161  Bitcoin / Press / [2015-05-25] Bitcoin in Vietnam - Part 1 on: May 25, 2015, 04:50:06 PM
http://www.loa.fm/2015/05/25/ep-5/

It's part 1 of a 2 part series about Bitcoin adoption in Vietnam. It also explain the environment and lingo used in the area. It's a non-native speaker and a interesting topic.

We tend to concentrate on South American and African development for Bitcoin, and forget about places like Vietnam.

Hope you enjoy this....
162  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Will Streamium be the killer Bitcoin App? on: May 25, 2015, 03:48:10 PM
I just wonder what the Killer App for Bitcoin would be, and if you think Streamium.io could be THE App that push Bitcoin mainstream?

It has the potential to be big, but it's still in beta and full of bugs.

It also has the potential to be used for major exploitation and this is something that would bring bad press for Bitcoin.

Do you think a monetized, decentralized service for video streaming, would be a good or a bad thing for Bitcoin?

We have already seen amateur voyeurism being done on this service and it could be used for more explicit or illegal porn streaming.

Let's discuss.  Huh
163  Economy / Economics / Tax & Hoarded / Hodl Coins on: May 14, 2015, 08:03:09 AM
In my country, I only get taxed on something where I have received financial gain.

Let's say, I work online and I get paid, I have to declare that income and I get taxed on it... and when I buy something and I sell it for a profit, I pay capital gains tax on it, for the profit portion on it.

Now let's take Satoshi's 1 000 000 coins as a example. {He/she has not received ANY financial gain from it, but he/she has 1 000 000 coins with a crazy value}

If he/she lost the private key, or if he/she simply never sell them, could he/she be liable for the financial value of those coins regarding the tax? {That is to say, if he/she come forward}

Let's say, he/she spends only 1000 coins, would he/she be taxed on the profit part of those 1000 coins only?

We pay monthly municiple property tax, based on the size and value of the plot and house we own... could the IRS not make the same ruling for Bitcoin owners?

Let's see what you think...  Wink

164  Economy / Economics / Russia / China Ban and strict US Regulations - Impact on: May 03, 2015, 03:44:02 PM
We have seen some of the bigger countries turning their back on Crypto currencies.

How will a complete Bitcoin ban by China / Russia and very strict regulations in the USA impact the viability and existence of Crypto currencies?

These are some of the biggest economies in the world and their exclusion will have a huge impact?

Do you feel the remaining countries could make it viable?
165  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What happens with Coin collectors and people into Numismatics? on: April 18, 2015, 10:37:58 AM
I was just thinking about this today...

There are so many people employed in Numismatics. { http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numismatics } and we also have many hobbyists, who collects coins.

When digital currencies take over from physical fiat currencies... {eventually they will... minting is just too expensive} ... What will these industries do?

How do they adapt?

There are other industries like this, who are going the same route ...example being the printing press... and Digital media.

It is kind of sad, to think about the legacy of these fiat currencies and what the new technology might be destroying.  Sad
166  Economy / Economics / Investment Banker - Bitcoin is not a "real" currency ;-> on: April 05, 2015, 07:55:19 PM
I had a most interesting discussion with a investment banker today.

I asked him the question... "Do you see Bitcoin as a disruptive technology or a threat to the traditional banking system"

His answer {Most arrogantly} ....We do not consider Bitcoin as a "real" currency.  Shocked

I then asked him to define a currency in his opinion ...and he said ..." a system of money in general use in a particular country "

I then told him...Bitcoin is a global currency... He then replied.. "But nobody use it"  Grin Grin

They are clearly in the "Let's ignore it" phase of the disruption cycle... When they wake up... it will be to late to change.  Grin
167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Candid Camera joke with Bitcoin ;-? on: March 27, 2015, 05:47:41 AM
Candid Camera are back on TV with a brand new series. In Season 1 on the 2cnd episode they catch people with a prank linked to Bitcoin.

The merchant give change to customers with a single physical coin and have them clueless on what to do with it.

Most people says "Yes, I have heard about Bitcoin, but I do not know how it works" ..... We can make different conclusions on what this type of exposure to "Bitcoin" would create.

1. The viewer might think... Bitcoin is a physical coin.
2. Bitcoin is fake / joke / Monopoly money
3. They might think... Well, I also know very little about Bitcoin... let me find out more.
4. In one segment the lady says.... "Who accepts this Bitcoin?" and the response... "We are the only shop so far" ...

This show is US based, and I was amazed that so many people know nothing about Bitcoin..... Are we doing enough to educate people about Bitcoin?
168  Economy / Service Discussion / Protonmail accepts Bitcoin - Keep your email private ;-> on: March 18, 2015, 05:55:56 AM
Protonmail is an email provider that attempts to keep your email private. They are based in Switzerland and do not have to adhere to disclosure laws like the other service providers based in other countries. {They have their own laws}

They are accepting donations to expand and grow their services to accept more accounts in future.

https://blockchain.info/address/1Q1nhq1NbxPYAbw1BppwKbCqg58ZqMb9A8?filter=2

https://protonmail.ch/

They have reached capacity but donations will keep them going to protect your email privacy.

If you know of any other email service providers with this goal, please share with us.

If they accept Bitcoin donations, we will support them, because our privacy is important to us.
169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Average Age for Bitcoin/Crypto currency users on: February 26, 2015, 06:36:36 AM
I know most people would say.... Bitcoin is used by ALL ages.. but I would like to test the statement with a small poll.

We have seen the result of the latest http://www.reddit.com/r/millionairemakers/ ... GumMice a 16 year old and that made me think...

What % of people from the different age groups are using Crypto currencies?

1. How many children are using Bitcoin?
2. Are we unintentionaly excluding some people from adopting Bitcoin/Crypto?
3. What is the legal implications?
3. What is the ethical implications? {Minors/gambling/Ponzi schemes}
4. Do we have more young people using it, than the older generation?
5. Do older people find it too complex?
6. Who should be the target market for faster mass adoption?

We want EVERYONE to use Bitcoin/Crypto but are we approaching the correct age groups and are we explaining it in the right manner, with that in mind?

I have met 10 year old's with more creativity and drive than most 20 to 60 year old people on this forum... Who are We?

Age makes no difference.. I know... but people need to keep it in mind, when they create services or Apps or when they explain Bitcoin to newcomers.  Wink

So let's see what you think.
170  Economy / Service Discussion / Coinbase - Regulated & Licenced US Bitcoin exchange - Good or Bad? on: January 27, 2015, 07:17:35 AM
We have all seen the news, about Coinbase being the first regulated and licensed US Bitcoin exchange.

People are devided into different groups, when this is discussed :

1. People who says, it's a huge move for Mass adoption.
2. People who says, it's a blow for Bitcoin/crypto currency privacy.
3. People who says, "Bring it on, it will open up new legitimate channels for new buyers"
4. People who says, "They bring nothing new, we need a decentralized exchange"

Where do you stand on this issue, and what do you think would be the 100% solution to all exchange issues, to prevent another MtGox fiasco?
171  Bitcoin / Press / [2015-01-17] Research: Hackers Could Install Backdoor in Bitcoin Cold Storage on: January 17, 2015, 09:08:23 AM
So the r-value still an exploit.... and it seems as though there is a assault on cold storage now.

Hmmmmmmm - Should not work, if you do not use your paper wallets...  Wink
172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Who says Bitcoin is perfect? Well it's better than the rest! on: January 06, 2015, 07:39:16 AM
Bitcoin has been attacked from all sides and people has been looking for ways to discredit it.

Have a look at these statistics for Australia for 2014 and consider if you agree with them.

http://www.apca.com.au/payment-statistics/fraud-statistics/2014-financial-year

Yes, Bitcoin is not perfect, but it's doing a damn fine job for being a currency.  Wink
173  Other / Beginners & Help / 777Bitco.in faucet turned scam - Notice on: December 17, 2014, 06:29:28 AM
Just a warning to beginners - Do not support this site, they will not pay you.

Also see this thread, of other people complaining,  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=829599.new#new

They take all the advertisement income and pay nothing back to the people, who support them.

Your withdraw will go to a pending status, and you never get a confirmation email. {They try to stall, by saying their email system is faulty}

If I was the only one, I would not have bothered, but there are lots of people complaining and I have more than one payment pending.

Do not fall for the default response. "Check your spam folder"  Wink

174  Other / Beginners & Help / Can Faucets make a difference? - Pay it forward! on: October 28, 2014, 10:01:16 AM
I have discussed this on another forum and would like it if someone could incorporate this option in their faucet.

Use your faucet to make a difference

Why not incorporate something good within a faucet. {This can be anything - Poverty elleviation / Animal cruelty .....}

You use these faucets to help someone else. { A small portion of your income goes towards a good cause, say 5% of each withdraw }

This can be voluntary or compulsory, you choose, when you setup your profile/faucet. {Take away only 5% from the referral commissions towards this}

Give the users a drop down menu to choose to which charity/cause they want to donate too.

Many people do not use faucets, because it's a waste of time, BUT if you know a small portion of that time/income goes towards something good, you might consider using it.

So we crowdfunding donations to good causes, using faucets.

Freebitco.in
28 Oct 2014
WON BY USERS
2,355.24829985 BTC {5% of this is +/- 117 Bitcoins}

*Imagine if 5% of that was paid out to some good cause? { 117 Bitcoins can make a difference }
* I can already see this in the press - Bitcoin faucet donated $50 000 towards SPCA {Insert your charity or cause here}

Pay it forward

My goals for this is ambitious, but I have learned, the small things make a huge difference, when a lot of people are doing it.

Edit : Removed the site link, because some people might think, I want to promote something and I don't ..just posted it, because I created the idea there first, and it had a lot more information and meat. Hope everyone is satisfied.
175  Bitcoin / Press / [2014-10-08] Here comes the internet of money - MoneyWeb on: October 08, 2014, 04:44:41 PM

http://www.msn.com/en-za/news/news/here-comes-the-internet-of-money/ar-BB85cse

They looking at the adoption of BTC in Africa, not the worldwide adoption of the currency.

Should we enlighten them to the real facts? Comment on the site please, and set them straight.

Oh.. And M-pesa is based on BTC

177  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Zimbabwe needs bitcoin on: September 12, 2014, 01:35:06 PM
I saw today, a small country in Africa called, Zimbabwe had to sell shares, to pay $50 000 000 for coins to be manufactured and imported, because they running out of small change.

They had a inflation rate of 500 000 000 000% and are now using the US dollar.

They also paying people with "sweets" because they ran out of coins to pay people, in small change.

Their reserve bank told the press, that the freight cost, to get the coins to their country, cost more than the value of the coins. !!!!

BTC can solve this, because no paper or coins are needed.  Grin Grin Grin
178  Economy / Service Discussion / Poll : People without a signature campaign - Add your name here on: September 01, 2014, 06:37:24 AM

This is the 1st of September and all signature campaigns are already FULL.  Angry Sad

This will give advertisers an idea, of the scope of the potential for them to host a new campaign or for current campaign host to open up more slots.

So, if you are one of the unlucky people, please post here, saying the following - "Please add me to the list".

If you found something, just remember to come back to this thread, to update your status, and to be removed from the list.

179  Bitcoin / Project Development / [Request] QR Code converter to text for Windows on: August 25, 2014, 09:23:25 AM
Do anyone know of a program {Not cellphone} that can scan the QR code and convert it to text?

I have a project, where I need to scan lots of QR codes and I need to have the output directed to a text file. Most programs are cellphone based, and even those are giving me hassles. {Eg. i-Nigma}

If you know of something out there, that I may have missed for Windows, please reply to this post.  Sad

See [Request] in brackets, to not be confused, that this is a project being developed.
180  Bitcoin / Press / [2014-08-24] Stability and Taxes: Could Bitcoin Be a Replacement for Gold? on: August 24, 2014, 10:23:34 AM
http://www.coindesk.com/stability-taxes-bitcoin-replacement-gold/

Mr. anti-bitcoin is asking people to buy his gold.  Grin Grin Grin

I think some of us, must try to go to his office and ask him if we can touch the gold you have bought with them. You will be escorted out the building, for being crazy.

It's a myth ...The gold you invest in, is on paper. {For those people, who says - "At least I can touch the thing I invest in"

Go touch your paper wallet, it's way easier, than those pipe dreams you are believing in.
