2  Other / Meta / Is the BitcoinTalkShow Dead? on: December 27, 2025, 01:08:35 AM
The Bitcointalk.org YouTube channel was a huge hit when it launched in 2021 with over 12k views on the first episode and 16k plus on the second episode. The show featured interesting past and live events on the forum including the famous Bitcointalk Community Awards. Who better to tell bitcointalk story than us. And with the increased misinformation, and scams in the crypto space, the BitcoinTalkShow could offer real discussion, historical context, and real discussion over influencers who just want to shill shitcoins.

Sadly the channel has been inactive since 2023 and has only 7 episodes. I get that the subscribers and views on the youtube channel doesn’t come close to matching half the amount of traffic the forum has. I wonder if that’s the reason why the project was abandoned. I’m curious to hear what you all think in the polls.

Bitcointalk is a museum rich with bitcoin history. Every year, the community creates new stories that will be read by future members, and continue to shape the bitcoin culture. So when next you make a post, remember you are not just talking to this community, but also to the next generation. A lot has happened this year, and I want to take our minds back to some of the forum events that made 2025 interesting. I selected topics for each month from mostly Reputation and Meta. 5  Economy / Gambling discussion / Celebrity Casino Winnings - Truth or Deception? on: November 06, 2025, 07:37:49 AM
I just saw a video of this popular Afrobeat artiste, he was talking about how we won over 290m with just 1m on a bet from an online casino. Two hundred and ninety million naira!

The whole thing sounded too good to be true and my inner Sherlock was dying to know the truth. So I decided to google the brand ambassadors of the casino and guess who’s their new brand ambassador? Yes. Yours truly, the one and only 298 million naira winner himself.

Now the big question: Are these big celebrity wins genuine or they are just a form of promotions to attract new players to the casino?

I see this form of advertising as unethical and deceptive. It kinda destroys the trust the player has in the casino and the celebrity. Would you trust a casino that lures players in with the false hope of winning big?

6  Other / Meta / SatoPrincess merit source application on: June 17, 2025, 01:38:15 PM
Hi BTT, I’m writing to apply to be merit source for the gambling board. I have been an active member of the forum since September 2021, and this online community has become a part of my life. I’m a bitcoin enthusiast, and love to see people use bitcoin in their everyday life. I’m also a frequent poster in gambling boards and in the Nigerian local board. I organized the Post Quality Review [Monthly BTC Reward] for my local board to encourage quality posts. We recently had some merit sources approved in my local board, so I will focus most of my attention in the Gambling board.

The gambling board is seen by many members as a “no-good” section of the forum or as a spam board. I want to change the narrative and do my best to improve the gambling section of the forum. I recognize that other members are doing their part to reduce the amount of spam by opening self moderated threads. I have over 700 good reports across different boards of the forum and  I believe that rewarding meaningful discussion with merits will surely increase the post quality of the gambling board.

There are good and interesting topics in the gambling board, and I find many of the members I interact with there are very passionate about what they post but according to Ddmrddmr’s merit dashboard the gambling section is one of the least sections of the forum where merit is distributed.

If I am made a merit source for the board, I believe more members will give more thought to their posts in this section because the gambling board will be a place where they can improve their account rank not just another section to complete their signature post quota.

Here are 10 posts deserving more merits:

1.
Given the odds are x4.20 and x3.00:

Here’s my simple math.. if you bet $50 at x4.20, your total return is $210.
If you bet $50 at x3.00, your return is $150.

If you take the outside bet (even money), you bet $100 and your return is $200.

So, betting on the moneyline in sportsbook is actually less risky and more profitable.

2.
Casinos are included on hackers lists, and they know that employing advanced security measures is the only way to protect their platforms. in fact, based on this article,
Quote
statistics from Gitnux show that there were over 261 million attacks on the gambling industry in 2020. Worst of all, the number has increased by 685%, according to the same study.
How Online Casinos Protect Against Cyber Attacks

The same article also highlighted all the casinos are taking to insure their platform and users security, like
Quote
Firewall, Secure Banking Systems, Encryption, Anti-Fraud System, Regular Security Audits

They have to do this because they can easily lose the trust of their players if they are easily hack, so security should be their main priority.

3.

Would you be willing to bet that Lamine Yamal is a symbol of the future of football, on par with CR7 or Messi, or that perhaps we're overestimating him prematurely, since we've seen these cases in the past where a player stands out so much that, over the years, he ends up becoming just another player in the squad.

Another question I have is, do you think the current rivalry on social media is real or just a marketing ploy?

This is a thread where we can discuss, predict or speculate who will win the Prestigious Ballon d’Or. since either Leonel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or this years own has to be the most fiercely contested Ballon d’Or so this create a space for interesting football discussions.

According to https://www.goal.com/en-ng/lists/ballon-dor-2025-power-rankings/bltd009fae5576d751f
Below are the top 20 contenders

20 Declan Rice (Arsenal)
19 Bradley Barcola (Paris Saint-Germain)
18 Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid)
17 Vinicius Jr (Real Madrid)
16 Nuno Mendes (Paris Saint-Germain)
15 Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting CP)
14 Joao Neves (Paris Saint-Germain)
13 Vitinha (Paris Saint-Germain)
12 Gianluigi Donnarumma (Paris Saint-Germain)
11 Robert Lewandowski (Barcelona)
10 Harry Kane (Bayern Munich)
9 Pedri (Barcelona)
8 Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint-Germain)
7 Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Paris Saint-Germain)
6 Desire Doue (Paris Saint-Germain)
5 Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid)
4 Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
3 Raphinha (Barcelona)
2 Lamine Yamal (Barcelona)
1 Ousmane Dembele (Paris Saint-Germain)

Who will be crowned Ballon d’Or 2025 winner and how will the top ten list look like at the end.

England secures (5) seats in the Champions League next season.

Whoever finishes fifth in the Premier League this season will qualify for next season's Champions League. Possibly Newcastle and Manchester City is on the verge finish 4th or 5th. Luckily both teams need not worry as even the 5th position will be going to the UCL next season.

6.
One thing I have noticed is that everyone can give good information about football and post good quality, but I can't give good information or post good about football and different sports. What medium can I follow to get good information about football matches? If anyone can help me with this, it will be great for me because I am very interested in knowing about sports but I don't have a clear idea about how to know. Also, is there any good app from where I can watch live football games and unique popular games and share good information?
For you to follow up about football you must first develop love for football, then keep watching football this including live matches. You can only know about football when you keep following currently matches and I believe there are sites you could read about them. And for goals update you can also check https://www.livescore.com to follow up matches how they played.

7.
Today in my area the police have succeeded in arresting one of the unscrupulous government hospital employees,
Because the suspect has embezzled $ 9,500, and from the results of the police investigation, the suspect's confession was used for online gambling and personal needs.

This case was revealed after the suspect made a fake report, from the police investigation it turned out that the money was taken by the suspect to gamble and personal needs.
From the results of the investigation.
$6000 is used up for online gambling.
$3,500 is used up for personal purposes.

For his actions the suspect must lose a job/fired from staffing and imprisonment of a maximum of 5 years in prison or fines.

From this case, we all need to remember the wisdom of your economic capabilities, never take it not yours, love your family.
Gambling does not solve your economic problems by taking other people's money.

8.
When I first started gambling around 2015, anonymous casinos and sportsbooks were the norm. Some of you might remember DirectBet - it was huge back then before eventually shutting down.

Now, the landscape has clearly shifted toward regulated platforms. Yet some anonymous options still exist. So I'm curious, where does the community stand today? Would you still choose anonymous casinos, or do you prefer sticking with regulated ones?

9.
1. Don't gamble with an amount that you can't afford to lose.

2. Don't chase your losses because it leads to more losses because tomorrow is another day.

3. Have a gambling budget and time limit for your gambling activities.

4. Gamble for fun and not fod profits because most gamblers end up losing more than they win.

5. Have self control and discipline over your gambling activities.

6. Gambling is a game of luck and not a skill based game or by experience.

10.
So this left me to ask the question does statistics really work in football or it just a coincidence that it happens
Wait, what is the relationship between statistics with a trophy or victory, as far as I know statistics are matters relating to data or knowledge or the results of the previous match one of the soccer teams.

Indeed, in the world of football the history of victory and carrying a trophy often occurs, for example the Brazilian World Cup as far as I know five times brought the World Cup and Germany four times and followed by Italy three times, it happened not based on statistics Or coincidentally, all of that was obtained thanks to their hard work in the world of football, they have the best players several times in the history of history.

Likewise with Tottenham they still have the best players this season, so they can win the trophy, it is all obtained based on the coach's hard work, the team and so on to be the best during the match, not because of statistics.

There are many more posts in the gambling board that deserve merits. I hope my application will be reviewed and accepted.

8  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Court orders crypto company to pay N140m to EFCC for illegal USDT/Naira trade on: October 24, 2024, 04:19:01 PM

Nairametrics reports that the company and Okereke among several firms and individuals were indicted by the EFCC for negotiating United States Dollar Tether (USDT) against the Naira with the public, despite not being an authorized dealer in the Nigeria Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market.

Nairametrics reports that the company and Okereke among several firms and individuals were indicted by the EFCC for negotiating United States Dollar Tether (USDT) against the Naira with the public, despite not being an authorized dealer in the Nigeria Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market.

According to the plea bargain, the defendant admitted committing the offense and has restituted N140,000,000 to the EFCC, being part of the amount associated with the disputed transaction.

The case stems from the EFCC’s ongoing investigation, which revealed that several bank accounts are linked to individuals allegedly using virtual cryptocurrency exchange platforms to manipulate the value of the Naira illegally and launder proceeds from unlawful activities.

The story is quite alarming, allegedly the EFCC has flagged several bank accounts linked to crypto transactions and are coming for the account owners. How far are the government willing to go to put an end to crypto p2p transactions. They are using EFCC as their muscle to run down crypto firms and individuals who are trading crypto. Right now they are attacking people who have done transactions above 10m so they (EFCC) can make some money from restitution. What happens when they are done with the big fish and face accounts with l smaller amounts? How do you we as crypto investors protect ourselves from this prosecution?
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / UAE removes taxes for all crypto transactions on: October 07, 2024, 06:54:57 AM

The UAE has exempted cryptocurrency transfers and conversions from value-added tax, positioning itself as a more crypto-friendly jurisdiction for digital asset transactions.

Amendments to value-added tax (VAT) regulations in the United Arab Emirates will exempt transfers and conversions of digital assets, including crypto.

On Oct. 2, the UAE’s Federal Tax Authority (FTA) published amendments to the country’s VAT rules. According to business consultancy company PwC, the new rules include VAT exemptions for additional services, including managing investment funds and transferring and converting virtual assets

The UAE just got a whole lot friendlier with its new no tax policy on crypto. Like El Salvador, the UAE may just become the next haven for crypto enthusiasts. Most countries in Europe tax over 30% of your profits. Do you think the UK and other countries in Europe will make such a move in the near future?

I found this thread on X where a user was complaining about a p2p transaction gone wrong on Bybit. I don’t want to bore us with the details as you can see the conversation in the pictures below. There are a lot of bad actors on Bybit p2p platform, they post their ads with high rates which attracts many sellers to their ad. I have noticed it is the traders with less trade history that have the highest rates and are mostly scammers and time wasters. Have you ever been in a situation where your p2p transaction is being appealed and the coins was released to the other person without your permission. If yes, how did you handle the issue. Please share with us.

12  Economy / Gambling discussion / Do ex-players make better pundits than non-players? on: July 21, 2024, 08:50:58 AM
Football is a game of passion. And as fans we love to see the players we grew up with on the screens contributing to football in some way after they have retired. So it is not surprising when former players like Xabi Alonso, Ryan Giggs, Thierry Henry, Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, e.t.c. transition to become managers. Some are successful at it, others are not so fortunate in their new role. It is assumed that with their experience and knowledge of the game, they would make great managers but that’s not always the case.

However it is a different story when it comes to former players becoming football pundits. Many highly respected and knowledgeable football analysts are former players like Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Rio Ferdinand., Ian Wright e.t.c. After Covid, I have noticed more podcasts and sports shows featuring former players. One in particular that caught my attention is to CBS Sports' Champions League, featuring these amazing trio:
1. Jamie Carragher: Former Liverpool defender and England player who has become a popular pundit known for his in-depth analysis of the game.
2. Thierry Henry: Former Arsenal player and France under-21 manager. A football legend who loves the game.
3. Micheal Richards: Former Manchester City and England player who gained recognition for being   youngest defender to be called up to the England squad.

With their experience and knowledge of the game, the trio along Kate Abdo have a great chemistry and make football analysis interesting to watch. Even a person who is not a football can easily fall  in-love with the sport by just watching these guys talk football. This makes me wonder if former players make better pundits than non players. Do you agree?

And here it is to spice it up - Which of the them will you follow their sports betting tips based on their pre-match analysis - the ex-players pundits or the non-players pundits

14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Interview with business owner who accept Bitcoin as payment method on: May 05, 2024, 10:40:58 PM
I recently visited a locally owned business that accepts bitcoin as payment method. I was so excited to see someone who isn’t on BTT accepting bitcoin as payment method. It shows that bitcoin adoption is spreading across the world. The store had a beautiful signage on the exterior and interior of the store that displays “Bitcoin, USDT, Enaira Accepted”

After window shopping, I had a little chitchat with the owner and asked if he would be open to chat about his experience which he agreed to. I texted him 11 questions, it took a while but he finally replied with answers to all of them.

This is how the interview went:

1. When and why did you decide to start to accept Bitcoin and other crypto as payment methods in your business?

“I thought it would be a good way to attract customers who like cryptocurrencies. I have been doing this for about three years and I have had this business for four years.”

2. How has this decision affected the growth of your business over the years? Do you still see your business accepting Bitcoin as payment in the next ten years?

“Business has been good. People here are not used to seeing small businesses accept crypto as payment and are fascinated when they are offered the option of paying in crypto. It has opened me to a new network and I’m grateful I made the decision to include crypto payments in my business. I still see my business accepting Bitcoin as payment in the next ten years. But I cannot say what the price of Bitcoin will be in ten years time.”

3. What’s your government’s stance on Bitcoin and cryptocurrency? How has that affected your business?

“Bitcoin is not illegal in Nigeria. I also accept E-naira which is a cryptocurrency endorsed by the government.”

4. Who are your main customers?

“I sell electronics, gaming consoles and gadgets. A large portion of my customers are males. The gamers are not new to crypto, most of them have used bitcoin to make in game purchases so when they come here they are more than happy to pay on bitcoin.”

5. Which cryptocurrency do your customers pay with the most? Bitcoin, Usdt or E naira? And which is your favorite?

“I have never had a customer pay with E-naira.  Bitcoin and usdt are the favourites.”

6. Do you offer discount for customers who make payments in Bitcoin and other accepted cryptocurrencies?

“No I don’t.”

7. How do you deal with high fees in Bitcoin? Do you use lightning network?

“No, I do not use lightning network. Bitcoin is one of many payment options available. Customers can choose to pay in usdt, E-naira or fiat when bitcoin fees are high.”

8. Do you use the services of Bitcoin payment processors?

“Yes I use Binance Pay. I’m looking to switch to other payment processors since Binance has disable its p2p option for Nigerians.”

9. What is your management style? Do you hodl the coins or instantly convert crypto received into fiat?

“Both. I convert the crypto to fiat and also keep a small percentage of Bitcoin.“

10. What are the biggest challenges you face in running a business that accept Bitcoin as payment method?

“Balancing the books can be tricky especially when you don’t immediately convert the crypto to fiat. The market changes rapidly and you can experience a loss or profit.”

11. What key piece of advice do you have for someone that may one day like to start a business that accept Bitcoin?

“Just do it.”

I also discovered other SMEs advertising online that accept Bitcoin as means of payment. I sent them a dm and hopefully they will respond. I will be updating the thread as soon as I get a response from them. If you find a business that accepts Bitcoin as payment in your city, feel free to use the above questions and share with us the answers you got from the business owners. And I will add the link to the OP. If you also have suggestions and questions you think I should add in my next interview, please let me know. Cheers!
15  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Opay, Palmpay, and others to close accounts wey dey do crypto transactions on: May 04, 2024, 12:23:59 PM
I just login my palmpay account this morning to make transfer when I see their notification say CBN don give instruction say make them no dey allow their users to make transactions way concern crypto through their platform. I still check my Palmpay account sef, na the same message I dey see there. Them even send me SMS sef. My head dey spin since as I dey think how we go fit take exchange our coins to naira if the traditional banks and fintech banks dey close accounts way them connect to crypto trading.

Since Binance don cast I know say many of their previous users don dey use remitano or other p2p exchanges. I dey use remitano trade, and for the app them get option way you fit convert your coins to naira automatically (NGNR), I dey feel say these exchange platforms go soon change their policies so that them no go enter government wahala.

This no be the first time CBN and Nigerian government dey ban crypto transactions, the last time Nigerians come dey use format of say them no go dey add anything related to crypto for the transaction note and e been dey work that year. I sure say the format go don cast by now so wetin be the new thing we fit do to avoid CBN closing our accounts?

16  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Would you still use Patricia after recent events? on: May 02, 2024, 07:22:00 PM
Recents events don cause users to doubt the credibility of the crypto exchange way them dey call Patricia. This wahala start from May 2023, when users come discover say them no fit withdraw money from the exchange. After much kasala for internet, na so Patricia come out come talk say them hack them. According to the CEO, then lose over $2million to the hack. Some people nor buy this story, them believe say nothing like hack happen. Na just the way the exchange won take do exit scam be that.

Even with all the story way we dey hear for internet, the CEO still dey reassure their users say the exchange go refund everybody their money back. So imagine the surprise when them come up with Patricia Token as repayment of the lost funds. This thing no just make sense at all. Which day Patricia Token won take get value? The whole thing just be like daylight robbery. Na say young entrepreneurs no dey fit manage large funds and companies? We see the same problem with FTX where company go dey bankrupt and the CEOs go still dey chop life with people money.

Just yesterday, e come be like say people darkest fear don come true as this tweet go viral about Patricia closing down.

Patricia don respond today to the allegations, them dey claim say na fake news and that they don come to stay.

Fejiro Hanu, the CEO of Nigerian crypto exchange Patricia, has denied rumors of its closure, calling them a media ploy for clicks and confirming that the exchange is still operating.

With all this things wey don happen, you go fit trust local exchanges? And wetin this one mean for other exchanges wey dey come up?

17  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / EFCC to arrest businesses that accept payment in dollar. on: April 12, 2024, 09:15:49 PM
Quote from: [url=https://punchng.com/hoteliers-school-owners-charging-in-dollars-risk-arrest-efcc/?amp
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has stated that hotels, schools, and other establishments that accept payments in dollars from their customers are at risk of facing arrest.

The Chairman, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, said this in the agency’s publication called EFCC Alert on Monday, adding that action would be taken against individuals involved in the dollarisation of the economy.
According to him, the exception is if foreigners come in to transact business and the only means of transacting is their credit card and dollar but to charge local customers in dollars or other foreign currencies would no longer be allowed.
He said charging local activities and customers in dollars is against Nigeria’s constitution.

The Federal government dey serious for this fight to reduce the way people dey use dollar for we country. Them first face those mallam wey dey do Bureau de change. From there, Binance sef follow enter the wahala. All na to reduce to dollar to naira rate and e belike say the thing dey work because rate na 1100/$ for market as at today. If government fit handle this matter like this na be say them fit use this pattern follow businesses way dey accept crypto as payment. Already FG dey demand list of Nigerians way dey trade for Binance. Wetin you feel say them won use that information do?
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Knowledge is the New Gold on: March 27, 2024, 11:17:06 PM
Something interesting happened over the weekend and I think it’s worth sharing. A friend of mine reached out to me that he was having some problems with his Trust wallet. According to him, he received some bitcoins days ago through his trust wallet address and even though the transaction was confirmed on the blockchain, the bitcoins did not reflect on his wallet balance so there was no way he could move the bitcoins. I suggested he download Electrum and import his seed phrase to Electrum. He told me that wouldn’t be a problem since he had his seed phrase saved as a photo in his phone. This took me by surprise because he isn’t a newbie to Bitcoin. He’s been a p2p trader for about three years and still did not know the danger of saving one’s seed phrase online. I explained to him the consequences of storing his seed phrase online and advised him not to use that wallet anymore. His only defense was that Trust wallet allowed him to screenshot his keys so it shouldn’t be that bad.

Anyway, he successfully imported his seed phrase to Electrum and was able to move his bitcoins with less fee. What’s fascinating about the story is this. I got a text from him this morning that someone has a similar problem with his wallet and he needs my guidance once again to help this person. He then told he charged 30% of the bitcoins as his fee. I laughed because I thought he was joking. But he wasn’t. He’s actually thinking of making a business out of this. Turns out that people will pay for things they can do by themselves if they had the right knowledge.

|It is a tradition to celebrate April Fools Day on Bitcointalk. Every year Theymos  comes up with a new April fools prank. Each year always better than the last. This year, Royse777 and TryNinja decided to join in the fun.

This year, Theymos introduced the new Captcha system in order to reduce low quality post. PowerGlove was in on it as well, which made it believable. Newbies are the usual victims, older members remember the date and immediately recognize what’s happening. Based on the number of threads that were created about the new captcha system. I would say the prank was a successful one.

Some were skeptical but didn’t want to risk not applying for the campaign. You can imagine the reactions when Royse777 said it was a prank. Pure Gold!
