1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Calculating Bitcoin per share of MSTR on: July 28, 2022, 01:42:27 PM
I am trying to establish a baseline of how much bitcoin you buy, by buying a share of MSTR.
I have an IRA and would like to know exactly how much btc per share I am buying by buying MSTR.

I'm opting for MSTR vs GBTC because I have a gut feeling MSTR will not sell their BTC any time soon. I am not going to dump my IRA.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / MSTR and GBTC (Grayscale) Custody in Coinbase? on: July 26, 2022, 09:12:45 PM
If MicroStrategy and Grayscale use Coinbase as a custodian, and Coinbase's policy and agreement with their users is if they are 'bankrupt' client's funds/ assets become Coinbase's in order to pay off debts wouldn't that mean 2 of the biggest publicly traded companies are reliant on Coinbase's ability to not screw up?

But what is so hard about purchasing a ledger/ trezor and just adding a passphrase and custodian your own coins off exchanges?

I ask because I have a Roth IRA and would like the exposure to bitcoin there as well as in my private wallets. For all the NYKNYC people, I'm not closing my Roth Ira to buy bitcoin, and also pay taxes and fees.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / is it possible to just copy and paste the bitcoin code? on: October 07, 2021, 06:05:54 PM
Is it possible to just copy and paste the bitcoin code and run it as your own bitcoin/ crypto without it updating/ syncing to the current blockchain.

If this is possible would this produce the key to the genesis block? I am very curious why you'd see bitcoin spinoffs like BCH have different wallet formats than bitcoin.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Is this a safe Vanity address generator? on: September 13, 2021, 01:26:36 PM
It appears I downloaded it from https://99bitcoins.com/how-to-get-a-custom-bitcoin-address/

vanitygen-0.22-win is the folder name after download.

I've only used it offline and have never had any btc stolen from it but I am genuinely curious if this is a trust vanity address generator.

I saw conflicting things online.
5  Local / 日本語 (Japanese) / ビットコインダストアドレスをシンプルに on: September 12, 2021, 09:19:14 PM
bitcoindustaddress.com

6  Economy / Service Announcements / Bitcoin Dust Address Made Simple on: September 12, 2021, 08:59:58 PM
bitcoindustaddress.com

So I recently decided to make a dust address that would be easily accessible to anyone. I even decided to make the investment of buying the domain name of bitcoindustaddress.com to make it a simple search to get to a bitcoin dust address and diminish of the dust that one may have received.

Hopefully this will pick up traction and will become THE universal bitcoin dust address. I have my doubts though lol.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Passphrase wallet on: September 12, 2021, 04:56:49 PM
Simple question:

If I get my 12 word phrase, what are the odds someone else gets it too? Is it easier to add a pass phrase?

The pass phrase will just make it that much harder to unlock the bitcoin right?
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / GBTC/ other ways of bitcoin exposure for IRA accounts on: September 07, 2021, 07:19:00 PM
So today I bought 1190 shares of GBTC in my Roth IRA. I also own bitcoin but figured since I like BTC so much id increase exposure via my IRA. About 10 minutes later the flash crash of CSW's fart comes and blows down the price. NBD, I've been in bitcoin long enough to expect such blows.

My question is: How many of you use your (traditional/ roth) retirement accounts for increased Bitcoin exposure?

I grasp NYKNYC, no need to go there...again I own BTC out right as well.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / /XMR/ Monero General on: May 26, 2021, 02:10:24 PM
Welcome to the Monero General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading decentralized P2P privacy cryptocurrency!

Monero is secure, low-fee, and fungible, meaning users can send XMR around the globe despite corrupt governments or broken financial systems. Innovative privacy features such as Ring Signatures, Stealth Addresses, and Ring CT ensure that Monero's blockchain is obfuscated -- In other words, the financial history of all Monero users is encrypted from the prying eyes of adversaries on a public blockchain, with transactions being visible only by a user willingly providing a view key.

Monero has also improved upon the scaling downsides of current popular cryptos. To avoid high fees, dynamic block size ensures that the size of the blocks will increase as the amount of transactions increases. Further, the mining network algorithm RandomX establishes that anybody with a CPU can participate in mining, preventing the ASIC miner domination that creates a high barrier of entry. Lastly, the mining network will be preserved by Tail Emission -- instead of the block reward falling to zero like with Bitcoin, the block reward will gradually approach 0.6 XMR in June 2022, where it will forever stay. This constant linear inflation means the inflation rate will asymptotically go to zero while continuing to provide an incentive to miners to maintain the network.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a MoneroChad will be with you shortly.

10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / solve the riddle, find the key on: January 17, 2021, 02:58:36 PM
BTC

My discord server, feel free to join.
https://discord.gg/gxwqNDjprD

For every month it is not solved I will add $5 to the address

https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/1CMVig6Bcm4UC8pirDrrCQz2rHDM9o9vwY
the address to the riddle.

The first riddle is simple.
The private key is located where it all began. It began with a who. There is a place where you can view the who in another form. Think outside the box. Happy hunting.

Okay one hint for this month:

website where you can view keys

3/15/2021
as of today I am no longer adding funds to the address. I input $55 and it is now worth $86.

this is the website to find the key,  happy hunting.

Subject is straight forward, person with the coolest activevanity address earns .00055btc to that address

Considering there was great confusion or suggestions to make this a better competition.

The winner will be chosen by the 15th of January. 3pm pst.

1. Must be a vanity address
2. Must be actively used , or currently holding btc since december 1st minimum.
3.  Must be your vanity address
4. 1 address can be submitted. If you submit more then 1 address you auto magically cannot win. Exceptions are made for anyone who's already submitted.

You must pay me .01 btc for the .00055btc.....thats a joke lol.

due to lack of engagement no one has won the bounty.
12  Economy / Marketplace / How to start a donational fund for the Philippines people? on: November 01, 2020, 09:08:50 PM
How would we as a community put together a fund to donate to the Philippines using bitcoin?
13  Economy / Digital goods / Bitcoin4nudes.com for sale. on: October 25, 2020, 05:41:14 PM
I have recently bought the domain name bitcoin4nudes.com and I am willing to sell it for the right price.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / private key doesn't work on: September 23, 2020, 07:37:54 PM
Has anyone ever had an issue with a private key not working.

I've personally never had that happen, but I am curious if anyone had a paper wallet private key not work not from physical damage or negligence but from it simply not working.
15  Economy / Trading Discussion / I wish there was an option to invest in multiple coins via one purchase on: July 03, 2020, 03:08:46 PM
So there use to be a cryptoverse option on Gemini where it would in vest in each currency based off of market cap, there for bitcoin was granted the largest percent, ether 2nd.
I know Gemini got rid of this feature however if there was a way to invest weekly, monthly or whatever and choose the allocation amount I think we would see a massive bitcoin boom based off of the majority of people buy bitcoin. along with such id be buying 75% bitcoin, 15% ether and 10% LINK. What is your opinion?
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How signing and verifying messages on bitcoin on: May 27, 2020, 10:18:07 PM
So this is a very interesting aspect to me since craig has once again been caught lying.

But I dont really grasp how signing that message works. As in when i verify that message i needed the public address the signature and the messege...  but how does one decrypt it to know the message?
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin and cryptocurrency related domains on: May 18, 2020, 08:26:27 PM
I personally own linkmarine.org, and was curious about how these become phenomenally more expensive over time. Type in on godaddy/ namecheap anything bitcoin or btc or xbt and it's all a couple hundred or thousand dollars
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What if every miner but 1 CPU stopped mining for 4 weeks? on: May 06, 2020, 05:58:34 PM
Although it is unrealistic I was curious what would happen to bitcoins mining algorithm and hash rate.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Tyler winklevoss admires link? on: April 19, 2020, 01:44:26 PM
@tylerwinklevoss (his twitter handle) tweeted his admiration for link, now I only posted this here and not in altcoins because Tyler in many ways is a pioneer in the bitcoin movement. With that said you can view his tweet posted April 15, 2020. I dont feel comfortable clicking links here so I will not post one! But a general discussion of the growing support of link in the same way as bitcoin. Do you agree or disagree?

Hopefully this isnt removed! Happy bitcoining!
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Type of wallets and questions on: April 12, 2020, 10:28:47 PM
Hardware wallets which I personally use trezor t, I've never had an issue and their interface is simplistic, one of the hands down best ways I've seen yet, but I like to diversify a bit. Anyone have issues with these? I doubt it.

Paperwallets I've used the github zip of bitaddress.org I've personally never had an issue storing btc on it(inalways make 3 copies) but I was wondering if anyone else had...what I mean is your bitcoin being swept or the private key doesnt work, like its wrong?

Vanitygen64 github zip, I've used this to make a "1SenDBTcPo. 0000000000000 .JqzLotgAck " address I gave it about .01 BTC to see if it was malicious code, thus far it's been sitting there. I store it on an encrypted usb, which has never seen the net, and is password protected. I was wondering if anyone had any issues with their btc being swept with this or their private key doesnt work, I have tested another one and it worked fine but with like .0008 BTC.

I've never used a mobile wallet and never intend to. Unless its 100% off line.
