41  Economy / Gambling / P2P Gambling Via Any MultiPlayer Game Online For BITCOIN (Discussion Thread) on: April 07, 2015, 09:41:31 PM
Help us design this system:

A few of us have been playing various games around the web and betting bitcoins. We use honesty to make good on bets and threads to advertise games we want to play and keep track of results.

How can we run a better system?  Things we need to make the system run better:

1.) Escrow system

2.) A list of players who are willing to play X game for X amount of bitcoins (Perhaps a google spreadsheet?) threads dont work well because people get lost on page 56 wanting to play backgammon or something. (The list needs neutral hierarchy) Maybe we could do this system in a thread with a bot?

Another problem is people might want to play a game within a certain window of time, so the system needs to allow people to mark themselves available or away.

3.) There will be scams/mistakes but we can get this down to like 0.01% using feedback and logic just like ebay would.  Example: 2 people report they won a game, person A = dave who has a positive history with the system, person B = a newbie.  Money goes to Dave.

Also please consider most people are playing for like 0.001 a game or something, scams are a waste of time.

Gambit.com runs p2p games for bitcoin (not sure if you can actually gamble bitcoin) but people like to play other games from around the web, they are much better tbh, sorry gambit.com.

46  Economy / Economics / Pay what its worth business model on: March 27, 2015, 05:59:41 PM
If i changed my ebay business/any business to a pay what i paid for the item type business model and then when i send the customer the item a card is included explaining my business model to the customer asking them to donate for the value i added if they liked the service.... could this model be successful?  - perhaps adding a suggested donation.

Obviously most people would often choose not to donate but my sales would increase 3 fold is my guess from destroying competitors on list price.

People who disliked the product would be less likely to leave bad feedback due to the price being much cheaper originally.

47  Other / Off-topic / why are power port cable connections on laptops so shitty? on: February 12, 2015, 12:10:41 PM
Why are power port cable connections on laptops so shitty? every one i get ends up getting loser and loser before i end up gaffer taping the connecting wire to the laptop.

Also to fix it requires taking your computer to bits from what i see on youtube videos... why not have a specific plastic bit you can screw off for this problem it has to be very common.  Any better solutions or simple fix vids would be appreciated.

rant over.

March 2015 Update:

Hufflepuff cheated & managed to run off with the coins according to reports from primedice

------------------------

June 2015 Update:  https://medium.com/@Stunna/breaking-the-house-63f1021a3e6d

How it was done:

Quote
This is the story of how we lost around $1 million worth of bitcoin to a hacker who exploited our online casino’s RNG system. This happened last year, but we’ve decided to share our experience for transparency and so that others can learn from our mistakes.

August 2014

Shortly after the launch of the third version of Primedice, our team faced an adversary that challenged the existence of our website. Our team had nearly two years of experience building bitcoin gaming sites, however I personally had pretty limited coding experience. We were under heavy pressure to avoid further delays and released after a short week of closed beta testing.

The heist began immediately after launch with two unusual players, Nappa & Kane. We noticed unusual betting patterns from both those accounts. Kane was automatically cashed out, we reviewed Nappa’s bets and thought they were highly unusual but could find no wrong-doing and cashed him out after a delay and a brief email exchange

September 2014

After getting spooked by his delayed cashout on Nappa, the exploiter waited a few weeks and created a new account named “Hufflepuff”. Hufflepuff was the largest bettor Primedice had ever seen, he was often seen betting upwards of $8000 worth of bitcoin every second for hours on end. Our entire team was shocked that Hufflepuff continued to beat the house edge (1%) and stack up more and more profit over time.

We were highly skeptical of his winnings and were forced to hold his cashouts time and time again to investigate and each time our developers could not find any wrong-doing. We couldn’t justify greatly delaying his withdrawals when there was no evidence he was cheating. There was also strong incentive for us to promptly pay him, so he’d keep playing. We heavily explored what we thought was every possibility, ran simulations and did the math and came to the conclusion that he was just incredibly lucky.

The Discovery

About two days after sending his final withdrawal placing him above 2037 profit on the Hufflepuff account alone, our main developer detected the exploit after we found a handful of accounts sharing the same server seed.

To understand how Hufflepuff beat our system, one must understand how our provably fair system (RNG) works. A user is shown an encrypted random value (the server seed) before they bet and they must also submit their own random value (the client seed). These two random values are combined and used to determine win or lose. The random encrypted random value used for the bet then is shown to the user after the bet so that they can be guaranteed that their bet is not rigged. You can find the detailed and in-depth explanations of provably fair here:

https://primedice.com/verify and http://dicesites.com/provably-fair

Part of the functionality of our site is that we have to give out decrypted server seeds (to assure users no bet manipulation has occurred) and put a new random seed in place, essentially trashing the old revealed seed. Hufflepuff found a way to “confuse” our server, and made it give out a decrypted server seed that was also an active seed. This was done by sending it more requests than it could handle in a small time period, think hundreds of requests in under a second. The result of this is that he knew all the information required to corroborate the outcomes of his bets. He knew whether if he would win or lose, and could wager accordingly.

We figured this out after frantically checking our servers after a eureka moment. We suspected something could have been going on and eventually realized the possibility of a timing attack described above. Our database had seeds that were both inactive and in use at the same time all connected to Hufflepuff. Along these “Schrödinger” seeds existed many seemingly unused seeds connected to the same accounts, indicative of the rapid fire of requests needed to obtain these.

Déjà vu

Unfortunately we detected this exploit after cashing out Hufflepuff and his handful of accounts 2400+ coins (roughly $1M at the time). Given the nature of Bitcoin there wasn’t much we could do but take it on the chin. We reached out to Hufflepuff via his bitcointalk forum account and demanded the return of the coins, however this backfired unbelievably hard. It turned out that our developer had improperly patched the glitch. In response to our message, Hufflepuff created a new account named Robbinhood and proceeded to rapidly win 2000+ additional bitcoins using a work-around to the patch. He was unable to cashout more than 50 or 60 coins this time around as our site hot-wallet was drained.

Shortly after he privately sent us this message which was preceded with the dox of a primedice employee:

“Your offer is declined. Your demands are laughable. I’m happy to walk away and leave you be, but if you’re going to take this further, then so will I. I don’t think you want this to go further. I actually enjoy this shit. Your move.
Oh, and by the way, there are some pending withdrawals that you need to process.”

And that was the day the house didn’t win…

Any information that leads to the return of the coins from this incident will be greatly rewarded. We invite you to analyze the above bitcoin addresses and find out where the bulk of the coins ended up if you have the skills.

It’s also important to note that this incident is proof of the strength of our integrity and provably fair system. If at any point we attempted to rig Hufflepuff’s bets (skip nonces etc) we would have instantly realized he was cheating and we would have 2400+ more bitcoins. Hufflepuff only took a brief break from playing after we halved our max bet, I believe he would have cleaned us had we never discovered what was going on. We fund our own bankroll so no users were negatively impacted as a result of this.

Sorry for the long read,

52  Economy / Gambling / Decentralized Dice Or Decentralized Poker - Is This Possible? on: September 22, 2014, 06:10:59 AM
As much as i like primedice with openbazaar recently launching it got me thinking of what innovations were possible in the gambling world.

Decentralized dice decentralized poker with no house edge or rake would be pretty amazing creations.  With dice i guess the network would just be one massive PVP system and super fast rolling wouldnt be possible without a house bankroll.

With poker, a centralized non rake site has always been unsuccessful previously due to no money for advertising to attract players. (Side note: Im concerned openbazaar might not be a big deal for similar reason.)

So yeah... any of the above currently possible?

This wild ass speculation is based on:

2.) Roger Ver was at a tokyo meet up.... a random stranger told someone in ##mtgox-talk that a friend of a friend saw another blockchainer VIP with Mr Ver.

Selachii LLP
London
7th March 2014 www.selachii.co.uk

Selachii LLP have now received enquiries from more than 1,000 potential Claimants following the collapse of the MT Gox Bitcoin exchange. We have retained the services of Nigel Power QC and Daniel Rogers of 7 Harrington Street Chambers to pursue these claims. There are obvious advantages in costs for group action or actions to be pursued against Mt Gox (and/or Tibanne KK and Mark Karpeles) for fraud, negligence and/or breach of contract in Japan, the USA and/or England. Because of this, Selachii LLP are in advanced talks with Japanese and US lawyers with a view to combining resources and keeping costs to a minimum.

As Mt Gox have filed for bankruptcy protection in Japan, it is important to realise that establishing liability against the company may not necessarily result in the recovery of damages, a position which will be carefully monitored. As in all litigation, there is a cost risk for a Claimant if that Claimant were to lose the litigation. However, we are examining options for Insurance policies that would protect Claimants from such costs. Further and detailed advice from Counsel regarding appropriate litigation insurance and also the prospects of success of any claims will be forthcoming to clients in due course. However, more detail regarding the losses is required in order for us to provide this advice and guidance to clients.

A questionnaire has been prepared which will give sufficient information for every potential claim to be assessed quickly. Counsel will provide a full opinion on the merits and advice as to how matters should be taken forward by the 24th March 2014, or 7 days after receipt of the questionnaire, whichever is the later date.
The fee for Counsel and Selachii LLP to initially build a case, obtain evidence and undertake fact finding will be 2 BTC per claimant.

This fee will also include:-

(i) The written Opinion from Counsel referred to above, with regular updates as your case progresses.
(ii) Management of your claim generally
(iii) Negotiation with Lawyers instructed by Mt. Gox (and others)
(iv) Engaging in the Bankruptcy proceedings
(v) Liaising with law firms in USA/Japan and any other relevant jurisdictions in respect of issuing class action proceedings.

It is felt that at this stage, it will only be viable financially to claimants to join in the class actions if they have 7 BTC or more.

We would be grateful if each client who wishes to proceed would return the signed questionnaire and terms of business (with certified ID as per the questionnaire) by email and post. The claim will then be processed when funds on account of 2 BTC arrive (address TBA).

It is important for claimants to understand that a claim will only be issued if negotiations fail. If it becomes necessary to issue claims, consideration will be given to the filing of class actions in whichever jurisdiction is deemed appropriate for your case. At that stage a further quotation will be provided (if necessary) for the costs relating to litigation, although consideration will also be given to proceeding on a contingency fee basis.

--------------------

Sorry but i think this should be discussed, many young people in bitcoin are likely very new to the legal world:

The pricing is 2 BTC for initial legal costs = $1200, if you get near 1k people that is over 1 million dollars before we get started.  Fully aware this would cost huge amounts with individual cases.

1.) Approximately how much extra could be charged from selachii if the MtGox case goes further?

2.) Is the 2 btc refunded if MtGox open for business in say a weeks time & have the ability to pay everyone back?

3.) Why 2 btc?   (Dont always have to round up to whole bitcoins if pricing things in bitcoins guys Smiley). There is no price break down for the 2 btc.

Note: I will personally find 2btc amazing value with some kind of result or guarantee btw

4.) Will selachii be waiting to see MtGox's plan for rehabilitation before charging any clients?

5.) Will clients be asked to pay 2btc before knowing insurance policy details/potential success of any claims?

I really think you should hold off on charging 2 btc until we know more from Mtgox or another idea would be charge for an application admin fee & any any initial legal work up to this point.    The negotiation cost could come later.

Anyone else have concerns please post.
