22  Local / Off-Topic (Italiano) / [non-importante]: Micronazione & secessione individuale on: November 14, 2013, 08:14:31 PM

24  Economy / Securities / [A Bet On The Farm?]: Galt's Gulch Chile on: October 10, 2013, 02:10:40 AM
Hi, maybe this project by Simon Black of sovereignman.com about a libertarian community in Chile endowed with a profitable biological farm (already operating) could be liked by many here at least as an investment and maybe more: www.galtsgulchchile.com

So this is just to see if there is enough interest here to list a security for people who want a stake in it. Apart from profit and any other returns-sharing investors may acquire a right to use the property for an holiday (if a way to manage the time-sharing is agreed and realized).

I am not advocating that the issuer should be me. Anyone trustable and capable enough can list this share. I posted this just since I'd like to invest there but I lack enough cash for a whole share.

A problem is that to acquire a share of property there a minimum of about $50K are currently required (see table below), so if that amount is not reached nothing would come out of it. In this case the issuer should just return to the investors their funds at an established date.

I post below the last newsletter I received from them. Check their websit for more info, and feel free to comment and develop this idea as you deem best.

Galt's Gulch Chile
October Newsletter

Hello Galt's Gulchers,

So many things have been happening here in Chile in the past few weeks. Our property has developed by leaps and bounds. We're excited to share with you updates about our farmers program, recent developments with our growing team, the finalization of our pre-sale phase and our first ever Spring Celebration. Considering how much we have to announce, we hope that you'll stick with us through out the entirety of this newsletter.

PRE-SALE LOT PROGRAM - CLOSING SOON
Response to Galt's Gulch Chile has been tremendous. In our Founders phase two and our Pre-Sale phase, we allocated a certain number of lots and available memberships...and the Founders phase two in the residential areas of GGC and the Pre-Sale phase are now coming to a close this week.

After much discussion, our managing partner has agreed to extend these pre-sale prices until Wednesday, October 16, 2013, as a courtesy to those that are interested in taking advantage of these remarkable prices.

This is the last chance to get these incredible prices for some of the most pristine self-sustaining property in all of Central Chile. GGC sits in a natural setting with fertile soil, pure fresh water sources, mountain hiking trails, ranches and organic and bio-dynamic farming.  Our residents enjoy a natural landscape with a pristine environment surrounded and protected by 5,000 foot mountain peaks.  The climate and water in Galt's Gulch is ideal for growing items similar to southern California.  Avocados, pomegranate, lemon, orange, key lime, almond, chestnut, aloe vera, bay leaves, boldo, grapefruit, persimmon, grapes, even wild blackberries are all present in GGC, today.

If you want to lock in your purchase at these prices, contact your account manager, or email sales@galtsgulchchile.com so that an account manager can help you through the process. To learn more on the program, visit the Pre-Sale Lot section of our website.

The pricing for our Pre-Sale Lot Program is as follows:

1.25-acre lots
  Pre-Sale Lot Program - $48,500
(20% discount with physical gold purchase)
  1st Phase pricing - $75,000

2.5-acre lots
  Pre-Sale Lot Program - $92,500
(20% discount with physical gold purchase)
  1st Phase pricing - $128,500

(20% discount with physical gold purchase)
  1st Phase pricing - $195,000

FOUNDERS CLUB - FARM PROGRAM

We are very excited to introduce our newest program at GGC, the Founders Club farm ownership program. This is a remarkable way to diversify and protect your family's health and wealth and to become a Founder of Galt's Gulch Chile's 250 acre organic working farm. The GGC working farm has been operating for the last three years without the use of chemicals and is currently in process of being certified as organic.

The current crops of the organic farm consist of various avocado varieties, various lemon varieties and also key limes.  The lemon crops comprise the largest portion of the farm, on over 65 hectares (161 acres), along with approximately 1,200 key lime trees and 400 avocado trees.  75 acres of the farm are being cleared at the present time, where dozens of new organic, non-GMO, fruits, vegetables, nuts, herbs and spices are soon to be planted.

The existing varieties of lemon trees of the farm are known to produce high yields and are in high demand in the marketplace.  The Fina 49 variety (15 hectares), when managed properly, is known to yield up to 100 tons per hectare annually.  The Eureka variety (50 hectares) is one of the most popular varieties of lemon around the world, with yields ranging from 90 tons per hectare annually to over 120 tons per hectare annually when well managed.  The GGC farming team intends to implement the absolute best methods in realizing the highest and most sustainable yields possible, via the use of cutting edge water filtration and treatment, organic composts, proper crop placement and rotation and utilization of our thriving bee colonies for improved pollination at the appropriate times of the years, among other things.

The farm is presently selling approximately 20,000,000 lemons annually to local pickers and wholesalers, equating to annual production levels of slightly over 55 tons per hectare. GGC estimates these figures to double in the next 1-2 years, falling in line with known output amounts of lemon orchards in Chile and worldwide for the types of lemons presently at the GGC farm.

GGC is now looking into all international export markets, as well as the best local and Chilean markets, in order to obtain top pricing for the high quality organic lemons that are currently being grown at the farm, to take advantage of the increased market prices that are typical for the winter months in the Northern Hemisphere from December to March...and to of course maintain top dollar for the GGC organic, non-GMO, produce for generations to come.

In additional to the mature, and nearly mature, crops, throughout the GGC farm, there are several existing residential structures soon to be renovated and furnished...for use in the GGC Guest Hacienda program.  The Guest Haciendas at GGC are on-site nightly accommodations for clients and guests who are in town to visit us and tour the property.  The Guest Haciendas will have full maid service, room service and most all luxuries one would find at top caliber hotels, but with the added pleasure of being able to experience all that goes along with living at GGC. This is an added bonus to those who become owners of the farm, as the Guest Haciendas, and income thereof, are part of the property purchase in the farm program.

Pricing for the Founders Club farm program is as follows:

Share               Total Due                Loan Payback     Ownership Interest
At Signing (USD)           To Founder            In GGC Farm        .

1                        $67,500                  $33,750                    .65%
2                        $130,000                $70,000                    1.3%
5                        $312,500                $187,500                  3.25%
10                      $575,000                $400,000                   6.5%

Continuing on with the popular structure of the second round of the Founders Club in the residential areas of GGC, we have built in a three-year payback on a portion of the farm program, as is illustrated in the chart above. This chart, along with other helpful information about this program, will soon be available under our Founder's Club section of our website for your convenience.

Above and beyond the three-year payback on part of the total amount due at signing, the Founders of the farm program also enjoy numerous other benefits of becoming Founders of the GGC farm, including a share of the monthly net profits from the sale of the organic produce, as well as a share of the monthly net profits from the Guest Hacienda rental program.  Each Founder's share in the profits is, of course, based on the amount that each Founder elects to purchase.  The number of each ownership package is limited, so inquire with your account manager as to which ones are still available.

Upon becoming a Founder of the GGC farm, Founders will enjoy all of the benefits of ownership, but without the work involved in realizing them.  The GGC teams operate and manage the farm at the present time and will continue to do so, but all Founders of the farm are more than welcome to contribute value to the farm by participating in ways that benefit the farm as a whole.  This is not required of course, but is always welcomed in order to discuss and possibly implement ideas from Founders for the betterment of the farm.

Ask yourself, are you willing to wait on this investment?

SPRING CELEBRATION

We are excited to announce the arrival of our Spring Celebration. We are inviting all soon-to-be Galt's Gulch residents and guests to join us for a celebration of the community. This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet our staff and some of future neighbors. The Spring Celebration will be held from Oct. 30 through Nov. 4, 2013.

How the Bitcoin 1% manipulate the currency, deceive its user community, and make its future uncertain
From: http://blog.p2pfoundation.net/how-the-bitcoin-1-manipulate-the-currency-deceive-its-user-community-and-make-its-future-uncertain/2013/06/30
Excerpted from Stanislav Datskovskiy:

” One of the world’s greatest cryptographers, Adi Shamir, published the following analysis:

- “We discovered that almost all these large transactions were the descendants of a single large transaction involving 90,000 Bitcoins which took place on November 8th 2010, and that the subgraph of these transactions contains many strange looking chains and fork-merge structures, in which a large balance is either transferred within a few hours through hundreds of temporary intermediate accounts, or split into many small amounts which are sent to different accounts only in order to be recombined shortly afterwards into essentially the same amount in a new account.” (source: Dorit Ron and Adi Shamir, Quantitative Analysis of the Full Bitcoin Transaction Graph.”

Most bitcoins are, in fact, in the hands of a very few people. Are you surprised? I’m not.

We also learn that, of the approximately 9 million bitcoins which currently exist, less than 2 million actually circulate – that is, change hands with any appreciable frequency:

- “It is remarkable that 97% of all owners had fewer than 10 transactions each, while 75 owners use the network very often and are affiliated with at least 5,000 transactions.”

And it would appear that most of the non-circulating coins are in the hands of a very small number of people – who, one may reasonably suspect, were involved from with building and propagandising Bitcoin from its very beginning. So, who are the lords of Bitcoin?

The most damning fact revealed in the paper is not the extreme top-heaviness of the Bitcoin ownership pyramid, but rather the elaborate lengths to which the hoarders went in order to conceal their existence from “rank and file” users. Think of it! Hundreds of thousands of shill accounts, with vast rivers of wealth moving back and forth – for one purpose only: to deceive. None of it was done by accident.

Bitcoin turns out to be something other than the fully-decentralized, unkillable network which so many imagined it to be.

30  Other / Politics & Society / Government of Kenya attacks self-help program in Mombasa slums on: June 16, 2013, 09:32:07 AM
From Beyond Money by Thomas H. Greco:
http://beyondmoney.net/2013/06/15/government-of-kenya-attacks-self-help-program-in-mombasa-slums/

In an unbelievably heavy handed move, the Government of Kenya last week arrested an American aid worker and five local micro-entrepreneurs for operating a complementary exchange system in a poor suburb of Mombasa.

The recently launched Bangla-Pesa voucher system is intended to provide additional liquidity that makes it possible for unmet needs of local residents to be satisfied out of their own excess productive capacity. In just two weeks of operation, the amount of goods and services traded among the members of the Bangla-Pesa network increased substantially. Now, the program is shut down and six people are facing seven years in prison.  Why? Is this simply a case of ignorance on the part of government officials, or an attempt to keep poor people poor and dependent upon inadequate or even exploitative systems that are controlled by bankers and politicians ? The answer to that will become clear as this case develops. Your help is needed to get this matter resolved in favor of freedom, justice, and rationality. Here is the official appeal from American aid worker Will Ruddick.

Dear Friends, Family and Supporters,

End Africa’s dependence on Aid through Complementary Currencies. Eradicate poverty and keep six people from seven years in prison.

Click here to support this program and watch our videos.

Bangla-Pesa, a complementary currency program in one of Kenya’s poorest slums, needs your help. This innovative program gave participants the ability to create their own means of exchange so micro-business owners could trade what they have for what they need. In two weeks, the program already showed great success. But the Central Bank of Kenya has deemed the program illegal and is pursuing a legal battle against its organizers, despite enthusiastic community support.

These six people face charges that could put them in prison for as much as seven years:
·         Alfred Sigo a youth activist.
·         Emma Onyango a grandmother and community business owner.
·         Rose Oloo a grandmother and community business owner.
·         Paul Mwololo a grandfather and community business owner.
·         Caroline Dama a mother and volunteer.
·         Will Ruddick a new father and program founder.
We need help raising funds for legal fees and to bring this program back to life so it can help people throughout Africa in expanded form via mobile phones.
Our goal is to raise 47,000 Euros over the next 47 days.

Spread the word!
Sincerely,

31  Other / Politics & Society / Digital Currency Site Founder Arrested On Money-Laundering Charges on: May 28, 2013, 10:53:11 AM
(The noose is tightening):

From The Business insider:
http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/businessinsider/~3/pecXXkaH0Rs/liberty-reserve-digital-currency-site-founder-arrested-2013-5

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (AP) — The founder of the Liberty Reserve digital currency business has been arrested in Spain on money-laundering charges, Costa Rican authorities said.

Officials in the Central American nation said in a statement that Arthur Budovsky was detained as part of an investigation that also involved U.S. authorities.

Police raided three homes and five businesses linked to the Costa Rica-based Liberty Reserve and seized papers and digital documents that will be turned over to U.S. authorities, the statement said. A Russian citizen was also arrested in the case in Costa Rica on Friday and will be extradited to the U.S., it said.

Budovsky, a naturalized Costa Rican citizen, was detained Friday. He had renounced his U.S. citizenship and become a resident and citizen of Costa Rica, Costa Rican authorities said.

Liberty Reserve is a company that allows users to apply for an account through the Internet by simply supplying a valid email address. Once a person signs up for an account, Liberty Reserve gives them a user name and an account number and they can start transferring money around the world, Costa Rican officials said.

They said the company shut its offices in Costa Rica in 2011. The website, however, had continued to operate, although it was offline Monday.

According to Costa Rica police, Budovsky was sentenced in 2007 to five years' probation after pleading guilty in a New York court to charges he operated an illegal financial services business similar to Liberty Reserve.

U.S. authorities didn't return phone messages from The Associated Press seeking comment Monday, which was the Memorial Day holiday in the United States.

Liberty Reserve's origins are obscure, but it had grown into one of the criminal underworld's best known electronic currency systems, used by hackers the world over to discreetly move large sums of money across borders, experts say.

Liberty Reserve, which conducted its transactions in dollars, euros and rubles, operates as an anonymous, no-questions-asked alternative to the global banking system, said Aditya Sood, a computer science doctoral candidate at Michigan State University who has studied the electronic currency.

"You don't need to provide your full details, or personal information, or things like that," he said in a telephone interview. "There's no way to trace an account. That's the beauty of the system."

Offshore currency centers, generally set up in places beyond the reach of U.S. or European law enforcement, can serve as middlemen between criminals and the mainstream financial world, brokering transactions that turn illegally obtained money into seemingly legitimate cash.

Sood said that despite prominent disclaimers warning against money laundering, the currency centers typically have little in the way of serious oversight.

"They don't care," he said. "They have no idea where the money is coming from or where the money is going. That's how they designed the model."

Liberty Reserve appears to have played an important role in laundering the proceeds from the recent theft of some $45 million from two Middle Eastern banks, according to legal documents made public by U.S. authorities earlier this month.

The complaint against one of the Dominican Republic gang members allegedly involved in the theft states that thousands of dollars' worth of stolen cash was deposited into two Liberty Reserve accounts via currency centers based in Siberia and Singapore.

The loss of Liberty Reserve has the potential to cause a "major upheaval" in the cybercrime economy, said investigative journalist-turned-security researcher Brian Krebbs, who added in a blog post that hackers writing in underground forums were already buzzing with concern over frozen funds.

32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [Must read] Could an Inside Sneak Attack on Bitcoin Destroy It? on: May 23, 2013, 06:26:07 PM
From http://www.theburningplatform.com/?p=54678
By Paul Rosenberg, FreemansPerspective.com

This is important.
I’ve been warning about an outside attack on Bitcoin for some time, but the biggest threat may come from inside: from people who profess to love Bitcoin.

The people I’m talking about don’t love Bitcoin itself, and they don’t love the freedom it brings, no matter what they say. Instead they love the money they hope to make by becoming the new techno-riche: successors to Zuckerberg, Gates and the rest. (Yes, that’s an unfair thing for me to say, but I’d also be willing to bet large on it.)

The people I refer to are a neo-plutocracy — insiders who wish to institutionalise Bitcoin, making billions for themselves while turning it into just another version of PayPal.
One long-time bitcoiner has been warning for some time that this group controls the Bitcoin Foundation. He describes them as “regulatory statists.” He has analyzed their backtalks since their beginning and has been telling anyone who would listen that they wished to politically co-opt the Bitcoin market.

At last weekend’s Bitcoin conference, he was proved correct.
Robert Wenzel of economicpolicyjournal.com reported this, directly from the conference:
The most important vibe I am picking up at the event is that there are many money players who want to get Bitcoin up and running and are willing to play by government rules, that is, register all accounts they open and take down the name, DOB and social security number of Bitcoin buyers and sellers… Many of these players argue that it is impossible to battle the government, [one developer] told me that “It is a period to build the baby and not send it to war.”
No sooner than that passed my screen, I got an article entitled Winklevoss twins on Bitcoin: Time to work with the Feds. The article quotes Cameron Winklevoss (one of the Facebook twins) saying this at the conference:
I don’t think anyone wants a fight — I think everyone here wants to build Bitcoin, to work with regulators, cooperation is really the way forward.
Let’s be clear about this:
Bitcoin is a new thing. If it is forced into the old mold of politics, regulation and control, it will become just another tool of an oligarchy. And the prospective Bitcoin oligarchy are precisely those people who wish to shove Bitcoin, against its nature, into the same old statist, plutocratic mold. The result would be a few dozen insiders getting very rich and leaving the rest of us back where we started.

Regardless of the new plutocracy’s creative justifications and their fear-based scenarios, Bitcoin will be neutered and co-opted by governments and bankers if they get their way.
This is the largest single threat facing Bitcoin at the present time. Fear and greed work, and corruption follows with them.

I am not alone in this, by the way. Bitcoin expert Mike Gogulski has come to the same conclusion, writing “the Bitcoin Foundation is TOXIC and must dissolve.”
An unnamed “old radical” warned about precisely this in 2012.

The inside threat to Bitcoin is real, and was on open display over this past weekend.
If bitcoiners are serious about human liberty — as opposed to the same old crap in a new wrapper — they must turn hard against this neo-Plutocracy and their promises of an easy way out. Nothing great comes easy, and important things are more often killed by their supposed friends than by their enemies.

I will close with a comment Martin Luther once made to a young assistant who was asking God to save them from their enemies. Please take it to heart:
We can handle our enemies. God save us from our friends.

33  Economy / Currency exchange / Cannot withdraw anything from Mtgox >:( on: May 15, 2013, 04:13:41 PM
I have a verified account there, and yesterday I inserted my bank details to sell some coins.
Now I cannot find a way (or even a link) to request a withdraw either of USD or BTC.
Any suggestion?
Thanks

35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Trying to mine LTC: s.t very wrong on: May 06, 2013, 03:52:17 PM
I tried to mine LTC using a rig with a 5870 and two 5830 that always mined fine BTC (and TRC and PPC too).

I tried both with guiminer-scrypt_win32 v0.03 and cgminer v.2.11.3 with stock clocks and volt settings.
My problem is that they report an output around 18 KHs/s per card, which seems 10-20 times less than expected.
Even the pool (Coinotron) reports the same, and an "Estimated coins/day =  0.106 LTC" (!)
Any idea?

P.S. The string I used is this:
cgminer -o stratum+tcp://coinotron.com:3334 -u NAME -p PASS --scrypt -I 7,9,9 --thread-concurrency 7168,6200,6200 -g 1 -w 256 --auto-fan --temp-target 70 --temp-overheat 75 --auto-gpu --gpu-engine 500-850,500-820,500-820

But even just this gives the same result:
cgminer -o stratum+tcp://coinotron.com:3334 -u NAME -p PASS --scrypt
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / minimalist settings for Litecoin mining? on: April 27, 2013, 03:49:30 PM
I have a couple of rigs with assorted Radeons 58XX, and I'd like to move them to LTC mining.

My problem is that my cards get way too hot for my taste when mining LTC (since I am used to undervolted BTC mining with memory @300 or less), so I am asking for some proven undervolt/underclock settings suitable for LTC mining to try to keep the cards below 80°C.

Imagine you’re buying socks or more likely, since this is bitcoin, assault rifles stuffed with heroin. On the checkout webpage, the “buy” button could use the “bitcoin:” link, which would automatically pop open your bitcoin wallet, which might reside in an external application, on another website, or even in your browser itself. In any event, it would make paying with bitcoin dead easy and absolutely universal.

Maybe someone would like to leave a comment about the deflation scare argument by this "professor of economics":

edit: but on a second thought, is a waste of time: if he feels smarter believing in Santa Claus/politics, and the same do his followers, it's hopeless.
