1  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Unable to build Bitcoin-qt on Arch Linux on: March 30, 2017, 12:18:28 PM
I'm trying to build Bitcoin with the qt wallet frontend on Arch Linux but I have a few issues in the compile stage.

Code:
qt/test/wallettests.cpp: In function ‘void {anonymous}::ConfirmSend()’:
qt/test/wallettests.cpp:27:38: error: ‘void QTimer::timeout()’ is protected within this context
     QObject::connect(timer, &QTimer::timeout, []() {

qt/test/wallettests.cpp:36:6: error: no matching function for call to ‘QObject::connect(QTimer*&, void (QTimer::*)(), {anonymous}::ConfirmSend()::<lambda()>)’
     });

Building off master, commit hash 8ac80412867118172dc4172494304e19969e9489.

Here's the versions of dependencies I have installed

db 4.8.30.NC
qt 4.8.7
gcc 6.3.1

I'm sure it's some stupid mistake I've made but I'm scratching my head here. Any help would be greatly appreciated Smiley

edit: forgot to include commands I ran

Code:
./autogen.sh
./configure LDFLAGS="-L${BDB_PREFIX}/lib/" CPPFLAGS="-I${BDB_PREFIX}/include/" --without-miniupnpc
make -j17

edit 2: Sorry, not sure if this is supposed to go into "Development & Technical Discussion" or "Technical Support".

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Looking After Paper Wallets on: March 19, 2017, 08:48:38 AM
Hi all, can anybody with paper wallets tell me how they look after their wallets and how long they expect them to last?

bitcoinpaperwallet.com sells a tamper resistant sticker so that you can fold up the paper and know if anybody has had a cheeky peek at your private key, but I was thinking of something more on the lines of laminating the paper to prevent it from getting water damaged.

Another possibility is the ink getting damaged by the sun and becoming unreadable, not sure what you can do about that so I was just going to leave them in a safe.

Lastly, can anybody see anything wrong with coating the paper with resin, or sealing it in a resin block? I think doing that would last longer than laminating it.

Thanks Smiley
4  Bitcoin / Project Development / Looking for one back end web developer to join team on: February 17, 2016, 03:34:31 AM
Hey guys,

My name is Kevin and I created (and am currently maintaining) a public, free web application called BTCPredictions (www.btcpredictions.com). This web application uses artificial intelligence algorithms to try to predict future bitcoin and forex exchange rates.

Recently I put together a team of six members to help me with expanding the project and adding new features. So far this has been working out fantastically and we are building some awesome new features pretty quickly. Unfortunately we just lost our back end web developer and we need someone to replace him. The back end web development would involve building out a series of RESTful APIs for the client (created by the front end team) to interact with.

We would like to bring on one (or potentially two) back end web developers. Please email me if you may be interested/would like to know more about the project or what we are looking for. You can reach me at BTCPredictions@gmail.com
5  Bitcoin / Project Development / Started project and need help expanding - any front end web developers? on: January 13, 2016, 02:51:58 AM
www.btcpredictions.com

Hey guys,

I have been running a web app (link at top of post) for a while now and I'm getting to the point where it's becoming too much work for me to do on my own. I am interested in finding some front end web developers who can help me out with the ui/ux.

Here is some basic info about the project:
BTCPredictions uses machine learning to try to predict future bitcoin and currency exchange rates (and potentially other commodities and assets in the future). Specifically, it uses artificial neural networks. The predictions are displayed on simple, easy to read charts. You can also see how they have performed in the past versus actual prices. I am hoping to add more features such as a trade simulator, more predictions, trading strategies + notifications, etc.

I am happy to go into much more detail about the project with anyone who is interested. Feel free to email me at btcpredictions@gmail.com

Currently there are a LOT of moving pieces involved in this project, and it's getting to be a lot for one person. I have been doing a lot of work on developing out apis and working on the predictions themselves, but I kind of rushed through the ui (as you can see). I'm not much of a ui/ux developer, so I am interested in finding someone who can help me out.

Feel free to respond to this thread or shoot me an email if you are interested, and we can schedule some time to talk. Also it's a big bonus if you happen to live in the Boston area!

6  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin, EUR/USD, and AUD/USD short term predictions using machine learning on: January 12, 2016, 01:32:39 AM
I run a website (www.btcpredictions.com) which I posted about on here close to a year ago. I got helpful feedback from people, so I thought I would ask here again because I've just recently made some major changes.

This site uses artificial intelligence algorithms to try to predict future bitcoin prices over the next 24 hours and 5 days. The predictions are displayed on simple charts. The major changes that I've made in this newest version is that it now predicts aud/usd and eur/usd exchange rates in addition to bitcoin, and that it shows past performance (which won't start working until tomorrow). I'll be adding more currency pairs soon too.

Anyway I was hoping to see what people thought, and get some suggestions on what could improve. I know the ui is a bit crappy... I'm more of a back-end software kind of guy. There are some bugs in it too, but it seems to be functioning mostly for the moment.

Any constructive feedback would be much appreciated!
7  Bitcoin / Project Development / Looking for web developers interested in neural network project (BTC + Stocks) on: August 23, 2015, 04:59:04 PM
Hello people!

tl;dr - Any web developers interested in working on a project with me for coming up with investment trading strategies? Particularly with bitcoin, but moving beyond that as well? Message me if you'd like to know more, or just email me at btcpredictions@gmail.com

I am posting here to see if there are any web devs out there interested in working on this project with me involving using neural networks to create effective trading strategies for bitcoin, stocks, and other commodities. For a while now, I've working on a similar project which uses neural networks to try to predict future bitcoin prices, which can be seen here: http://www.btcpredictions.com. The problem is that there is a TON of work I would like to do with this but I don't have nearly enough resources to do it all myself.

Basically what I'm trying to create is a web application where you can log in and see analytic data about bitcoin, other cryptocurrencies, and stocks (to start out). The neural networks that I'm working on create strategies for trading bitcoin that attempt to achieve a reasonable profit with as low of a risk as possible. There are several ways of doing this that I am happy to talk about in more detail if anyone is interested. I am also hoping to incorporate desktop and mobile notifications that would alert traders about events that would trigger the trading strategies to buy or sell.

I've already built a back end restful API using Go, which has JSON endpoints for gathering any current or historic price or strategy data over a given time period for a given commodity. I'm working on improving the already existing neural networks and incorporating more input data that should help the output data be much more accurate and make the strategies much more effective. One of the big parts of this project which I haven't done a lot of work on is creating a front end web application, so that is one area where I could use a lot of help. There is also a lot of work still to be done both in the back end web dev area and on the AI side of things. I've been trying to do this all myself but I'm at the point now where I don't think it makes a lot of sense for one person to do. I have very high hopes for the code and design quality of this application, so it's difficult for me to create every component up to my own standards (especially since I'm still relatively new to the web dev side of this and I'm using new technologies that I've never used before).

If anyone is interested in learning more about this project and potentially helping me out with it, please message me or send me an email at btcpredictions@gmail.com! Especially if you live in the Boston area!

8  Economy / Speculation / Predicting about $420 in 24 hours, upper $400s by Thursday on: September 21, 2014, 01:47:53 PM
http://www.btcpredictions.com

System has been very accurate the past few days (you can see this in the actual price vs prediction comparison charts), which hopefully indicates that it will be for the next couple days as well. Shows price going to about $420 in 24 hours and then about $475 by this Thursday. Of course, now that I'm posting about it the price will probably plummet lol
9  Bitcoin / Project Development / Looking for intelligent people in Boston interested in AI/btc on: September 13, 2014, 10:33:02 PM
Hey guys,

tl;dr skip to last paragraph

My name is Kevin and I run the website http://www.btcpredictions.com (you can get a bit more background about me in the "about" section). Some of you may have seen the site already. The site has been up since mid March this year and it displays charts of data created by software I wrote. The software uses artificial neural networks to try to predict future bitcoin prices. Furthermore, there is a section which uses similar AI techniques to develop bitcoin trading strategies which, when tested on historic price data, seem to perform very well. I am currently working on improving these strategies in ways that will hopefully lower the degree of risk for investors.

Anyway, I am looking for people to help me out with expanding on this project. I have been working on it on my own since around October last year, and it is starting to get to the point where moving to the next level will require more than one person. Within the next month or so, I am hoping to find people to help me completely revamp the website, add some interesting features, and to help with moving forward in a few other ways that I have in mind, which can be discussed further if you should decide to contact me.

One interesting thing to note about this project in general is that the techniques being used here can apply to any commodity or investment for which you can access a decent amount of relevant data. The point is that the project is very expandable not only to other cryptocurrencies, but to stocks and any other commodities. It is even more expandable beyond this in ways that can be discussed further if you decide to contact me.

I am looking mostly for people near Boston right now. If you are interested, please send me an email at BTCPredictions@gmail.com. Tell me a bit about yourself and your background, and maybe we can meet up and grab a drink sometime Smiley.

tl;dr Looking for intelligent people in or near Boston to help me work on my website www.btcpredictions.com. I want to expand on the project in ways that require more than one person. Email me if you are interested in learning more. BTCPredictions@gmail.com
10  Economy / Speculation / Ideal buy/sell strategy for maximizing profit on: June 11, 2014, 08:34:34 PM
http://www.btcpredictions.com/BuySellIndicator.php

This is the beta version of a buy/sell strategy that I've been working on. You can sign up and see the buy/sell prices that it sets for free. The prices are updated every hour.

This system uses a neural network to predict the highest and lowest bitcon price over the next 24 hours, and these values are mainly what is used to determine the buy/sell values. Testing this strategy on historic data yielded an average profit of about +29% per month, which is 2-3 times as much as buying and holding.

Sometimes it does lose money. Of the 31 30-day periods tested, it lost money during 9, broke even during 5, and gained money during the other 17. However keep in mind that this is still all predictive, so there is no guarantee of anything.

This data is available free for now, but there may be a small monthly fee in the future. Also remember that this is the beta version. I haven't tested the site's functionality much yet and I'm still pretty new to web design, so there may be some errors.
11  Bitcoin / Project Development / Potential Service - Artificial Intelligence System to Help Investors on: June 04, 2014, 08:14:17 PM
TL;DR - at bottom

Hey guys, I'm posting this because I want to try to gauge how much interest there would be in a project like this before I proceed further in developing it.

I have recently been working on software that uses artificial neural networks to predict the ideal buy and sell prices to set for bitcoin in order to maximize profit. When testing it on historic bitcoin price data over the past (about) 3.5 years, simulating buying/selling according to the prices set by the neural network, it earns about 6 times as much money as just buying and holding bitcoins assuming no transaction fees. With transaction fees, depending on the fee, it earns about 2-2.5 times as much money as the buy/hold strategy. Basically, starting with $100 if it buys and holds it earns about $10,000 and if it trades using the neural network it earns a bit over $20,000.

I am considering setting up a website (and possibly an app eventually too) where you can register and pay a monthly fee (like $10 ish maybe) to have access to the buy and sell prices. They would be updated every 4 hours (since that is what has yielded the most profit in testing so far). You would also have the option of linking the system to an account you have (not sure if I'll do btc-e, bitstamp, or both) and having it trade for you. You would, of course, be able to override the buy and sell prices.

I also plan to include data from twitter on the page, calculating a single, simple numeric representation of the "sentiment" of bitcoin at the moment (like maybe a number from 1 to 100). I haven't really begun this yet, but the system will gather data from twitter related to bitcoin and calculate a sentiment based on the number of various words found and the number of followers/tweets/favorites/retweets of the people who tweet these words. This sentiment data would, of course, be helpful in deciding whether or not you would like to override the neural network's buy/sell prices.

Anyway I just wanted to post this and see if this is a service people would be interested in. I'm very open to your thoughts and opinions on this project, as well as any suggestions you guys might have.

TL;DR -
Working on a service which uses artificial intelligence techniques to set ideal buy/sell prices - testing so far yields double the profit of buying and holding over the past ~3.5 years. Thinking of making a paid service which would give you access to this data as well as the ability to have it automatically trade bitcoin for you. May also include market "sentiment" data from twitter.
12  Economy / Speculation / Beta version of new Bitcoin price prediction model! on: June 02, 2014, 03:48:37 AM
Hey guys, a lot of you have probably seen my website (www.btcpredictions.com) which displays data produced by software that I wrote that uses artificial neural networks to try to predict bitcoin prices. The 24 hour prediction performs reasonably most of the time, poorly sometimes, but also very well other times. I am still working on improving the algorithm/model.

Anyway, just earlier today I put up the beta version of the 2nd version of this bitcoin predictor. The predictions are much more precise (predicts price over every 15 minute period instead of 1 hour like the old one) and predictions are updated every 5 minutes! You can see the predictions here: http://www.BTCPredictions.com/NewPredictor.php

I'm haven't tested the accuracy of this model yet and I'm going to be tracking it over the next few days - maybe a bit longer depending on how things go. For those of you who are interested, please feel free to follow the predictions and track its accuracy yourselves! I think that it will end up being more accurate than the older predictions, but if it is not I will go back and do some more work to see if I can improve on it some more.

Right now it's predicting prices to peak tomorrow morning around 10:30ish EST. We'll see what happens!
13  Economy / Speculation / $620 - time to buy? on: June 01, 2014, 06:57:04 PM
The price seems to have dropped steeply all of a sudden from about $675 to $620. I'm thinking of picking up some more btc, I feel like it will inevitably go back up again. What do you guys think?
14  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin Price over next 24 hours (5/26/14 at 2:00pm EST) on: May 26, 2014, 06:05:46 PM
What do you guys think will happen to bitcoin price over the next 24 hours? I tend to think that the price is going to peek up above 600 and maybe fall back down to upper 500s a bit, but all of the technical analysis that I'm doing seems to indicate the opposite (going down to about $560).

A lot of you guys have seen my website (www.btcpredictions.com) where I use neural networks to try to predict bitcoin prices. I've been testing an improved version with an average error of 0.7395%, and both versions seem to believe that the price will fall to $560s. Even the longer term predictions are showing the price going down. Despite all of this, however, I still believe that the technical analysis is wrong. I think we will see prices rise.

I had my new NN make predictions for the average price over every 15 minute period for 24 hours starting at 1pm EST (a bit over an hour ago). I will post these below here.

But anyway what do you guys think will happen?
15  Economy / Service Announcements / Official BTCPredictions Thread - Neural Networks for Price Prediction on: May 05, 2014, 11:04:49 PM
Hello! I am going to use this as the official thread for a project that I've posted here before so that I don't have to make a new thread every time there is an update Smiley

http://www.btcpredictions.com

This is a website that shows predicted bitcoin prices for the next 24 hours, 5 days, and 20 days. The predictions are made by software that uses artificial neural networks to analyze past prices, and the data is updated on the website every hour!

I recently added a feature that allows you to view past predictions against actual prices, and I've just expanded a bit on that feature by allowing you to navigate through those charts hour by hour. Here is the link:

http://www.btcpredictions.com/Historic.php

The default chart shows the prediction made 24 hours ago against the actual prices over the past 24 hours. You can press the back and forward buttons to go back/forth one hour at a time and see the different predictions made! Let me know if you guys have any suggestions, I was thinking it might be helpful to put the date you are currently looking at on the page but I haven't gotten around to that yet.
16  Economy / Speculation / Charts Showing Software-Generated Predictions vs Actual Prices on: April 22, 2014, 03:55:33 AM
Hey guys,

Many of you have seen my project before, which involves using neural networks to try to predict bitcoin prices. Predictions are displayed online and updated every hour automatically:

www.btcpredictions.com

A lot of people were asking for charts showing historic predictions vs actual prices. I've been working on this but it has been going slow because 1, I am new to web development and 2, I have a lot of school work/job hunting work. Anyway, I'm almost done and there will be a page up soon where you can browse through past predictions from various points in the history of this website. Here is a photo of a prediction made at 11pm EST 4/20 versus the actual prices over the next 24 hours:

https://twitter.com/BTC_Predictions/status/458452050561355778

I know it doesn't have labels on the bottom or anything yet, I'm still working on it. I will also have it display the error at every point instead of the price. And I'm definitely going to change the line/dot colors lol

If you guys have any suggestions I'd be happy to hear them!

P.S. I had been posting on the account K128kevin before but apparently somebody hacked that account :/
