1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What Cryptocurrency YouTubers do you follow? on: January 03, 2020, 11:43:59 AM

What are some of the best channels to follow?  The recent YouTube controversy brought our attention to a lot of new channels:
https://cointelegraph.com/news/cryptocurrency-influencers-speak-out-on-youtube-deleting-crypto-related-content

With that said, now we are trying to compile a list of the best in the industry as part of one of our new projects.

Often subscriber numbers, views and comments come from clickbate titles and people who have no knowledge of cryptocurrency before watching the video so it's not really a metric we can study to bring quality to the forefront.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Who are Bitcoin's Unsung Heroes? on: January 03, 2020, 10:51:10 AM
Everyone has heard of Satoshi, most have heard of Gavin Andresen. Jeff Garzik, Pieter Wuille and other early contributors are well known to the core community, but we're looking for other early contributors that have almost been forgotten about. From bug reports, to critical updates to community rallying that got Bitcoin in-front of the right eyes.

We are trying to compile a list of developers and community members that have contributed a lot to Bitcoin so we can integrate them into an upcoming project. In order to help with this we are making this thread to try and uncover some of the more hidden stories in the Bitcoin community, to help give the people behind them their place in history and the recognition they deserve.

No matter how small an action, it may have still had an impact equally as great.

The rules are simple:

  • Select someone who you feel needs acknowledgement for their early contributions
  • State why they stand out for you
  • The contributions should be dated before 2012

We especially want to know about them if they are developers that are not on our current list, compiled based on github contributions and early bug reports. However this list just goes of commit history, and fails to give credit to those behind the ideas, reports and smaller code contributions.

3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / [ARI][₳] Aricoin on: December 31, 2014, 01:55:51 PM

Aricoin is one of the oldest, true to source networks still (just about) running today. Aricoin is based on Litecoin v0.8.0 released in early 2013. Aricoin was originally launched as OlympicCoin (OLY) on Feb 7th, 2014 to celebrate the opening of the Sochi Winter Olympics. After the event, the original team later planned a rebranded with the help of an exchange in 2014 in order to facilitate development of our tipping platform that reached 100,000 signups, unfortunately the exchange partnership didn't work out due to an alleged hack and most of our users and original project developers lost everything. This is when Aricoin fell into the hands of the bitcointalk community (yes, that's you reading this so you're obligated to help)...

It's in this time of need, Aricoin is continuing that call to the bitcointalk community to help keep our network and development alive as one of the first 100 altcoins ever created, true to Satoshi's vision with a pure, clean code base much closer to the code Satoshi and Gavin created than the complex codebase of today.

If you're reading that means, dive into our GitHub, reach out to exchanges and see what you can do to help Aricoin get back on track!

 Aricoin Specifications:

The Aricoin network is currently being kept alive by psycodad on bitcointalk and his hard work setting up nodes and updating code to prevent exploits.

Original Aricoin thread:

Aricoin's 2014 Vision "Cryptocurrency is so powerful yet less than 0.01% of the population have ever used it. Why?"

It's too complicated! Aricoin is changing that by making cryptocurrency easy to understand. The only cryptocurrency with it's own currency symbol ₳ on every keyboard in the world! Hundreds of altcoins have been released that focus on protocol innovation, while we see this as a very important aspect in the evolution of crypto we feel the real priority lies in getting the general public and people outside the tech community using cryptocurrency.

The aim of Aricoin Project Supporters is to accomplish this as fast as possible. Non-tech savvy users don't need to know how things work behind the scenes. They simply need to know the benefits of cryptocurrency and that they are supporting a much fairer financial system.

AricoinPay does all the hard work and displays everything in an easy to understand manor.

Aricoin Innovations:

  • AricoinPay (BETA)

AricoinPay is an advance system similar to PayPal (without the negative side) that improves upon the Aricoin cryptocurrency experience by making it easy to use and understand. Our web API offers developers a way of integrating with cryptocurrency faster than ever before to push innovation to new heights.

    • Easy Access with Gift Cards

      • Gift cards can be made for any of our supported currencies and allow for much easier access to the cryptocurrency world without any fees. You can create and redeem gift cards in seconds with AricoinPay.

    • Tipping / MicroPayments

      • Users can show appreciation by tipping without worrying about processing fees. 1,000 users can tip $0.10 for a well written article that will generate the website owner $100. MicroPayments are impossible on any other payment service due to high processing fees. Tipping is just one example of an innovative use of our web API. You can place a script on your site that will generate a tip button for every page.

    • Easy Integration

      • You can accept Aricoin for every product on your site with just one line of code. As more developers join us we will grow to support a wide range of online shopping carts. For now payment buttons can be added sitewide with some coding or product payment pages can be created manually.

    • Local Currencies

      • To make it easier for users to understand we offer the ability to have prices around the site displayed in local currencies. We currently support displaying in ARI, USD, GBP, CNY, AUD, BRL, CAD, HKD, IDR, JPY, MXN, NZD, SGD, CHF.

    • No Transaction Fees

      • AricoinPay will always operate with zero transaction fees. We will be charging high volume merchants a small fee, but until then we are relying on donations sent to the Aricoin project.

    • No Chargebacks

      • Merchants have no risk of chargebacks or lost funds, every transaction on AricoinPay is final.

    • Advance Payments

      • AricoinPay supports recurring payments and gives the option to redirect to a custom URL after a purchase occurs. You pay users by email on AricoinPay, you don't need to remember a long complicated address. If the user hasn't got an account we create a gift card and email the user with a redeem link.

    • Anonymity

      • When an account is created on AricoinPay you are given an anonymous account tag. You can use this instead of your email to remain anonymous while receiving payments.

    • Send from Any Device

      • AricoinPay is web-based and optimised for most popular mobile and tablet devices. As long as you have an internet connection you can use Aricoin without any additional software. We are in the process of testing SMS payments for offline payment handling.

    • AricoinPay API

      • Our API provides access to the send, balance and transaction history features of AricoinPay. With an account secret key you can access any of these methods by sending a signed request to one of our API urls.

    • Instant Payment Notifications (IPNs)

      • You can configure a URL to be notified when a payment has been made to you. We ping this URL with data about the transaction so you can handle the customer.

Essentially Aricoin is an easy-to-use to use version of Bitcoin combined with the ease-of-use of a system like Paypal. To do this Aricoin created the AricoinPay platform on-top of the currency. AricoinPay functions exactly like PayPal, but instead of using Dollars, Pounds or Yen, it uses the Aricoin currency. Aricoin is introducing a set of cutting edge features that have never been seen before in the cryptocurrency world; payments by email, zero fees, optional anonymity, no sending or receiving limits and best of all a fully functional payment gateway for users to buy & sell products and services to the public.

The system is instant, that means it is faster than VISA, MASTERCARD or any other cryptocurrency. Aricoin allows customers and merchants to buy and sell from any device instantly and with zero fees. This opens up endless possibilities and brings payment processing into a new age. Aricoin will be constantly evolving over the next few months with new projects and features set for release to improve the platform.
