All of a sudden Dogecoin difficulty is as high as 14,000 from an average 1,000 for the longest time.
Is this a precursor to an upcoming increase in value (in BTC or USD) or just a ton of new hash power coming online or something
completely different?

The crux of the matter is that miners are now in direct competition with the manufacturers. A game miners cannot win.
I bet it's ALL of them now mining first for 2 months and then selling off the equipment. SPondoolies, Bitmain, etc etc all figured out they can make a lot more money milking their machines first and then making even more dumping them on customers. Hey, I would do the exact same.

Even though I currently mine with 3TH+ (large for a home operation, but no mining farm by any means) I am beginning to think that it was not good for BTC to go big time so quickly.
If mining would have stayed a thing guys do with only CPU or GPU power a few years longer it actually could have built a much stronger shadow infrastructure instead of scaring up regulators, governments and the like.
But now the cat is out of the bag. Mining just might implode under its own weight. If all the people now taking delivery of
their shiny new ASICS miners and only lose money it might get ugly. Will be interesting how it all pans out.

My company invested about 10K into various BTC and script mining machines incl. a SP10, a couple of S1, A2, Dragon Miner, and a few assorted smaller miners. Power costs are low here, about 10 cents per KWH.
After trying out various approaches during the last 2 months and negotiating much better prices from dealers should we buy miners for $250K+ the fact of the matter is one will not make any money mining using a 6 month horizon if difficulty continues to increase at about 30%/month average as it has during the last year and BTC does not go above $650 for any length of time. The only 'profit' would be whatever you can get for your then obsolete machines after those 6 months. And that is a pure crap shoot...
And in my calculations I did not factor in incidentals like setup, removal, maintenance, repairs (many cannot be fixed du to lack of parts), internet blackouts, other failures.

My understanding is that with BTC the block finder gets and extra reward with P2Pools of 0.5% (please correct if not true).
I have found a bunch of Dogecoin blocks with Nut2Pools and never got any kind of 'bonus' for that. No bonuses with
Dogecoins or am I missing something?

I have 3+THs BTC mining power and tried out a P2POOL node yesterday for about 6 hours. For some reason all P2POOL sites I visited to not really explain well how the whole payout system works.
Anyway, after 6 hours I stopped mining and had 3 'shares' and it said I would get 0.009 BTC if a share was found now. Thats all, nothing else. Fast forward to this morning...I have a total of 4 deposits of 0.09 from mining that are taking forever to get confirmed. Why does it take so long in this case and why can't the P2POOL sites better let miners know how much is headed their way?

I transferred two small amounts to my Cryptsy LTC account. Both did not show up. I have opened a ticket but have not heard back.
Anyway have any similar experiences? And, will the coin ever show up?
Any experts around that can deduct information from this:

I have been mining with about 3TH total for a month now. There have been 2 diff. increases,
one of about 20% and one of 3% ... however, my earning have not decreased by 23%..rather
my 2 week moving average only went down by about $5 daily...(more like <10%)
Pure coincidence (pool luck, BTC/$ rate) or what? Longer term (6 month horizon) what to expect?

I have been trading a total of about 3TH on mainly Slush and BTC Guild.
If you look at BTC pool luck chart for the last couple of weeks you will notice that their 'luck' has been underperforming
way more than chance alone would indicate. Do not even care to speculate if there might be funny stuff going on.
Slush often has a couple bad or good days in a row but never extreme ranges for extended periods.
Any long term miners want to weigh in this with their opinions?

I have a SP10 in operation. It is a well built, slick machine. Since I don't have it in a really cool room (that thing is loud-75db of whining noise) I do not run in at full blast, just about 1.25-1.35TH. Just checked out the new SP30 due out in Aug/Sep (depending on the batch). Now, while the specs sound great, 6TH for about $5000, at today's difficulty we are talking about $4,500 gross per month. And that's the kicker, 'today's difficulty'. In Sept that will be around twice as much in all likelihood, or more... which means that it will be the equivalent of 2.5TH at today's difficulty.
As a rather new miner, what does this imply? Never buy anything that will not be delivered in a matter of a week or two?
Just hope and pray difficulty will be less that expected?
Buy the lowest gh/$ hardware today and sell off 3, 6, 9 months from now?

I had 3 Antminer S1 in my small home office for about 4 days until I realized I needed a solution - its 90 degrees outside and probably hotter inside. The ceiling fan and a/c really did nothing. After taking a closer look at all nooks and crannies in my house I noticed I had an outlet in the crawlspace (for non-us people, its like a half cellar with varying height.). So I used 2 cinder blocks and 2x4 to make a stand and got all 3 S1 running in no time.
BTW... solved the ethernet problem with a Edimax ethernet bridge. I just could not get the S1's to work with their built in wifi, for god knows what reason. The Edimax works great, with no loss of throughput.

I am a rather new miner so maybe I am missing something obvious but here goes. When I run my 3 Antminer S1 with Slush my average payout per block is something like 0.004, sometimes a little less sometimes a little more. With the same machines working at BTC Guild after generating on average 400-500K shares is only 0.00024! We are talking a BIG difference. Any ideas why?  |
