1  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTB] Bitfury V2 chips on: November 13, 2014, 01:11:02 PM
I am looking for Bitfury V2 chips.
Send me a PM with the number of chips available and your asking price.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / True distribution: limit hashing power to (for example) 1TH/s per IP address on: October 08, 2014, 09:39:26 AM
Bitcoin mining is getting more and more into the hands of only a few BIG players, who are throwing multiple 10's of PH/s at the network at the cost of enormous electricity usage and grabbing almost all the BTC produced.

Before we know it, the whole ecosystem depends on these players, with all the risk that comes with this.

Shouldn't we start a movement to back out of this strangling hold, by bringing back mining to the miners at home, by limiting the production of each miner to for example 1TH/s per unique IP address ?

Sure, you can have multiple IP addresses, but suppose we'll have 100,000 miners, will there be one party that can get another 100,000 unique IP addresses to achieve the 50% attack ?

I know there will be challenges to make this happen, but still I think it is a wise move to make.

1. It will limit the electricity needed to keep the bitcoin network alive.
2. It will bring back advantages to run bitcoin mining hardware to the small miner.
3. It will limit the hashing power that can be in one hand.
4. It will make small miners enthusiastic about mining again, and the bitcoin exchange rate might go up again.
5. It's better to have 100,000 miners each making 0.036BTC/day, compared to 10 miners making 350BTC/day and leave some crumbs to the rest.
6. I am sure there are other positive things that will come out of it that I didn't think of.

There are also disadvantages to a few parties that are really big now, but I bet the majority wouldn't mind them getting small again.

I didn't think of all the technicalities needed to make this hack-proof, there are others way smarter than me to do that.
3  Economy / Scam Accusations / DO NOT SEND PACKAGES WITH TRANSPORT INITIATED BY RECEIVER on: September 18, 2014, 06:48:12 AM
I have been scammed by an eBay buyer in a way I have never seen before.
He had arranged the shipment via UPS, I only had to bring it to a local UPS depot.

UPS billed him, but then he refused to pay the shipment invoice, so UPS send me the shipment bill. According to their small print, I am obliged to pay, which I am refusing. UPS already approached a lawyer and they will start a lawsuit.

Don't make the same mistake I did. Just let the buyer pay for your goods including the cost of shipment and arrange the shipment yourself.
4  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTB] Bitfury V2 chips on: August 25, 2014, 06:51:11 AM
I am looking for Bitfury V2 chips.

I am offering US$0.20/GH, so for example 32 chips * 3.8 GH/s * 0,20 = US$24.32. (I know not many of these chips reach 3.8 GH/s, but it's the official number and as such used for price calculation only).

If you don't like the price I am offering:
1. KnC is selling their chips for US$0.15/GH (https://www.kncminer.com/products/knc-28nm-sha256-processor)
2. you can always send me a PM with your asking price and the number of chips you want to sell.

I'll arrange the shipment, you just need to give me the address of the closest FedEx drop-off and bring it there.
5  Bitcoin / Hardware / Money making Bank of America armoured car on: June 03, 2014, 11:23:37 AM

Since OneStringMiner sales have slowed down, and I am waiting for some prototype results, I had some time to fiddle with an idea I had last year...

Inside are two DIY1 sets, together with a 12V -> 5V converter, a 4 port hub, a 12cm fan and a TL-WR703N running dd-wrt and cgminer.

I don't have any solid plans to sell this 50GH/s money maker.
A low price with possible ROI is impossible and that's the first thing that I will hear.
6  Economy / Computer hardware / For sale: 2x250Mh/s pre-order Alpha Technology Viper SCRYPT mining server on: May 21, 2014, 12:19:07 PM

Please read all about their ordering process on their website(https://alpha-t.net/terms-order/), before bidding on this pre-order.

May 28 - miner is now 250 Mh/s: https://alpha-t.net/product/viper-scrypt-miner-90mhs/

So you are bidding for 500Mh/s.
7  Local / Markt / Wil je vandaag nog minen met 30/60/420/... GH/s ? on: March 11, 2014, 10:31:10 AM
Alles is op voorraad, Do It Yourself setup.

1 OneStringMiner board
1 USB kabel
1 power interconnect kabel
1 serial interconnect kabel
8 afstandsbussen(4 voor elk volgend boardje)
4 ringetjes and moertjes(voor elke 3 boardjes)

Verzending is gratis.

10  Bitcoin / Hardware / IN STOCK - OneStringMiner boards, up to 39GH/s last ITEMS: from US$15...FUN!!! on: March 02, 2014, 05:04:15 AM
OneStringMiner board:
The OneStringMiner boards are designed by Intron and C-scape, two well-known Bitcoin mining board designers.
The OSM is based on Bitfury chips and each board contains 15 chips, hashing 25+ GH/s without heat sink and 30+ GH/s with heat sink.
Each board runs from a single 12V supply, using ~25W.

Given the current difficulty and the low price for the boards, purchase them to have FUN setting up a small miner!
You will not get a ROI on your investment, unless paid in fiat and BTC exchange rate raises significantly.
I estimate a single board will produce around 0.05 BTC during the first 6 months.

The models:
The DIY comes in four flavours: bare board(DIY), set without heat sink(DIY0), and with one(DIY1) or two boards per heat sink(DIY2).
The OSM DIY0,1,2 sets come with all additional items to make a nice setup (hex spacers, rings, nuts, USB cable and board interconnection cables).
All you need to add is a power supply and a host computer running cgminer(bfgminer is not supported).
The hashrate will be at least 25GH/s for the DIY0, 30GH/s for the DIY1, 60GH/s for the DIY2.
Overclocking is possible, ONLY WHEN USING A HEAT SINK, by increase the voltage.
This voids the warranty.

Last boards:
This is the deal: PM me an offer(including shipment) in BTC for any number of DIY/DIY0/DIY1 and/or DIY2 and your complete address and I will get back to you whether or not your offer is acceptable. Shipment will be by FedEx on the next working day.

Can be reached by using heat sinks and overvolting, as has been done by one of the designers here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=495536.msg5515427#msg5515427

What's in the box:
DIY set:
1 OneStringMiner board

DIY0 set:
1 OneStringMiner board
1 USB cable
1 power interconnect cable
1 serial interconnect cable
8 hex spacers(4 for each additional board)
4 rings and nuts(for each up to 3 boards)
1 10cm fan(for each up to 3 boards)
4 fan mounting strips(for each up to 3 boards)

DIY1 set:
same as DIY0, plus:
1 small heat sink with mounting holes.
4 M3 screws to mount the board to the heat sink

DIY2 set:
2 DIY0 sets, plus:
1 big heat sink with mounting holes.
8 M3 screws to mount the boards to the heat sink

Everything is in stock, including single and double heat sinks:
So YES, we are selling and shipping. Mostly DIY0 sets, which come without a heat sink. We sell these sets for 25GH/s, but most are faster, some even over 30GH/s. Currently the boards are connected via USB. The serial interconnection is available, but performance is about 10% lower than direct USB connection. Up to 16 boards can run from one USB connection when utilising the serial connection.

Taxes:
The buyer is responsible for all taxes that might need to be paid besides the purchase price.
All shipments will be insured for the purchase price and a signature is required when receiving the package.

Some technical details:
The initial design of the board was first shown on bitcointalk here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=370932.0
The boards are fixed to the heat sink with 4 M3 screws, which will be supplied by us.
The heat sinks have 4 M4 screw holes to easily fix the heat sinks to a base plate. If you want, you can get the screws for these 4 M4 holes for free. Just ask when ordering.
The large heat sinks also have 2 M4 screw holes on top, to stiffen a set of multiple heat sinks. And if you want screws for these 2 holes too, just ask.
The size of an OneString board is 140mm x 100mm.
Two PCIe connectors, 2 screw terminals and 1 barrel jack connector are supplied on each board for power.
Advise is to make sets of 5 DIY1 boards or 5 DIY2 sets, power the middle board(s) with PCIe and use the screw terminals to connect the two boards on the left and the right with the centre board as can be seen on the picture with three single boards. Setup this way no more than ~6A flows through the boards interconnections and no more than ~150W through the PCIe connector.
DIY0 towers can also be made by using 3cm pieces of aquarium air hose and an M3 rod of 20cm. You'll only use the supplied hex spacers on the bottom and the top of the tower. Pictures can be found in this thread.

About to go to the post office. You didn't want to buy the 2nd board by any chance? I could make a deal for you since you already bought 1, let me know and we'll go from there thanks!

I might be interested, if you can send me a pic with both the board and this message on your monitor to my email address: aaa@bbb
At the moment I can offer you 11BTC for the 2nd board.
It's over bedtime here, but I'll be online another 15 minutes.

I have to say this was a smooth transaction thus far and I would rather sell to you since I would like to build a better reputation and your recommendation would help me out alot. Appreciate your co-operation!

OK, we can have a deal at 12BTC, if you agree with a split payment (due to confirmation waiting again) 9BTC right away, 3 BTC tomorrow.
But, I do want to see that picture with the boards and this message on your monitor before I pay.

That sounds perfect! I don't want to do any communication outside of the forums until you get the blades (I just need to establish some rapport). I hope that is okay with you. I will send them both out while I wait for confirmation to finish and have your tracking number asap. I wouldn't be selling at this price if it wasn't for my requirement of bitcoins atm and banks take 3-5 days to transfer so I am still waiting on my deposits). You've been great so far and will give a recommendation at anytime for you.

Hmmm, can you imagine my hesitation to send over us$2500 to a stranger with only two weeks on bitcointalk ?
You can post the picture on http://www.imageshack.us/ to prevent communication outside bitcointalk, you don't need an account there.

I know I can understand it. In fact it's the only reason i'm selling so low as I don't think anyone would pay me market value tbh but overall I think this will benefit me in the long run and for my requirements.

Ok, if you don't want to make that picture, how about you send both boards to me and I will pay the second board after receiving a track & trace number that works. Once it works I will pay. Of course that's still a risk for me, you could send me a brick in the box, but so be it.
My address is:

Great, and the track & trace number is ?

To be honest the tracking wasn't an option it was too much money. I sent the item without tracking it may take a little bit longer the post office said but I couldn't afford to send it with anything but what was offered.

Jason,
Which company did you use to send the package to the Netherlands ?

Canada Post.

You probably took International Parcel - Surface, the cheapest one.
1. I paid 0.9 BTC for shipment, you probably paid about halve. So you owe me.
2. Do you realize it will take 4-6 WEEKS for the package to arrive ?! For an item that is time sensitive to receive ?!
3. How will I ever get any ROI when it eventually arrives, if ever ?
4. You should have contacted me before sending. I could have paid the shipment by CC and you could have refunded me the 0.9BTC.
5. You have seen all the scam accusations, your actions till now are not very positive in my eyes.

Oh well, lesson learned. Never buy anything when just back from a nice holiday. My guards were down, will not happen again.

(I will be surprised when the package arrives in 4-6 weeks, for now I tend to think I have been scammed and lost 16.9BTC).

Oh, you could make a scan of the receipt you received from Canada Post, but I am sure you will not.

And since you didn't deny it, thanks for nothing Jason Aldridge from Winnipeg, Canada.

* frustrated and disappointed *

Canada Post.
No more replies ?

And then he went silent...

Few things to note:
1. I was really NOT thinking at all. Multiple red flags by other forum members, still I went for it.
2. He signed his messages with Mat now and then. When I got suspicious, I did some investigation and found his real name, Jason Aldridge from Winnipeg, Canada. When I mention his first name out of the blue, he didn't even notice it, nor reacted on it.
3. No spelling errors (that I could see) from his side, so must be a grown up and educated.

There you go Jason, my first scam accusation, congratulations.

In the unlikely event that I will receive a blade in 4-6 weeks, I will update this message.

I have sent him a PM with a link to this thread.

17  Bitcoin / Hardware / Modification to show HW% and rejected% on Avalon Cgminer Status page on: July 11, 2013, 02:14:49 PM
I have a small modification to show the HW% on the Cgminer Status page:

ssh into your unit with ssh -l root <ip address>
cd to the directory /usr/lib/lua/luci/controller
vi cgminer.lua
Scroll down to the following lines:

   for line in summary do
local elapsed, mhsav, foundblocks, getworks, accepted, rejected, hw, utility, discarded, stale, getfailures, localwork, remotefailures, networkblocks, totalmh, wu, diffaccep
      if elapsed then
         local mhw = string.format("%d(%1.2f%%)",hw,(100*hw/(diffaccepted+diffrejected+hw)));
         local str
         local days

Add the local mhw = line

Scroll down to the lines:

            ['accepted'] = accepted,
            ['rejected'] = rejected,
            ['hw'] = hw,
            ['utility'] = utility,
            ['discarded'] = discarded,

Change the = hw that you see into = mhw

Save the new file and cd to /tmp
remove the luci caches: rm -rf luci-indexcache luci-modulecache
reload the Cgminer Status page in your browser and admire your HW% Smiley

Note1: This mod might go away after a reboot
Note2: The calculation of HW is not 100% correct since I can't use Diff1shares but have to use DiffA + DiffR but it's close enough!

Update: rejected% instructions below in message #4

@CKolivas: Can you add this mod to your next release when you're back from a well deserved vacation ?
18  Bitcoin / Mining / BTCGuild odd payment link on: July 07, 2013, 02:16:47 PM
hi guys, can you please check the most recent link of the Payments & Withdrawals, Payout Detail list on BtcGuild ?
My link is very odd: http://www.blockchain.info/tx-index/16346 -
normally it is http://www.blockchain.info/tx-index/11379818794826794643202f25cf1644a6746ba61f983cc48800f504aae51f38
so the most recent link points to a very old block ?!

Obviously, the payment that would normally have been done isn't there
19  Bitcoin / Hardware / AVALON UPDATE received JUNE 10 on: June 10, 2013, 08:23:40 AM
Bitcoin will change your life.   online version • update profile • unsubscribe

Avalon ASIC   ASICs on time; Business done right.
Dear Ben,
Not quiet ready yet, but since we did promise an update over the weekend, here's a sneak peak of the exciting two weeks that will follow.

For those who did not see Yifu Guo's panel at the conference can check it out below
http://youtube.com/watch?v=LY1xgGiejIc | http://youtube.com/watch?v=UtVx26LlNXA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nD237oF7cCo

Let's get started.

First, there will be no power supply cable included in the box, you will have to acquire you own, it is an standard ATX power cable, get the socket for your country, we did this to save time allowing all the packaging of the Avalons to be uniform.

To summarize and recap the talk at the conference:

Scaling from few hundred units that we had a few month to prepare for into a few thousand units in less than a month have proven difficult, we must admit that we have bite off more than we can chew and suffering from "third-party dates", which are ever-changing. We are playing catch up and expect to soon see the light at the end of this tunnel.

Facts:

New SMT line is now fully operational as of this weekend.
New shipping channel secured and tested.
Sample chips has began shipping.
Majority of all the parts have arrived and ready,
which also means we finally will have time to go over tickets, and send out those trade-in payment emails.

What you can expect in the next newsletter should consist of the following:

photo tour of the new Avalon factory,
the operating crew, which have doubled in size, assembling.
piles and piles of packaged Avalons ready to ship.

Sit tight, it won't be long now.

20  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Transaction, Blocks, Mining. How does it come together ? on: June 03, 2013, 12:54:11 PM
I have been looking for the real answer and haven't found it.
How do they all come together.
Let me try and you correct me.
We have 2 miners, M1 to M2.
We have 100 transactions, T1 to T100.
We have 2 blocks, B1 and B2

My questions:
1. How does a miner chooses which transactions of the available 100 to include, is this done by bitcoind, and configured (minimum fee?) in bitcoin.config and/or command line options ?
2. Transactions are put in a block. Let's assume M1 is mining B1 and M2 is mining B2. Is there a mechanism that prevents T1 to be in both B1 and B2, or is it allowed for T1 to be in both B1 and B2 ?
3. What happens to M2/B2 if M1/B1 finds the golden nonce ? Does M2 have to create a new block which excludes all the transactions validated in B1, or is it ok to have T1 in both B1 (that has just been validated) and B2, which is still to be validated ?
4. If 3 is OK, where does B2 fit in the blockchain once it's validated because B2 has a reference to the previous block in the chain and B1 now sneaked in.
5. If 3 is not OK, is all the work that M2 has done on B2 a waste because it has to create a new block and start finding the golden nonce on the new block ?
