People were on IRC talking about the rocket launch when someone joked about how much beer you could get into space in 6913 pounds of cargo.  I joked about how many bitcoins could fit (yea just the device that was kind of the joke) when it hit me.  How many miners could a rocket launch power?  So lets reverse that question.  How far could the power that all miners use get us.  It varies over time so lets just say 1 month of mining power into distance in one month.  Time is a factor since people would start using ion drives otherwise.

I was just reading another thread about cloud mining profitability when it hit me.  What is going to happen to all those cloud mining contracts at the halving?  If the price doesn't increase by then won't all the contracts just get canceled like ghash did when the price dropped?

Personally I don't use cloud mining but it's something to think about when helping new people.

It's getting to be that time of year where it's not worth running the heater but still a bit chilly so I'm thinking of firing up the old GPU as a space heater.  Haven't tried mining anything with GPU in a year.  Anything really worth mining these days?  Something I don't need to worry about mining 24/7 or have a wallet/node installed for.
