to resolve your enquiry. If you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to reply to my email.

I have lodged your feedback and dissatisfaction under reference CF-xxxxxxxx. Please note that no further action will be taken, this is for reference purposes only.

It has been a pleasure assisting you Ian and I wish you all the very best with your future endeavours.

Sincerely,

Alyssa

so i typed up a reply...

Hi Alyssa,

You say there are "no known issues" but I'm trying to make this issue known Smiley

It has nothing to do with cookies or cache - My primary browser is Chrome, however I just opened a completely fresh instance of Firefox, which I've never opened Netbank in before, and it has the same problem.

It's also not a router/modem issue, as this affects both home and work accounts and everywhere else I've used Netbank over the past 12 months.

If you can forward this to technical staff, they may reproduce the issue by using  Chrome's Document Inspector, and specifically the "Network" tab. Open the network tab while on the Netbank home page, and click Delete (X), there will be two connections made to Netbank's servers, returning the "Sorry! For security reasons..." page, instead of whatever response the "Delete (X)" link is supposed to connect to.

As a web dev, I would expect the server to return some kind of JSON response or equivalent.

Thanks,
Ian

...but their reply system is bung and always results in...

Sorry!

The page you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable.

Please try again later.

so i can't even submit bugs properly because their contact system is buggy

tl;dr version:

me: you have a bug
cba: no we don't
me: yes you do, here's how to reproduce it
cba: talk to the hand

4  Other / Off-topic / Bootstrap or Foundation? on: August 09, 2013, 04:00:16 AM

5  Bitcoin / Project Development / [bounty 1 btc] Looking for tiny article / mini-tutorial writer (CLOSED) on: August 09, 2013, 03:57:46 AM
hi,

i would like to find someone capable of writing a step-by-step "for dummies"  instructional article on how to create a signed message in various bitcoin clients.

it should cover at least these two: qt, blockchain... but might also contain instructions for electrum, multibit, others (whichever ones out of those it's even *possible* to sign a message with).

thanks

edit: updated requirements and bounty

edit 2: found someone to work with on this.

9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / New 'blocks' folder... duplicate files? on: March 22, 2013, 07:06:32 AM
i've just done a duplicate check of my hdd and realised that the files in the 'blocks' subfolder of my bitcoin data directory are exact duplicates of files in the main data directory itself.

is it safe to delete 1 copy of each? if so, should i delete the ones in the main data dir, or delete the ones in the 'blocks' folder?

"Bitcoin tops its previous all-time high of $31.91 and in doing so it proves to be quite a resilient virtual currency. To the supporters of Bitcoin this does not come as a surprise, since we have seen the likes of WordPress, Reddit and Mega embrace it. Recently Namecheap also confirmed that they will start accepting bitcoins. The new record price was reached on the same day that Mt. Gox, the world's largest Bitcoin exchange, reached an agreement with CoinLab to manage the exchange's operations in the U.S. and Canada."

12  Bitcoin / Armory / Convert satoshi wallet.dat to amory X1Y2Z3.wallet on: February 21, 2013, 12:52:56 AM
sorry i missed the memo, is there an easy conversion tool for importing old wallet.dat files into armory?

the only way i know of currently is dumping keys with pywallet and then importing, but this seems like a pain especially with a very large wallet.

18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / WeUseCoins - What would you include/exclude in a 2013 remake? on: February 01, 2013, 12:03:30 PM
pretty much the most widely-viewed bitcoin video of all time resides on http://weusecoins.com

most of us have seen it, and it really gets top marks.

however, the video there is over a year old so I'm curious to know, what would YOU do differently, if you were making that video now in 2013?

...or do you think it is still as relevant today as it was in 2011?

personally, in 2013 i'd leave off the alpaca sock reference, as that fad seems to have aged.

...and i'd update the "we accept bitcoins" noticeboard to include imagery from sites like Wordpress.

also, i wouldn't use the phrase "no fees" anywhere... i might write "low fees".

edit: wow, it's actually almost 2 years old! time flies.

As it turns out, Forex traders are a creative bunch and don't like being limited to trading the currency pairs available at the moment. Some time ago, a developer named Satoshi Nakamoto decided to create a decentralized, completely digital currency. As a result of his hard work, now there is a significant group of traders that have been successfully trading this currency right under our noses for the past few years. The currency and open source software used for trading are both called Bitcoin.

it's interesting seeing rates written from a Forex trader's perspective:

Initially, the Bitcoin was priced at 1,309.03 BTC per dollar, and now, four years later, the price is about 0.070771408 BTC per dollar
