1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How do I know if my Metamask wallet was emptied? on: March 29, 2024, 02:58:34 AM
A few days back there was a phishing scam faking an email from BlockFi. I fell for it and signed into my Metamask for them.

Only problem is that it has been awhile since I remember checking on those assets and so I don't know if they're gone because the wallet was emptied or if I transferred them myself. Under 'Activity' it gives a 2022 date for coins being transferred out. That would be me, not them.

Can a crypto robbery like this be done without it showing up on Etherscan? I'm just confused at this point. Maybe I was drained of those assets or maybe I just don't remember when/where I emptied them out a year or two ago.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Exchanges restricting Canadian users based in Ontario on: December 08, 2021, 08:43:59 PM
Apologies if this did not make it to the right board, mods move it if necessary.

So does anybody have details about crypto restrictions in Ontario (Canada)? It looks like restriction to a bunch of the exchanges will start at the end of December. Is this just restricting access based on IP location or are the exchanges actively going through KYC IDs to determine who actually resides in Ontario?
3  Economy / Trading Discussion / FTX or Binance? on: November 01, 2021, 10:01:14 PM
So I've migrated to FTX basically because my impression is that the counterparty risk is considerably less... ie SBF seems less sketchy than CZ. Not sure if my instincts are right about this, but I am willing to hear any opinions about the matter.

But I have to be honest, I MUCH prefer the Binance trading terminal layout, especially for margin trading. I have yet to do any margin trading on FTX, but it looks like you have to open an entirely new window to see your liquidation price. And what about the Repay feature? How does it work with FTX, do they just automatically repay when the trade hits your Take Profit?
4  Economy / Trading Discussion / The Misbehavior of Markets on: October 17, 2021, 01:50:17 AM
by Benoit Mandelbrot

Anybody read this? More generally how might his insights be incorporated into a quant strategy?
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What's going on with Litecoin (LTC)? on: October 14, 2021, 03:02:59 AM
Active addresses increasing:

Apparently strong hands are accumulating, too. More privacy development happening, too, I was reading. Hearing about institutional interest.

Anybody else watching this one?
6  Economy / Trading Discussion / Bitcoin Futures ETF on: October 11, 2021, 09:29:18 PM

Can anybody with more experience in tradfi explain this:

I am reading that the approval of a Bitcoins Futures ETF - contrary to moonboi hype - could actually slow or reverse any potential upward trajectory that BTC would otherwise have.

Apparently if it trades with a contango then it will be hit by "roll yields". Not sure I understand this, but am interested still.

Or, just generally, how would approval of a Bitcoin ETF affect the crypto market short term?
7  Economy / Trading Discussion / Delta and CVD ideas, especially quantifiable on: October 10, 2021, 06:17:03 AM
After getting Exocharts I'm thinking of ways of utilize the information provided on Delta and CVD (Cumulative Volume Delta), especially since it's offered as a downloadable Excel spreadsheet.

How do you incorporate this information (Delta and CVD) into your trading strategy? Especially interested in quant perspectives on this.
8  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Just thinking, bear with me... on: October 04, 2021, 12:22:59 AM

Not a technologist or a programmer, just an independent trader, so if you can bear with the technological ignorance revealed here, I will try and not be too vague.

Recently I was reading about the transition to a "cashless" society, which of course got me thinking about government surveillance, and then logically about the claims of the Austrian-type of Bitcoin believers. I am not myself in this camp that makes claims about financial sovereignty and sound money, but I do sympathize with libertarianism on an ethical level.

Now if governments do find that they have to clamp down on cryptocurrency it seems to me that they would have to do so at the level of infrastructure and hardware. Around the same time that I was thinking about this, I was also at hard wallets.

It got me thinking that despite being digital and a network, Bitcoin could in some sense, to the extent that it exists outside government controlled/regulated infrastructure, constitute a new form of cash, that is if hard wallet technology can facilitate easy interactions. Is there a sense in which cash might be able to exist in technologically evolved form?

This idea must be out there already, and I am probably just behind in what's going on in hard wallet technology, but it seems to me like that could be the key to cryptocurrency's being a viable alternative to centralized digital currency/social credit/tyranny.

9  Economy / Speculation / Simple question on: October 02, 2021, 11:44:51 PM
Where is the demand going to come for in Q4?

Will retail, sans lockdown money, be able to shovel enough cash into crypto this time?

Otherwise, it seems to me like upward price action will depend on institutional investors.
10  Economy / Economics / Serious fundamental analysis / forecast on: September 11, 2021, 07:53:39 PM

Is there any halfway serious, i.e. insightful, fundamental analysis on Bitcoin and the crypto market?

Even a serious discussion here, but specifically taking into account MACROECONOMIC CONTEXT.

It seems like 90% of what you find online is either A) complacent TradFi or B) delusional libertarianism and Austrian fundamentalism.

Taking nothing for granted, what is a reasonable forecast for Bitcoin by the year's end?
11  Economy / Trading Discussion / exocharts data possibilties / number crunching on: September 07, 2021, 08:54:31 PM
Anybody else here use Exocharts?

There is a feature that allows you to download an MS Excel spreadsheet all of the data from the Footprint Bar Statistics.

I'm eager to figure out what I could possibly do with so much ready-organized data. It would seriously seem like a missed opportunity to do nothing with it.

That being said, statistics and maths are not my forte, not a numbers cruncher or a programmer.

But it's amazing, just looking at columns of neatly organized data: open, high, low, close, OI, OI Delta, Volume, Delta, CVD, POC, H-L

Where do I start as far as incorporating this into a strategy?
12  Economy / Service Discussion / BlockFi on: July 26, 2021, 03:42:49 AM

Anybody else here have crypto on BlockFi?

What is your reading of the situation of their being investigated for their accounts being unregistered securities?

How much should a customer of theirs worry about this?
13  Economy / Service Discussion / Mechanics of Crypto Exchanges on: July 20, 2021, 01:34:43 AM
I want to dive into how crypto exchanges work, specifically regarding: matching, calculations, marks, recovery from downtime etc.

Where can I find this information?
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin and deflation on: June 21, 2021, 11:08:09 PM

Firstly, what you think is more likely as far as the macroeconomic situation: inflation or deflation?

If the latter, will that cause a massive Bitcoin dump to unexpected lows?
15  Economy / Trading Discussion / Tail Hedging Bitcoin? on: June 13, 2021, 03:17:17 AM
Just finishing Mark Spitznagel's book The Dao of Capital right now and thinking about how potential extreme volatility (falling to 20K or below) might make buying out of the money puts an intelligent idea.

Would the more experienced traders here have any thoughts on this?
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What is the real deal on USDT Tether? on: May 30, 2021, 02:02:12 AM
I am increasingly reading highly concerning analyses of Tether, saying that it is has not been audited, could cause crypto markets to crash, etc.

What do we actually know about this situation? Should we be listening to the Cassandras on this one?
17  Economy / Speculation / FUD-slingers saying 20K this weekend... on: May 28, 2021, 10:43:43 PM
I hope this does not overlap too much with other recent threads.

Been seeing market analysis that points to aggressive sellers, then some typical CNBC nonsense, then Scott Minerd on Twitter posts the following: "Crypto investors be warned: be prepared for a volatile holiday weekend."

Looking for your market readings for the next three days.

Is this just FUD for FUDsake, game playing, or are big sellers going to try and dump the price this weekend?
18  Economy / Trading Discussion / Still trading BTC even though actually trading Alts on: May 27, 2021, 04:21:26 PM
Sometimes I think I might as well stick to just trading BTC since most alts are correlated as rise/fall with the big one. And yet sometimes they don't, maybe because of rotation or more fundamental reasons. But just for simple range or band trading, I wonder if it is just best to stick with BTC?
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Benchmark Protocol $MARK on: May 16, 2021, 11:25:38 PM
Really interested in this one. Anyone else? Or any skeptics?
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Current Market Cycle Analysis on: May 16, 2021, 08:15:47 PM
Looking through crypto twitter it seems like their are a lot of useless opinions about/directed at other parties (Musk, maximalists, etc.) and not so much by way of objective analysis of what is actually going on in the market right now.

Any decent analysis out there about what's going on right now, preferably with reference to on chain data?
