4  Economy / Gambling discussion / What online betting company you know gave you a b'day present? on: May 22, 2021, 02:42:17 PM
This is the second year in a row that I'm receiving money in my 1xBet balance as a birthday present. Last year it was around 10$, I managed to turn it to 60$ and lost it all at once. This year I got around 20$, tripled it, and withdrew lol. The funny part is I did not make any deposit since November last year. Kinda nice of them, don't you think? Does a bookmaker you play on do something sort of this apart from free slot spins that you can redeem your winnings (play x game and double your winning in case you win or play z game and get back 50% of your bet in case you lose) only by playing your own money later?

Yea there are a bunch of telegram bots for this but why forum itself cannot have this feature? please provide me with a link to the thread if this was discussed before

1) You receive a notification into your messages page first

2) "Alerts" section on my messages page

3) And something like this

Wouldn't that be helpful?

8  Economy / Gambling discussion / How would you react if your kids had gambling addiction on: April 03, 2021, 11:09:09 AM
I came across an interesting article saying different ingame loot boxes (buying a box without knowing what is inside) psychologically similar to gambling and can develop interest into real gambling. Being a gamer myself, I think this makes a real sense - when you buying a box with random rewards inside you feel like you are playing a separate game inside a game and the feeling quite similar to the one you get when betting on sport and casino games.

Some countries are seriusly discussing weather they will regulate loot box feature in all games. What you think?

So, if the data is not lying, almost 95% of visitors from Russia lost their interest into crypto during the last 12 months despite overall number of crypto enthusiast all over the world almost doubled. And the traffic source chart is clearly showing that the number of Bitcointalk residents has not change compared to the last year, the double in the overall traffic are all new comers.

10  Other / Off-topic / What is your success formula? on: February 25, 2021, 10:36:27 AM
I'm know there might be tons of other threads sounding similar to this, but let's make this one full of positivity and motivational ideas.

So let me know what did it cost to reach to the point of your life where you always wanted to be and if you are still not there what, in your opinion, you should do in order to be in the most successful and fullfilled version of you that you can ever imagine.

I always feel grateful that I had a strong willingness to study in my school years and these basic knowledge often helps me to do well in every day life without of which I would possibly not. But I am not even close to what I want to be. So what, I believe, I have to make a habit is

1. I have to start exercising, at least like 15-20 minutes a day. Especially when your work is about sitting half of a day in front of a computer.
2. I have to normalize my sleep routine. Remember - good sleep is the best meditation.
3. I have to start reading every day at least for half an hour instead of wasting that time for scrolling instagram feed or butt shaking TikTok videos.
4. I have to learn not to take all the work on my shoulders. I'm such a person who tends to feel responsible for solving an issue entirely by himself even if it was supposed to be done collectively.

P.S. The idea of this thread was originally created on another forum. I just want to hear opinions of my fellow bitcointalkers. Peace.
11  Other / Meta / Let's contribute to the forum's future by simply enhancing the post quality on: December 28, 2020, 01:27:08 PM
The thread title was changed from "Can we, forum users, affect the bitcoin price?" to the current.

So, looking at the Bullrun you might think: "how far will it go?", "will it stay at this high price level?", "what exactly is causing the rise?" or "this fast rise will be followed by a fast drop anyway...".

First, let's figure out what exactly does the real impact:

Credits to Google

DEMAND...what is demand?

Credits to Google

A desire to purchase...uhmm

As a simple man, I tend to (most time) invest professionally in stuff that I'm closely familiar enough with and surely this is not a secret formula of investment - no one puts his money in what he doesn't know about. By educating people who have willing to get into crypto but are being skeptical, we could literally affect the price. But to educate someone you have to have someone Smiley So, where does Bitcointalk get traffic from?

Credits to Similarweb

Not talking about the direct traffic, that's the people who are already deeply familiar with BTC and who already own their shares. 39.45% of the total visitors of the forum are coming from the search. Let's analyze them a bit:

Credits to Similarweb

These data are, of course, far not accurate but they might help to see the overall pattern. As you see, most part of the traffic that the forum is getting from Google are people who are interested in mining. However, there are hundreds of keywords related to bitcoin that attract millions of people and these keywords are taken by blogs/magazines who don't give a fuck about the future of crypto (the page shown as an example below does not even have a comment section, it's natural that people will have questions after reading this particular article.). They just paid someone to write the articles, took positions on the search, and monetizing their traffic. For example,

Guess what? This single page has (according to Ahrefs) more visits than the whole Bitcointalk forum.

Credits to Ahrefs

Again, these figures are not accurate, they are only for having an overall pattern. So, what keywords and positions does this "gigantic page" have on search?

Credits to Ahrefs

Oh, these keywords seem to be related to the forum's Mining section. Unfortunately, the section does not have any positions on these keywords.

I can list hundreds of other examples of the keywords that are meant to be leading traffic to Bitcointalk but are taken by other blogs/online magazines/news websites those aim out of these pages are only to monetize or promote affiliate links. Bitcointalk has all the resources to fight for each of these keywords. Google lists your page higher when the page is in-topic, when the domain is aged/authoritative, when other sources are linking to your page, and when people are engaging on this page. We have each and every of those, I think the forum needs more informative threads in form of articles covering questions that are being searched.

So,
 - More informative articles on more different topics = more keywords.
 - More keywords = more traffic.
 - More traffic = more crypto educated people.
 - More educated people = more demand.

What do you think?

The idea of the thread is wholely based on my thoughts and experience. Any idea, including against it is highly appreciated. Thanks and Happy New Year!
12  Other / Meta / Bitcointalk is being used as a backlink source on: December 23, 2020, 09:40:08 AM
I'm not sure if this is an issue that needs to be immediately handled and solved but I thought it is worth creating a thread.

So, there is a service that sells backlinks called Crowdo. Generally saying, they provide backlinks from forums. They have a thread on BHW which is a known forum for webmasters and SEOs. The thread has 185 pages which is above the average on that forum. As their prices were pretty high (forum links are not considered as white hat and are not that effective nowadays as it used to be) I decided to dig a bit.

On their website, I found their so-called deck including all information about them. On the bottom of the 8th page of it, you can see a doc file with the link samples they provide. And btctalk is on the list.

Turns out the comment from @landy5277 was not "organic".

They create fresh profiles for each comment and sell each comment for ranging from $6.95 to $9.95 depending on the package purchased. This, unfortunately, cannot be controlled and does very little or no harm to btctalk, I guess...

What do you think about this?
13  Other / Meta / Pls Add a Price Tracker somewhere on the forum on: December 18, 2020, 07:28:51 AM
Not sure if this was discussed yet and don't know if there is some restriction or kind of an agreement that Bitcointalk cannot have a widget or a tracker tool of crypto prices. I'm personally done with every time opening an extra tab for coinmarketcap and checking the price. Having it on the home page of the forum would help a lot Smiley

14  Economy / Games and rounds / Bitcoin hits 20K milestone any time now! on: December 01, 2020, 01:01:33 PM
I'm in crypto since 2017, yes, relatively a newbie. I witnessed how it blew up the world in Dec 2017 and remember how almost everyone around who even had no knowledge in crypto bought it. I'm proud that I was born in the decade that it was invented and believe that it will only become more and more valuable by time.

So, the purpose of this thread is I want to buy some good pizza to my fellow forum users on the day when bitcoin hits 20K (maybe it will happen after an hour, maybe tomorrow). Just take a screenshot from blockchain or coinmarketcap at the moment when it crosses the line and post it here.

Some mentions:

 - only the first 5 users will be chosen
 - the pizzas will be chosen by the users in range of $15-20
 - I'll directly pay the bill or send you the cost in bitcoins (delivery fee will be included)

This is not a giveaway or something and I don't hodl millions either. I just want to celebrate the event properly. Until that, stay safe.

*if bitcoin won't hit 20K in two weeks, this offer will either be closed or the milestone limit will be changed
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / PayPal finally allowed BTC on: November 13, 2020, 11:55:44 AM
So, here we go..

"The shift to digital forms of currencies is inevitable, bringing with it clear advantages in terms of financial inclusion and access; efficiency, speed and resilience of the payments system; and the ability for governments to disburse funds to citizens quickly." -- Dan Schulman, CEO of Paypal

“The cult of bitcoin makes many claims — that it’s instant, free, scalable, efficient, secure, globally accepted and useful — it is none of those things,” -- Bill Harris, Ex-CEO of Paypal

"Paypal announced the launch of a new service enabling its customers to buy, hold and sell cryptocurrency directly from their PayPal account, and signaled its plans to significantly increase cryptocurrency's utility by making it available as a funding source for purchases at its 26 million merchants worldwide." -- SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 21, 2020

Honestly say, many people are being sceptical with this knowing how strictly PayPal freezes its users' accounts for little reason. I don't know if they will treat crypto accounts differently or not, but imagine getting your accounts frozen for 6 months before they decide to give them back to you or not.

Another thing is what will be the fees? $15 for a $1000 transaction?

And this little rise after 00:00 AM looks like was caused by the announcement.

So, what do you think about this?

Is it possible to get a list of the most merited users list in a given time? I mean what was the list after a month when the merit system was implemented? after six months? on 15 June 2019? etc. Please, let me know if the question was made in the wrong section. Thanks.
