While I heard the question often until recently, there are more and more btcoin-friendly merchants every day.

I just bought a watch from a well known russian watch manufacturer who has started accepting bitcoin payments in July.
The delivery took a little while (two weeks from Moscow to Paris) but turned out to be flawless with tracking number and all.

The web shop displays the bitcoin logo on its home page.

For the record, I paid 3.67 Bitcoins, shipping included, on Juy 11 (tx id = 0d2c57fd151368fb56266be480df8a399ebb5f50625d3f7fccef8ceb4abb40bf )

As long as other online watch retailers are NOT accepting Bitcoins, I'll probably stick to Raketa watch only.

I cross post from the 0.8.3 release thread because I got not answer there: my question maybe not specific to this new release.

My understanding is that the "sendmany" command will only accept transactions of a certain minimal amount to mitigate the risk of spamming the network.
I had the "Too small amount" error on amounts like 0.00001 BTC.
What is the actual limit in this new version?

Dear Instawallet users,

I am a co-founder of Paymium, the company behind Instawallet.

We have now finished our analysis of the events that lead to the suspension of the service.
An intruder was able to access the instawallet database. As a result, all "hidden" urls, i.e wallets, have been compromised and are no longer safe to store bitcoins.
Funds were stolen: a police report was filed by Paymium with BEFTI ( Brigade d’Enquêtes sur les Fraudes aux Technologies de l’Information, a unit of the French "Police Judiciaire") and an investigation is in progress.
Computer forensic analysis is in progress with independent auditors.
We will be able to refund all instawallet balances up to 50 BTC per wallet.
In the next few days we are going to open the claim process for Instawallet balance holders to claim the funds they had stored before the service interruption.

Important information on claims submission:

1. For the first 90 days we will accept claims for individual Instawallets. Your wallet's URL and key will be used to pre-populate a form to file the claim.

2. After 90 days, if no other claim has been received for the same url, your Instawallet balance under 50 BTC will be refunded.
If several claims have been filed for the same url, we will process those claims on a case by case basis, under the presumption that the claim we received first belongs to the legitimate balance holder.

3. Claims for wallets that hold a balance greater than 50 BTC will be processed on a case by case and best efforts basis.
The number of such wallets represents less than 0.5% of the number of funded wallets in our records.
In other words, 99.5% of instawallets will be fully refunded.

If you file a claim with Paymium, please do not contact us regarding your claim until the 90-day period has elapsed.
We will need to wait the end of the period to send the refunds as some people might have forgotten about their instawallet and need time to retrieve it.

EDIT:
The reason some of you have not seen their payout is simply that they did not approve the proposed payout.
We need discharge from the people we pay out otherwise there is no way to remove the liability from our books.
The discharge is required also because the database might have been tampered with: even though it may be minimal and partial, there is a non zero probability that the proposed amount does not match the expected amount.
Payouts may be approved until the end of the year. Unapproved payouts will be considered as donations after the end of the year.
A sendmany transaction will be sent  in January 2014 to those who filed a claim on time but failed to approve their payout so far.

Aside from the excellent and timely report by Bitcoin Magazine below, does anyone have anymore info about this hack ?

Bitfloor, the fourth largest exchange dealing in US dollars, has just announced[1] that it has been hacked, and the service has taken a loss of 24,000 BTC, worth about $250,000 at the time of the theft. As Roman Shtylman, the founder of Bitfloor, describes it, “last night, a few of our servers were compromised. As a result, the attacker gained accesses to an unencrypted backup of the wallet keys (the actual keys live in an encrypted area). Using these keys they were able to transfer the coins. This attack took the vast majority of the coins BitFloor was holding on hand.” As a result, BitFloor has paused all exchange operations and, depending on the effect that this will have on BitFloor’s finances, BitFloor may take one of two options. They may either take the loss and continue running in an attempt to eventually earn the money back or, in the worst case, shut down entirely and begin an account partial refund process out of the available funds.

The unencrypted backup that allowed the thief to carry out the attack was made when Shtylman made a manual upgrade earlier and put the data into an unencrypted partition on his disk; Shtylman has so far declined to comment further on the details of the attack, saying that “my current focus is on the future and not the past.” As Bitcoin security experts point out, Bitfloor made not one but two errors that were both necessary to lead to such a severe loss; the first, leaving data stored unencrypted, was an honest and perhaps unavoidable mistake, but it would not have had nearly as much of an effect if there had not also been the second error of leaving so much money in an online-accessible “hot wallet”. Since the Bitcoinica Linode theft, in which an unknown attacker made off with $222,000 worth of bitcoins from Bitcoinica’s hot wallet in March, it has been generally understood that any Bitcoin-holding service should keep the vast majority of its funds in “cold storage”, a term referring to a setup where the private keys never touch any computer that is accessible from the internet.

This questions has been debated in other threads but as it comes up frequently with people recently introduced to bitcoin, I find it useful to gather answers here.

The value of bitcoin stems from scarcity and usefulness. Scarcity is set form the word go (21 million) and hoarding just increases the perceived scarcity.
Now does hoarding hurt the usefulness of bitcoin ?

Bitcoins are useful to transfer value from A to B over the internet.
To transfer value requires a certain amount of bitcoins, corresponding to a price denominated in central money.

Let's say a buyer wants to purchase a 10-dollar item using the bitcoin network. He/she buys 10 dollar worth of bitcoin, say 1 bitcoin for simplicity, from a bitcoin payment processor that will send it to the seller. The seller in turn may want to cash out the bitcoin for 10 dollars after x number of confirmations i.e x times 10 minutes.
The processing of the transaction has created a demand for 1 bitcoin for x times ten minutes.
The more transactions are processed using bitcoins, the higher the demand for bitcoins.

Therefore hoarding has no effect on the ability of the bitcoin network to process transactions: volatility does. If the exchange rate varies wildly in a 10-minute interval, then the payment processor cost of hedging the exchange rate risk goes up. The payment processor passes the cost of hedging in fees applied to the sellers: the cost of accepting payments through the bitcoin network goes up.

In the end, if the hedging fees become higher than the bank card fees, then the seller may end up refusing payments through the bitcoin network. However the likelihood of the bitcoin volatility becoming so high is rather thin: even with the small volume and active speculation that we experience today, the volatility is perfectly manageable over a period of 1-hour (6 confirmations) with fees far more attractive than the bank card fees.

Après avoir forcé 400 millions de clients à enregistrer leur cartes de crédit chez eux (sinon ils ne peuvent pas utiliser leur iphone sans restrictions), les managers d’Apple ont maitenant décidé de barrer la route à leurs concurrents dans l’appstore: le lancement de Passbook avec iOS 6 s'est accompagné de l’éviction, sans cérémonie, de Blockchain Wallet, BitPak et FriendlyPay ("notre" client léger basé sur instawallet: instawallet mobile reste disponible sur Google Play pour les mobiles android).

D’autres applications bitcoin semblent avoir échappé aux fourches caudines d’Apple car elle ne permettent pas d’envoyer ni de recevoir des bitcoins.
Ces mesures coercitives s’apparentent à une ligne Maginot dressée par Apple puis que les iphones déverouillés par Jailbreak peuvent télécharger Blockchain Wallet et, surtout, Apple ne fait qu’augmenter la demande pour des applications web «out-of-store» à base de HTML 5, optimisées pour les mobiles.
La coercition imposée par Apple n’a pas non plus de fondations juridiques.
Le téléphone mobile est un monopole local, dans la poche de l’utilisateur, il n’y a pas de place pour deux.
C’est son seul moyen d’accès aux applications en mobilité.

Apple invoque ses «guidelines» en anglais:
“apps must comply with all legal requirements in any location where they are made available to users.” tout en déclarant que «c’est l’obligation du développeur de comprendre et de se conformer à toutes les législations locales».

C’est donc le développeur indépendant, souvent sans moyens, qui doit investir son temps dans le développement d’une application utilisant une technologie propriétaire d’Apple, espérer que Apple ne décide pas de supprimer l’application et, si Apple le fait, doit chercher lui-même la justification juridique d’une décision prise par Apple !

Aucune loi n’interdisant l’échange de bitcoins en France (et pour cause: la possibilité de faire du troc est inscrite dans le code civil depuis deux siècles) , nous sommes clairement devant une pratique anti-concurrentielle.

Un logiciel libre aussi performant que bitcoin est une gêne potentielle pour les opportunités de partenariats stratégiques que Apple souhaite conserver vis à vis de Mastercard, Visa, les banques, Square, iZettle, etc , pour nous imposer des moyens de paiement coûteux pour les marchands, basés invariablement sur la sacro-sainte carte bancaire.

Apple veut faire du paiement mobile en un clic (c’est à dire avec enregistrement de vos données bancaires par Apple) un argument de vente pour ses iphones: pas question pour Apple que le paiement mobile universel devienne facile pour tout le monde grâce à bitcoin..
