22  Economy / Speculation / [POLL] To what level does price need to fall before we reach consensus? on: January 16, 2016, 09:53:50 AM
At what price level will the people involved start to be really scared about Bitcoin going bust and leave their egos and greed aside (at least for the time being) and come up with an agreement regarding block size?

26  Economy / Speculation / BIG bullish indicator as we enter 2016... on: December 23, 2015, 08:17:04 AM
Difficulty reached a new high with biggest ever increase. Bitcoin price can only go in one direction in the medium term.

27  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Blocksize needs to be increased now. on: December 13, 2015, 07:11:05 AM
We are reaching the blocksize limit fast and delays in confirming transactions with standards fees is becoming noticeable. A consensus needs to be found quickly otherwise Bitcoin is going to choke in unconfirmed transactions soon.

28  Local / Off-Topic (Italiano) / La voluntary disclosure. Un vero affare per gli evasori. on: December 10, 2015, 07:22:42 AM
Ecco quanto riportato dal Sole 24 Ore.

http://www.ilsole24ore.com/art/norme-e-tributi/2015-12-09/fisco-38-miliardi-gettito-regolarizzazione-capitali-all-estero--163205.shtml

60 miliardi su circa 130.000 istanze fa qualcosa come 460.000 EUR in media a testa diciamo.

30  Economy / Speculation / Roughly 8 months to go before the next having. What will the impact on price be? on: December 01, 2015, 09:36:17 AM
According to: http://www.bitcoinblockhalf.com/ the next Bitcoin halving event will happen in the second half of July 2016.
On that date supply of new coins will be reduced by 50% and consequently price should go up.
What are your expectations?

38  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Stress test is underway - Watch your fees. on: September 10, 2015, 04:56:05 PM
As announced CoinWallet has started spamming the blockchain.
The backlog of unconfirmed transactions is know at 10 MB (ca 2 hours) and growing.
To get your transactions confirmed in a decent amount of time make sure to include an
appropriate fee.
CoinWallet disclosed target is to create a 1 month (720 hours) backlog.

39  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / BIP101 and 8GB blocks by 2036 on: August 25, 2015, 06:30:30 AM
I would like to focus for a moment on the future implications of BIP101 which in addition to an immediate x8 fold increase by Jan 2016 also mandates a doubling of the maximum block size roughly every 2 years taking it to 8 GB blocks by 2036. The argument of BIP101 proponents is that increases in broadband and storage capacity will compensate for this additional full node workload. Is this a realistic assumption to make for every current a future node?

If BIP101 is implemented it is going to be a huge gamble for Bitcoin. Putting a high strain on the network will certainly mean that the lower end hardware running on low speed connections will have to drop off the network. Only nodes running mid to high end hardware on fast connections will be able to keep up. Up to which point will increase in transactions and block size will promote full node concentration? I don't have an answer and I haven't seen any study that attempts to model that. One thing is certain though. Centralization and concentration of power can only harm a cryptocurrency whose value is driven by the breadth and strength of the people accepting it as a currency (a.k.a. community).

Personally I see block size increase as something potentially unavoidable in the not so distant future but it should be done with a more gradual and conservative approach taking into consideration that Bitcoin is a complex system and any significant change carry a degree of risk and uncertainty. The more radical the changes the bigger the risk and uncertainty. Coincidentally enough bitcoin price is hitting a 6 month low right now as the global financial markets are taking a hit. Bitcoin price should be surging right now not plunging.
40  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin and crypto-assets in the post-quantum world. on: August 22, 2015, 07:48:40 AM
https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2015/08/nsa_plans_for_a.html

Interesting read by Bruce Schneier suggesting that quantum computers capable of breaking modern cryptographic algorithms could come online much sooner that expected.
In the list of vulnerable algorithms Schneier includes elliptic curve which as we know is the one used by Bitcoin (and many other cryptocurrencies) to sign transaction.
Based on the ongoing block size war I'm not sure that Bitcoin's community could effectively fend from this incoming threat. The task of agreeing on and implementing a quantum resistant digital signature algorithm for Bitcoin is certainly a much bigger challenge that agreeing on block sizes.
Can Bitcoin survive in the post-quantum era? How?
