1  Other / Beginners & Help / Dual 6990 setup without needing monitor or dummy plug question on: August 12, 2011, 05:18:00 AM
Have had my rig setup for a number of months now,

grappled with freezing from log files overfilling to powersupply burnout in 14 days (buy a 1500 watt the first time).
Auto restart once a day etc.

Currently the monitor im using with it has 1 Dvi and 1 Vga , which works out perfect so the second card initialized (dummy plug issue).

Question:
1.  can i dummy plug both cards?

2. because the processor is only a single core (the second core would not unlock) but yet on 55 watts, remote desktop is ugly, especially obviously sending a nasty printscreen while grinding.  Any miners care to share their secret to no monitors?

3. for heat reasons the rig is away from the other computers, vga extension cable was having non of that.  Any suggestions at all as to how one could get both cards initialized, without needing a monitor plugged in?  How do other miners deal with hands off machines like this, command line only?

rig is windows 7 ultimate, but only because i cant find a proper linux driver to run the N wireless (ethernet not an option as to it being on a different floor) .

Ive seen similar posts but not really with 6990s and just fishing for some crazy answer or idea.  Spitballin here

Anyone notice that "bitcoin" gets flagged as an incorrectly spelled word when posting?

http://mansci.journal.informs.org/cgi/content/abstract/mnsc.1110.1365v1

Take a gander at this above abstract.

This article concludes "This suggests that bubbles are abated when traders know that a subset of them have an edge (in information) over others."   Fascinating findings, in light of the "stagnent" (SELLL!!!) or as I call, stable, bitcoin prices between 14-15$.

1 .  Bitcoin robberies of "large" sums (the alleged 25k btc from an unsecured wallet)

2 .  We get goxed

3.  a. Panic Ensues. Knowledge is now commonplace that these magical earliest of the earliest adopters exist, and have large sums of btc.
     b. Hackers exist, and know something the poor mtgox team does not about their own system. More knowledge
     c. More info that the "your account isnt hacked" accounts, were indeed hacked the week previous. HMMM
     d. Trade hill happens to open that week previous, and doesn't hesitate in sending emails with the leaked database, putting discounts up (that they can now cancel), and generally being shady. Compare and contrast.

4. The bitcoin bubble is popped.  And stays at 14 instead of crazy fluctuations daily.

Conclusion:  Everything is going better than expected.  Thanks... hackers?

4  Other / Beginners & Help / Thank You Forum - From The Depths of My Newly Paid Off Rig on: July 10, 2011, 11:32:07 PM
I have been mining for just about 4 months, before that I just played on gox.

Allow me to say to all the Vets:

Thank you so much, I have never posted.  I have never needed to.  Furious Logical truth from start to finish.  Its because of you all that I now have a dream computer payed off, and if I make money too, that's fine.

From all the lurkers out there, keep on posting.  Whenever something happens (and recently its been a string of bad), I come here.  Logic Prevails.
Many Many Thanks for all the guidance you didn't realize you were giving.

In honor of my quad core, crossfire 6990s, with 2x 1kw psu's being paid off, I am taking the day off from mining  (unless of course the average difficulty has a nice low-pull session) and installing Crysis.

Many Thanks to all you wonderful Vet Miners, and Tycho for making me computationally rich.

Long Live the Bitcoin   Cheesy
