Theymos, it would be nice to hear an update as to: 1) Why it took this long of downtime to identify and fix the problem and what steps were needed to address all of the issues? 2) What protection have you implemented (or plan to implement) to prevent further such attacks in the future? 3) If, as you mentioned in the Reddit thread, the hack was caused by a vulnerability in the news section of this website, then maybe it would be better to remove the news section entirely? I am glad that the BitcoinTalk forum is back up and I am sure that I was not the only one suffering while it was unavailable. Also this was the email I received on 10/3/2013 after the forum was offline: Subject: Bitcoin Forum Compromised-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 Unfortunately, it was recently discovered that the Bitcoin Forum's server was compromised. It is currently believed that the attacker(s) *could* have accessed the database, but at this time it is unknown whether they actually did so. If they accessed the database, they would have had access to all personal messages, emails, and password hashes. To be safe, it is recommended that all Bitcoin Forum users consider any password used on the Bitcoin Forum in 2013 to be insecure: if you used this password on a different site, change it. When the Bitcoin Forum returns, change your password. Passwords on the Bitcoin Forum are hashed with 7500 rounds of sha256crypt. This is very strong. It may take years for reasonably-strong passwords to be cracked. Even so, it is best to assume that the attacker will be able to crack your passwords. The Bitcoin Forum will return within the next several days after a full investigation has been conducted and we are sure that this problem cannot recur. Check http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/ and #bitcoin on Freenode for more info as it develops. We apologize for the inconvenience. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iF4EAREIAAYFAlJNCE8ACgkQxlVWk9q1kecABgD9H5sbb0DopdLsODAmv6LWmIaW kgfyYTlh8GezYbYx7c8A/iTh0/DCwaXuNKK/qUWpewR/L6HEOuAqa/ML1D+K9mZc =1NYs -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Trade -> Funding Options -> Withdraw Funds ->
The "USD via Mt. Gox Code" option is Missing: However, in "Add Funds", you are still able to deposit a "redeem Mt.Gox Code"?

If the past is any indication of what will happen when Mt Gox reopens, the following is a technical analysis estimation. A high of $31.90 was reached on 2011-6-8 Five months later a low of $1.99 was reached on 2011-11-17 The reduction in price was $29.91 per Bitcoin ( ~93.8%) If we apply a similar percentage correction (~93.8%) to the high of $266 that was reached on 2012-4-10. That will result in a reduction of $249.41 per Bitcoin down to a price of $16.59. There are, however, several fundamental differences which can result in a higher % variance: 1) There are currently more Bitcoins in circulation than in 2011 2) There are more adopters/users/companies that accept BTC 3) There are significantly more speculators/hoarders who are playing BTC like a stock market 4) Today's considerably more mainstream media attention can exaggerate or understate events

Noticed the " I hate paypal." thread and thought I would start one about eBay seeing as how they're blood relatives. Just sold a motherboard to some guy who before even contacting me, leaves a negative feedback claiming that it was DOA. Now, I tested this motherboard before shipping it to him, so I know that it works. I also made sure to package it well so that there was no movement to minimize the risk of damage during shipment. I sent him a message telling him to make sure that he's using compatible parts (RAM/CPU/etc.) along with a link to the support website. I am sure that he's just using a memory stick that is not compatible with this motherboard. We are currently in communication to fix his own hardware problem ... So now that he left me negative feedback, he's also getting FREE Tech Support from me on how to fix his incompatiblity issue. I have maintained a 100% Positive Feedback rating since 2004, and now because of some __________(Fill-In-The-Blank) my rating goes down to 96.6%. eBay will not allow a seller to remove feedback even if the buyer is lying or doing something wrong so I'm stuck with it. Feel free to share your own bad eBay selling/buying experiences.

Update 4/1/2012: [Project Cancelled Due To Insufficient Donations] I would like to setup a Tor Relay Access Node to ease the burden on current nodes and to help with the slow Tor speed. To accomplish this, I'm thinking about purchasing this PC and connect it directly to my modem. This unit costs $354 shipped from Amazon, I have some GCs so it will be about $319 / 5.91 (current rate) = 54 Bitcoins PC Setup Specifications:- 1.6Ghz atom CPU, 1GB SDRAM - Auto-Boot, automatically turns on when power is connected - SSD, so no HDD failures (comes with a 8GB SSD, but I have an Intel 40GB SSD that I will install instead) - 24/7 operation - OS: ? - I will let the community decide which operating system is best for this purpose. But it must be secure, stable, and provide good performance. Manufacturer's Homepage - They also offer a 1.1GHz model and a 2.0GHz model with 2GB RAM, but I figured for the cost-to-performance, the 1.6GHz model is ideal for its use as a node. My Part In The Project:- I will be paying for all bandwith costs. - I will be paying for all energy costs. - This unit will be running 24/7 for the forseeable future. - I will post updates on any changes in the status of the Relay/PC. There may be things out of my direct control such as what happened during last year's hurricane, most of NJ lost power for ~2-3 days. If there aren't enough donated coins by 5/1/2012 4/1/2012, this project will be cancelled and all donated coins will be refunded to donators. But, if the donated amount reaches 82 BTC ($482), then I'll purchase the 2.0GHz model instead and if it reaches 114 BTC ($673), then I'll buy and install two 1.6GHz models in separate locations. Tor Relay Project Donation Address: [ REMOVED No Longer Active] I have started the fund with 1 Coin. Feel free to ask questions and discuss ideas about this project and thanks to everyone for their input in advance.
