101  Economy / Speculation / What would happen to the price of bitcoin if it was declared illegal in the USA? on: August 07, 2012, 10:24:46 AM
I'm trying to decide if it would destroy bitcoin entirely, or make it even more valuable. any thoughts?
102  Economy / Speculation / rally got goxxed again on: July 23, 2012, 03:19:36 AM
nvm, it's back online now. There was some serious lag handling all those orders. Gox really needs an upgrade
103  Economy / Speculation / Silk Road growing and getting re-designed for the increase of new users. on: July 22, 2012, 07:19:46 AM
I think that silk road is one of the main things that back bitcoin. With these improvements and the influx of new users. I can see a rally soon.

Here's the announcement post:

Greetings everyone!  It has been some time since I have made an official announcement, and I am very pleased to be making this one today:  The look and feel of our beloved market will be transformed in just a few days time!

We have been working tirelessly to deploy many "behind the scenes" upgrades over the past few months that have vastly improved our security, flexibility and availability.  These advances aren't sexy, and don't get much fan fair, but hopefully you've noticed the site running smoothly even as our community grows.  This kind of work rarely get's acknowledged, so I would just like to applaud everyone on the Silk Road team that has put in the effort to make this possible.

But now, in just a few days, I will have the honor of rolling out a sleek new look that will be impossible to miss and I am sure you all will love.  I feel it matches the integrity and professionalism of our community and the robust technology that empowers it.  New comers will now have the confidence they need to take that leap of faith and make their first purchase.  My hope is that this day will be looked back on as one where we really came into our own and started a new chapter in our quest to stand up for our freedom and declare ownership of ourselves and our bodies.

So you aren't too surprised when the change comes next week, here's a little sneak peak at the new login screen:

Much love to you all,

105  Economy / Service Discussion / Can we get an ETA on when trading will resume? on: July 21, 2012, 07:41:45 AM
ATM all trading is frozen, and it happened during a huge rally Sad   i guess the order was too big to fill or something. I just want and ETA on when trading will resume because i have some orders that i would like to cancel, but i can't cancel them right now because MtGox won't let me. It's been almost 5 hours that trading has been frozen and still no word about what is going on. I just want to know if i should stay up and wait for trading to resume or if i should just go to sleep. I know its the weekend so Mark probably won't realize what is going on until monday.  If someone knows his phone number, plz call him and inform him of this issue. He probably doesn't check his mtgox e-mail on the weekends.
106  Economy / Speculation / How will this mtgox screw-up affect the price? on: July 21, 2012, 05:26:04 AM
I think it will make some big investors lose faith in bitcoin and there will be a massive dump as soon as they come online. I really don't want to stay up all night to wait for them to come online so i can sell all my coins Sad

any thoughts?

109  Other / Off-topic / the higgs boson on: July 04, 2012, 09:15:55 AM
http://webcast.web.cern.ch/webcast/play_higgs.html  i know i'm a little late on making this thread as the conference is over now because i was busy watching the whole thing. The conference revealed that many independent studies got a ~126GeV and 5 sigma result (1 in 3.5million chance of being wrong).  i know these are scientists so they claim that 1 in 3.5million is still inconclusive, but i think it's safe to say they found it.  This is HUGE news. I don't want to go into too much detail about how big of a deal this is, but this is going to make technology advance much faster and many other things. Do you think this could have any effect on the Bitcoin market? If so, what are your predictions and why?
