Please sign my White House petition to nationalize the banks.

I also have one for instating reporting standards on private health insurance companies.

I think we could nick $6 short-term, but looking at $8 in the mid-term.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Pulled- Ron Paul's Presidential Campaign Now Accepts Bitcoins through Tradehill! on: July 26, 2011, 09:12:38 PM
Thought some may be interested. This is their initial response to my inquiry:

Quote
Hello T.

We do not accept bitcoins.  As it’s fairly new and as much as anything, it would probably confuse the FEC and how we reported these donations!

Thanks for your support.

John

>>
To Whom It May Concern,

How can I donate bitcoins to Ron Paul's presidential campaign?

-T

Edit: Tradehill informs you can now donate to Ron Paul through their site!

Donated 2 BTC.

Disclaimer: I'm a left-leaning Independent who has voted "D" my whole life. Getting politicians to accept bitcoins, even circuitously, would be a huge step forward for the currency. Ron Paul is the most obvious in-point because of his policy positions.

Edit 2: Tradehill reconsiders, pulls donation option and returns funds

5  Economy / Speculation / Weekend Now Over on: July 18, 2011, 09:25:48 PM

Any one willing to pledge bitcoin to have bitcoin flyers distributed at NRA rally's?
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Quick Market Analysis - 7/29 10 PM EST on: June 30, 2011, 02:36:04 AM
TH Asks: $253,500.1
Gox Asks: $277,886.64
TH Bids: $160,727.65
Gox Bids: $643,869.39

Total Market Cap.: $1,335,983.78

TH Asks: 9,908.38 BTC
Gox Asks: 1,5696.07 BTC

25,604.45 BTC in Market
0.38% of all BTC Making the Market

TH + Gox Bids: 227,935.33 BTC
3.404% of all BTC Demanded

With so few bitcoins in the market place, it's safe to assume that the price is inflated. Long-time miners likely hold most of it and are currently responsible for the downward pressures. I believe most of the large holders are devout believers in bitcoin and will defend the price. I wouldn't rule out a fall to previous trading ranges.

EDIT: As discussed later in the thread, these values only represent fractions of Mt. Gox orderbook.

9  Economy / Trading Discussion / Lack of Data Contributing to Sell Off on: June 26, 2011, 08:02:39 PM
Can't see stops without depth = large holder rush to the bottom. Bye bye 14
10  Economy / Trading Discussion / Poll: Short-Term Trading Range on: June 26, 2011, 02:09:06 PM
Where are we going to end up?
11  Economy / Trading Discussion / Opening predictions on: June 26, 2011, 03:51:20 AM
Will the 24 hours after Mt. Gox opens look like the 24 hours before it opened on Tradehill?

Some Charts of Interest

Facts:
Money doesn't transfer fast enough to pull cash out of Mt. Gox and into another exchange.

Until Mt. Gox opened, the majority of the trading bitcoins were frozen assets without absolute guarantee of return.

Only 100 BTC per account could possibly have been moved to tradehill for liquidation.

The ratio of buyers to sellers on TH favored sellers by a significant margin.

Unlike before this happened, everyone knows the largest bitcoin exchange is currently run by two dudes in Japan who are arguably unprofessional, to say the least.

Bitcoin value dictates value of mining. Mining cost should not be relevant to value of bitcoin.
