4  Other / Off-topic / Anyone have a linode referral code they would like me to use? on: July 21, 2013, 08:38:59 AM

5  Economy / Goods / Anyone into fancy cigars? on: June 07, 2013, 05:39:10 AM
I've got quite the humidor, and I like to start rotating my selection more so that I can try a wider variety of cigars. Seriously, there's like, thousands and thousands of options, and it'd bankrupt a pleb like me to even begin to try them all.

Is there any interest in mid-to-high quality cigars, either in singles, small bundles, or full boxes? I'd also be willing to do trades, splits and drop shipping/sale for BTC (with a 1 cigar tax on your box, of course :p ) with folks if they want to place orders for items I also want from reputable shops.

Here's a sampling of what the top layer of the current stash is holding (not gonna list the count and will just ballpark cut and body unless it's an easy one):

[PM for the current selection]

If you're seriously interested in doing some trading/purchasing/splits, PM me!
6  Economy / Goods / WTB: Fishing Gear (rods, reels, tackle, etc) on: April 25, 2013, 07:34:03 PM
You heard right! Mushroom season is running behind this year, so I'm fishing up a storm while I wait for the foraging to pick up. I try to fish every day, so I go through a lot of gear...Lemme know what you've got lying around and I'll make you an offer.

I am buying pretty much anything you'd use in freshwater, mainly gamefish, but I'm not averse to panfishing gear (think bass, walleye, northern pike, muskellunge, trout, blue/yellow/channel cats, alligator gar, etc.) I'm also very interested in snagging any antique rods, reels and tackle - especially tackle - you may have gathering dust in your basement. Turn your garbage into that cash money, homies!

Looking for:
quality baitcasting reels
rods of mid to high quality, any length, size, and cut (currently really looking for a 2 or 3pc med-heavy around 7.5')
fly rods and reels (if you've got a #5 or so pack fly rod that breaks down shorter than 24", you can have your way with me!)
plastics
Rapalas
spinnerbaits
panfish lures
hand tied flies
topwater poppers and frogs
trot and jug-line tackle
throw nets
Vexilar
snagless/drag weights

8  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Thermaltake 1350w PSU troubles... on: February 21, 2012, 01:41:37 AM
I tried to pop my 1350w PSU into a rig and now the computer won't boot. It was working when I boxed it up, and hasn't been subject to any drops or anything other than sitting. When I short the green and black leads, the fan fires up, and when I have it installed, it is supplying power to at least the mobo, as some LEDs light up when I hit the soft-touch power switch on the mobo. When I hooked up my Antec 750w that was originally on the system, everything works fine.

Anyone have ideas as to how I can troubleshoot it, or should I just RMA it? It weighs a ton, so I'd like to avoid shipping it if possible, and I just can't imagine how it broke itself sitting in a closet. I don't have another system to test it on right now, but I can't imagine it would be any different if the original PSU is working fine.

TIA

9  Other / Off-topic / Electrical consumption on: January 21, 2012, 02:24:47 AM
So, everyone on here is always talking about popping circuits and gigantic electric bills. I figured you guys might get a kick out of my current project...

I am working on an indoor aquaponics operation, meaning we are farming fish and using the waste-water to supply nutrients to food crops. To begin, we are growing tilapia and focusing on fast-growing greens and herbs. Our initial setup will have 250 12-bulb T5 fixtures, plus all heating, pumps, aeration, ventilation and controller systems.

Just the lights will be 162000 watts. It's gonna be one hell of an electric bill.
10  Other / Off-topic / Blockchain woes... on: January 17, 2012, 02:25:07 AM
I have always though people bitching about the large blockchain were being melodramatic...that was before my client bugged out and refused to work until I re-downloaded it. That was mid-day yesterday, and my connection usually runs about 30mbps average. Part of it is obviously my computer going to sleep and cutting off wireless, but christ almighty, this shit takes forever. I can see where it is a huge inconvenience.

Luckily, I had some old(er) coins on there that were confirmed and allowed me to complete the payment I needed to make, but as of yet, I am still not current.

TL;DR -
11  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Ain't that something... on: November 29, 2011, 11:59:09 PM
So, I stuck two MSI Twin-Frozr II 6870s in my main computer and ran them for about four months with the fan speed never rising above 90%. One of the cards started running really hot and I saw that one of the fans had seized up. Today, I pop my case open to shop-vac it out and see that the fan crapped out on the second card, and the remaining fan on the first one is stuttering.

What the fuck, MSI? Three out of four fans failing within six months? Out of curiosity, I played skyrim on one of them for about fifteen minutes till the frame rate started dropping...Afterburner say 117C...fuuuuuuu

13  Other / Off-topic / Advertising is cheap these days! on: November 06, 2011, 08:09:16 AM
I have gotten 32 of you bastids to click my ad on www.dailybitcoin.org. It's only ~.1%, I don't know how that rates to quality ads, but it's well worth it. 1btc = 80,000 impressions

I think I am gonna keep running pointless/joke/shill ads while the cost is so low. It's embarrassingly entertaining to watch the click counts rise and chuckle about how many people you got.
14  Economy / Goods / FS - 1350w PSU + 3xMSI6970 Reference on: October 29, 2011, 02:21:20 AM
Hey there. I am moving at the end of November and am trying to get rid of most of my stuff so I don't have to haul a trailer all the way across the country.

I am going to turn my btc rig into a computer for my parents, and they sure as hell don't need 3x6970s, so I've got a Thermaltake 80+Silver 1350w PSU and three MSI R6970s that I am getting rid of. I have done a fair amount of trading on the site here with good results, and I would rather have BTC than paypal dollars from ebay Sad.

I am asking the btc equivalent of $250 (shipped in US) on the PSU (91%+ efficiency ftw) and the btc equivalent of $250 (shipped in US) for each of the 6970s. All items have been well maintained and regularly shop-vacced and air-dusted. PM me with any questions.

Thanks for looking!

And for your enjoyment, here is a picture of my dog, currently confined to the cone of shame, and a gopher snake that I caught yesterday.

15  Other / Off-topic / Bitcoin got me some action... on: October 11, 2011, 11:12:27 PM
Alright, folks.

Shit's been boring aside from the SC2 clusterfuck, so I thought I would tell you about my hilarious experience this past weekend. It is a long story but will hopefully encourage you to rant about bitcoin to anyone that will listen.

A friend of mine that I hadn't seen in years invited me to a party a few weekends ago. She is a super-hipster-rich-white-city-girl, and I am a poor biologist who likes to sleep outside. She and her friends are all stockbrokers and lawyers and whatnot, and I am self-employed and stoned and shiftless. We have NO friends in common; I knew it was going to be an hilariously awkward party, so I decided to do it up proper. I like to cook, so I made baklava, both a regular batch and a 'medicated' batch. I am quite confident in my baking skills, and I know that if you make the most delicious thing at a potluck, you will have conversation all night. If you do that and give them a version that gets them stoned, people will love you.

So basically, I am at a party with a bunch of strangers that I bonded with by making them delicious deserts and then I find out that this beautiful blonde girl does something with programming and forex trading for some firm. I immediately ask her if she knows what bitcoin is, (no) and then proceed to babble on about it at length for a while, and she's seeming legitimately interested. So, we kind of end up off to the side conversing for a while, though it's definitely more me talking. I am never one to lay it on to thick so I just sort of drift back to the rest of the party, figuring I've got a new acquaintance at the very least.

Flash foward a couple hours and some beers: I am drunk and telling everyone about the gold prospecting expedition I will be going on the next morning (yeah, i pan gold). People are surprisingly interested when they find that you actually prospect, with sluices and classifying boxes and pans and whatnot, so I get on this big diatribe about how some of these banker kids are gonna have to invest my gold when I get rich with a find that trumps the comstock nugget. Girl starts telling me about how she really likes hiking and wants to find more spots nearby. I half jokingly suggest that she come panning the next morning but don't follow up at all.

Flash forward again: Girl is leaving the party and she comes and finds me and gets my number to tag along on the prospecting mission. I am pretty amazed, but figure she is just drunk and probably will flake out the next morning.

Upon getting home, I was racking my brain, trying to figure out why this beautiful rich blonde girl from the complete opposite side of the tracks would have ever given me the time of day and it comes to me...bitcoin. I ranted about bitcoin and some beautiful rich stockbroker from waaaaay out of my league asked for my number.

Next morning comes, I get a call bright and early from this chick; she wants to go panning. So, I round up my dog and sluice box and my prospecting gear, first aid kit, crevasse tools, pack-shovels, that kinda crap, and this chick meets me at my house and we leave from there. I was impressing her catching frogs and bugs and identifying plants and telling her about the life history of them and the geology of the area and whatnot and I think she came out of it thinking I was some sort of mountain man, which is far from the case, but I'll take it. The hike was fun, but awkward because we were just so friggin' different, and I decided that I would not embarrass myself by trying to pursue anything with her and just wrote off the possibility of touching it.

Then I get a call this past friday from this chick, saying she is all stressed out and needs to get out of the city and wants to know if I will take her hiking. I was 100% down, even with the awkwardness, because hiking with a beautiful girl beats hiking with my dog, but I had no intention of flirting. This was a complete 'friends' trip in my mind. Soooo, bringing it full circle, we go on a really epic hike and I end up railing this beautiful blonde stockbroker on top of a waterfall in the Sierras. Bam.

TL;DR - Bitcoin got me laid.

Fellow bitcoiners;

I don't often seek advice from the intertubes, but I figure with such an eclectic mix of people here, it's worth a shot.

I have been running a successful aquarium service that I started when I graduated from college with a degree in marine biology for a number of years, but with the shitty economy, things have gotten progressively harder to eke out a living, and I am wholly burnt on running a small business.

To top that off, I have now been crashed into four times in the last 18 months, the first being a drunk driver that fucked up my back and left me with no feeling in my right hand, and the last two being this past week. I do not want to be in Los Angeles for a minute longer.

I guess I am sort of hitting mid-life crisis at 27... I want to get the hell out of the US for a bit (or forever). I lived in Panama for a year and a half, learned a ton of spanish and loved it, but bumming around hostels and drinking like a fish is not what I am going for this time around.

Anyone have any tips on finding a job -preferably in biology or marine biology- overseas or in central or south america? I'd even freeze my ass off in canada...I just need to change it up. Thanks in advance.

Hey, sorry for the unsolicited PM but it's slightly urgent and I figured I'd randomly give a shot at seeing if someone would be able to help me out.

I need to make a payment for something but won't have more BTC's available until Monday. Would you be able to loan me 5BTC's? I would be willing to pay 20% interest on the loan and it would be repaid Monday. I will go by the last mtgox price to determine the $ amount and to figure out how much I would have to send back. Let me know if you can, it would be greatly appreciated.

If so, my BTC address is:

xxxxxxxxx

Thanks,
Justin

It is creepier than all hell...two chatbots antagonizing each other, and it then, of course, turns to religion.
