1  Other / Politics & Society / Is there a coup going on in China? on: September 24, 2022, 09:01:00 PM
Is there a Coup going on in China? Over the past hours there have been rumours of that; it is said that president Xi Jinping is under some form of house arrest, there is no concrete evidence yet about that, but hardly is there any concrete evidence of anything that happens in China because of how their government is run. There are some reasons people believe something amiss is going on in this period in China, you will see some of the reasons in the link i will share on the story.

I don't personally think there is a Coup happening in China, Xi is a very powerful man and it is very unlikely that his government will be removed from power through a coup, i know some or many of you have seen this news, what do you make of it?

2  Other / Off-topic / Password managers or passwords from memory on: June 30, 2022, 09:26:33 AM
Creating a password is very important, weak passwords means hackers can easily gain access to your accounts, and many of us have a lot of online accounts across different platforms, so creating a password for each account, including emails becomes a task. There are two ways of creating a password, either through your brain or with a password manager, like keePass for example.

The purpose of this topic is to know which of the two ways this community thinks is the safest!!!

If you create passwords from your mind it will have to be complex so hackers can't get it, and it will be difficult for you to remember so you'd have to write them down on paper, because if you save them in your email or online, then it is unsafe, but what of in a situation that the paper you used to back up your password is misplaced or damaged, what are the additional back ups for people who use this method to ensure their passwords are safe forever.

Password managers seem to be the safest, for those who use them, what are the 'do's and dont's', i do not have too much experience with password managers, so can anything go wrong when using them? Any knowledge or experience you have on password creation will be appreciated so others can learn from it.
3  Other / Beginners & Help / Is investing more than you can afford to lose inevitable? on: June 16, 2022, 10:29:33 PM
Invest only what you can afford to lose is a very popular phrase for bitcoiners, but how do you manage to do it, many bitcoiners have lost fate in fiat currencies because of inflation, so they do not consider banks to be an option for holding. Some people say they only keep what they feel will be sufficient for them per month, and invest the rest of their income, will that not be investing more than you can afford to lose?

If i earn $400 for example, and i keep a $100 and invest $300 in bitcoin, with time my bitcoin will grow and i will have so much money in my wallet, but no money in my bank, and this is exactly how people claim they go about things because of inflation, isn't this investing more than you can afford to lose? And if you are in for diversification, and in addition to bitcoin investment you put some of your money into real estate, gold, and the rest, and only keep what can sustain you per month, isn't it investing more than you can afford to lose?

How do you go about this personally? I am asking because many people especially bitcoiners do not trust the banking system, with inflation and censorship problem, in that case does it mean that investing more than you can afford to lose is inevitable in this current system? Because your money is somewhere else, either bitcoin or other investment.
4  Other / Meta / Email address when making reports on: May 21, 2022, 11:43:05 AM
If you decide to report a post on the forum it says that your email address would be revealed to the moderator, does it mean your email address would be revealed to only the moderator that handles the case? Is there a way to put it off that the moderator wouldn't see your email address, for people who do not want their email address revealed OR can moderators see your email address even without you making a report, or is it only the admin that has that power?
5  Economy / Economics / Standard of living on: May 06, 2022, 11:54:44 AM
The prices of goods and services are increasing everywhere in the world, inflation being the major reason why, the physical and political war in Ukraine is also compounding issues for some specific countries, as we know if prices of commodities are high which they are, people will spend more money to buy the goods they need and pay for the services they want. Standard of living on the other hand is like a general term to quantify the economic well-being of people in any country, meaning if the prices of goods and services are high, people would be able to afford very little goods and services and that will make the standard of living to drop generally, and that also goes vice versa.

So i would like to know what the standard of living is like in your country now compared to five years ago. Was there any sharp difference in the standard of living pre pandemic and now. If there is a great fall in the standard of living in your country, have there been any move by the government and employers of labor to alleviate the sufferings of people. People who live in Ukraine, if you don't mind, i think a lot of people would want to know what it is like there too since the war began.
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Personal seed phrase on: February 22, 2022, 11:46:35 AM
When creating a new bitcoin wallet, the network generates our seed phrase for us which we are expected to back up and protect, and i do not think anybody memorizes their seed phrase as it was not formed by them and will be hard to remember.
1. So i want to know is it possible for me to create my own personal seed phrase to make it easy for me to remember it and maybe i may not have to write it down.
2. What wallet can i do it with, or will any wallet support me to make my own seed phrase.
3. Has anybody done something like that and what was the experience, is it risky?
7  Other / Beginners & Help / How safe is a multi signature wallet on: January 18, 2022, 06:34:54 PM
If there is one thing I know, even though I don't really know too much, it is that the importance of security cannot be overemphasized, so I want to get some clarification on the following.

I have a mobile phone and a computer, currently for some reasons I do not have a hardware wallet, but I'm making plans towards that, so I want to ensure than I use my phone and computer securely when carrying out Bitcoin transactions.

Would the best thing to do be for me to use a 2 of 2 multi signature wallet, is it very safe, I'm seeking top security here, would I be able to sufficiently evade malwares and other forms of attacks if I do so.
