1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / bitcoin qt -0.8.5 on: December 05, 2013, 03:33:26 PM
I had a wallet.dat file from long time ago ... thought I put in the wallet to check on the wealth and health.

I just loaded bitcoin-qt 0.8.5 and it's running on Win XP 32 bit. Replaced the wallet and re-launched bitcoin-qt. The flash screen is gone but the application never did come up. In place of the flash screen is a squarish rectangle that was last being displayed.

On the top right hand corner, bitcoin qt seems to be running. However, I cannot see anything other than that.

Any ideas what's going on?

Is MtGox dead? If I remember correctly, the usd/btc doesn't seem to have changed much.

What other exchanges are there??
3  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitcoin on CNBC on: March 27, 2013, 08:57:21 PM
Just saw this article ... http://www.cnbc.com/id/100597242
Thought it might be interesting to share it here ...
4  Other / Beginners & Help / It has been awhile ... on: March 06, 2013, 10:38:01 PM
... since I last mess with BTC stuff.

So I just downloaded bitcoin-qt from http://bitcoin.org/ - the Windows (zip) version.
It'll be running on Win7. Just want to make sure the following is still true.

1) Unzip the bitcoin-qt file
2) Run it so it'll create a wallet.dat and folder structure in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin
3) Copy my old wallet.dat to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin

And I should see my balance once the sync with network is completed.

Are those still the steps? Do I have to do anything extra / special with the new btc client?

Thanks!
5  Other / Beginners & Help / ASIC came true? on: November 28, 2012, 02:46:41 PM
I have been away from the forum for some time now; I search for ASIC (is it ASIC - I meant Butterfly Labs products and the like ) and none seem to have updated status. With BTC halving in matter of an hour or so, I was wondering if ASIC products ever came online?
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Paper Wallet to bitcoin-qt on: September 13, 2012, 07:42:50 PM
I haven't been here for a long time due to transition from fresh grad to working "adult".

Anyway, I'm intrigued by the development of Paper Wallet. My question however is how do I add the address from the paper wallet to the bitcoin-qt (for when I need to spend btc - possibly need to update blocks?)

So for example, I go to https://www.bitaddress.org/ and I created a btc address, let's say xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ; along with it a private key of yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. How (if there's a way) do I add this address to the bicoin client, bitcoin-qt??
7  Economy / Goods / Moving and Selling Mining Rig on: October 16, 2011, 01:13:45 PM
Hate to repost; but someone in the thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=47914.0 "suggested" I post in Goods section. Anyway, the story is on that thread. Here are the specs of the system:

Athlon II X2 250
2 GB DDR3-1333 RAM
500 GB Hard Drive
700 watt power supply
Ubuntu 10.10
2x ATI 6970 video cards (hasn't been registered with ATI for warranty - buyer gets full warranty)
Mining output with 2x cards = 730 MH/s  (I never pushed my card over 900++ MHz like some miners here; just at 880MHz. Plus, rarely mined due to busy school work)

Comes with latest bitcoin client and phoenix 1.5.

PM me if interested. Thanks.

8  Other / Beginners & Help / Moving end of this year ... selling mining rig. on: October 12, 2011, 04:26:26 PM
Need to be move end of this year; wants to sell my mining rig. One less thing to move is one less headache. Trying to fit everything I need in my current apartment into a car.
It's got 2 6970 and everything ready to mine. It's relatively new, only started mining since Jul 2011 and hasn't mined much at all due to my busy schedule. Figure I'll try to sell it off and get some cash for the move since I won't have time to mess with BTC at my new place with the new job.

Some specs.
•Athlon II X2 250
•2 GB DDR3-1333 RAM
•500 GB Hard Drive
•700 watt power supply
•Ubuntu 10.10
•2x ATI 6970 video cards  EDIT: XFX
•Mining output with 2x cards = 730 MH/s

Comes with latest bitcoin client and phoenix 1.5.

PM me if interested. Thanks.

11  Other / Beginners & Help / Mining workers at mining pools? on: July 15, 2011, 08:58:05 PM
I have come across a few pools that one needs to create workers to mine. I don't understand the need for that.

Questions I have:
Should I create different workers for different GPU? Or should I use 1 worker for both GPU? Is it better to have 2 different working on different GPU? What is the purpose of the workers?
12  Bitcoin / Mining / Why is my 2nd card slower than my first card? on: July 12, 2011, 11:17:28 PM
Both cards are 6970s.

My DEVICE 0 is running at 360MH/s and my DEVICE 1 is running at 200MH/s.

aticonfig --odgt shows both are the same.

Adapter 0 - AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series
                            Core (MHz)    Memory (MHz)
           Current Clocks :    250           150
             Current Peak :    880           1375
  Configurable Peak Range : [500-950]     [1375-1450]
                 GPU load :    0%

Adapter 1 - AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series
                            Core (MHz)    Memory (MHz)
           Current Clocks :    250           150
             Current Peak :    880           1375
  Configurable Peak Range : [500-950]     [1375-1450]

13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / AMD Overdrive Control controlling both cards? on: July 12, 2011, 11:09:12 PM
Is AMD Overdrive Control for ubuntu 10.10 able to control both 6970 cards? If so, how?

15  Other / Beginners & Help / www.nofeemining.com down? Or Dead? on: July 11, 2011, 01:47:16 PM

16  Other / Beginners & Help / clocking recommendations for 6970 on: July 04, 2011, 08:27:55 PM
I'm trying out btc mining with 2 HD 6970 cards. Using AMD Overdrive Control, I have set core at 880 max, memory at 125 max, power at 0.930 max and fan speed at a linear control (about 46xx RPM when mining), temperature around high 70s low 80s C and getting around 280 MHash/sec each with Phoenix miner 1.50 and the following command

./phoenix.py -u http://worker_name:XXXX@useast.btcguild.com:8332/ -k poclbm DEVICE=0
./phoenix.py -u http://worker_name:XXXX@uscentral.btcguild.com:8332/ -k poclbm DEVICE=1

1) Any clocking recommendations using AMD Overdrive Control??
2) Any flag recommendations to the command?

thanks.
