1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / GOLD can now be made in laboratories and what it means for bitcoins on: May 02, 2014, 12:19:05 AM
not sure which forum to put it under so feel free to move it.

for the first time in history it is now possible to product 24k 99% pure gold using bacteria!!!!!!

the effective gold supply is not increased many times more.

what does this mean for gold bugs, what does it mean for people who say gold can't be "counterfeited", and what impact will this have on gold value being moved into bitcoins.

source:
http://gizmodo.com/5948739/researchers-discover-bacteria-that-can-produce-pure-gold

welcome to the new world! i've heard people say "people will never be able to produce gold"... well ...
2  Economy / Service Discussion / URGENT: drop MTGOX class action lawyers! contact WSJ about their lies URGENT! on: April 29, 2014, 03:38:49 PM
this is complete BULLSHIT.

http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702304893404579530262159284736.

this is the second time WSJ is running fake, made up news about "creditor" support.

the SUNLOT plan DOES NOT have MAJORITY BACKER SUPPORT as the MAJORITY BACKERS were never consulted or AGREED TO ANYTHING.

the SUNLOT plan is awful in it's original and revised form. it should not be adopted by the creditors of MTGOX.

(deleted a bunch of stuff that made me sound like i was raging)
3  Other / Off-topic / how malware can be prevented in browser extensions on: April 26, 2014, 01:28:51 AM
have Google, Firefox etc VERIFY identity of the corporation and or individual who submits the extension. that way the can be traced back and held legally liable for their behavior, or at least have a starting point for an investigation.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / use of "cash" fiat is extremely unsanitary new research finds on: April 24, 2014, 06:15:27 PM

5  Economy / Speculation / Smart money is HOLDING not day trading on: April 11, 2014, 05:31:44 AM
day trading something that goes up and down 50% based on someone farting is just borderline suicidal.
the people with the real money are buying and HOLDING
barry silbert and co are holding 100k bitcoins not selling any
winklevii are holding not selling any
only day traders who think they know how to interpret which way the fart travels are doing the whole price manipulation. overall they get slaughtered in the the long run

price is going up. don't worry let the fart chasers do their interpreting
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / STOP all the nationalistic coins - why revert to stupid boundaries on: April 09, 2014, 03:06:24 AM
seriously,
this is borderline stupid.
one currency-  bitcoin, litecoin etc - universal
nationalistic currency seems like going back to stupid pointless ideals.
bitcoin is doing something of making 1 currency, universal why put up unnecessary barriers or requirements by making currencies/property based on nationalities.

opposite of progress
7  Economy / Speculation / silly geese, why not diverge on: February 14, 2014, 03:23:46 AM
why not have bitstamp, coinbase, btcchina go the other way. then retards/opportunists on gox will stop being stupid/trying to buy back lower.

all it takes is every other exchange to reverse course.
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Superduh's Law - (as time -> infinity, amount of virtual coins stolen -> 100%) on: January 15, 2014, 10:52:10 PM
it's somewhat obvious, but just wanting to coin the phenomenon. playing of Godwin's law.
it's an unfortunate situation but the reality makes this formula hold true.

as time approaches infinity amount of coins stolen in circulation (that aren't lost) approaches 100%.

now please, hackers, STOP proving my theory correct!
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / if you want btc to succeed start dumping your iDevices/Apple on: December 12, 2013, 03:34:31 AM
apple's on a mission to ban legitimate apps that threaten it's great wall of apple.
bitcoin could make it possible that they lose their edge at milking the sheep.
http://bitcoinowl.com/why-you-cant-run-bitcoin-apps-your-iphone

if you have any respect for yourself regardless of if you like bitcoin or not it's time to dump all your iCrap and look for better options in your life.

seriously, time for apple to go the way of blackberry and wither away.

11  Economy / Speculation / when will bitcoin's market cap surpass gold's? on: December 11, 2013, 01:29:04 AM
it's bound to happen. who the fuck cares about a shiny yellow metal anymore. not us geeks Wink

so i've been thinking about this and i'm fairly confident gold will plummet back down to 200 or so soon.
let's make predictions
2018?
12  Economy / Speculation / buy high, sell low - the proven strategy that guarantees negative returns on: December 07, 2013, 02:16:39 AM
more of a reminder that if anyone bought at a higher price that they will be selling it at - you should think about it a bit more.
nothing guarantees you a loss like a real, realized loss.

nothing has changed in the last week. the china news isn't bad no matter how you spin it. since nothing has changed keep in mind that most people who panic and sell at a loss later buy it back (after already taking a loss). if you are new then hopefully you thought about what you were doing when you bought in. think some more about realizing a loss.

it's happened many times. the results are always the same. most people who utilize the buy high sell low strategy aren't usually happy with their results.

a friendly reminder.
13  Economy / Speculation / unsubstantiated ATH, bubble will burst again- soon on: November 23, 2013, 01:16:08 AM
the US stock market has hit certain milestones that are ridiculous and unsubstantiated.
this "pyramid/ponzi" scheme is on the verge of breaking. mark my words -
careful putting money into the stock market and as always don't put any money that you can't afford to lose

p/e ratios of over 100? get out of here.............
and people laugh at bitcoin without realizing the simple things
wall street unaffected.

(not any sort of professional advice or opinion, make your own decisions)
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / similar characteristics between bitcoins and beanie babies / tulips on: November 21, 2013, 05:18:06 AM
none.

so it amazes me when people think that they are smart by comparing it to either beanie babies or tulips.

yes, you are really "smart" because you have put a lot of thought behind your thinking.

while there is a possibility that bitcoin may fail that doesn't mean your argument for them failing has to be really really stupid.

seems like every article on bitcoins theres always people invoking tulips and beanie babies when they have absolutely nothing in common at all in any way, shape, or form, or use.

and those people feel "smug" as if they are really "smart"

15  Economy / Service Discussion / thank you mt gox (seriously) on: November 20, 2013, 07:52:11 PM
despite banking problems (that aren't necessarily their fault)
and besides the ongoing situation regarding bitconica

mtgox has not run away with your coins, and they have become resilient to ongoing hacking attempts.
given how many exchanges have come and went, got hacked to oblivion, or ZhouTonged/TradeFortress-ed
mtgox is still here.

in the bitcoin world of scams at least mtgox isn't trying to be one
16  Bitcoin / Project Development / coin control in clients? on: November 20, 2013, 08:52:37 AM
search yielded results that didn't make sense

anyways

is there a reason that btc-qt and other? programs lack "coin control"

it appears to me that blockchain.info offers it

is there a real reason that people can't pick their "input" (using like a checkbox etc) and pick an output address (in case people want to reuse certain ones). it makes it easier for "backups" in non-deterministic clients and frankly makes sense too.
what's the official word regarding this?

18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Yifu Guo (with others) launching "coin validation" on: November 13, 2013, 04:43:03 PM
to track clean vs dirty coins.

will likely add avalon's coins to the dirty list for all the preminining they did and all the contracts they broke and all the illegal activity his company avalon was involved in. the hypocrisy of guo! maybe he's trying to get his chi back. i am pretty sure that the lawsuits against him will proceed regardless.

seriously?! yifu leading the cause. what does the bitcoin community think

The ideologies and my responses:

Distributed currency - Who cares? What's the real advantage to that?
No government or bank controls it - OK. Again, so what?
Transactions are anonymous - Not true at all but why should that matter unless you're doing something that requires anonymity**? Use cash instead.

After all that, here's what I really think of Bitcoin and the whole Bitcoin frenzy:

Bitcoin was an experiment—an anonymously created project and that's all.
Bitcoin is interesting from a purely esoteric point-of-view not a practical one.
People will fall for just about anything that they think is anti-government.
People will fall for just about anything.
Just about anything can be used as currency.
Being distributed is no advantage.
Being P2P is no advantage.
Not being controlled by a bank or government is no advantage.
Bitcoins are susceptible to theft and hacking.
Bitcoin transactions are not anonymous.
It's mostly hype and ideology.
The hype is derived from a clever marketing plan perpetrated to artificially raise the value of something that has no value.
Is more akin to cigarettes in prison rather than a real world currency.
Just because people are jumping on the bandwagon doesn't make it something you should get involved with***.
It's OK with me if people use Bitcoin, however, don't try to pay me with it.
I don't care if there are Bitcoin vending machines. Cigarettes used to be sold in vending machines too.
The perceived value is too volatile for a real currency.
Bitcoin is a bad name. It should have been Bitbucks or Bitbux. Bad call.
Just because you like it, doesn't mean anyone else has to. I don't like bubble tea either, so what.
In ten years, Bitcoin will be one of the things you laugh about.
If you have to purchase a currency in order to buy stuff that you can buy anyway, there's something screwy about that.

i will refrain from making obvious comments about the author
20  Economy / Speculation / snapchat value > bitcoin cap, twitter value X 5 times bitcoin cap on: October 29, 2013, 10:42:14 PM
saw this and tried hard to not laugh.
http://finance.yahoo.com/video/snapchat-worth-3-6b-twitter-194015881.html

how on earth do people consider bitcoins priced too high now when companies that make no money or lose money are priced how they are.
i don't understand humanity or dinosaur investors.
