Copyright Infringement Disputes? Blockchain Can Provide Solutions

Fox uses an existing Youtube video in an episode of Family Guy, then complains about copyright infringement and takes down the video.

This is just one of the many cases where large media organizations have unfairly used the provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Could blockchain provide a foolproof and fair way of dealing with copyright infringement disputes?

Larry Summers: “Blockchain is Going to Be Fundamental”

Dr Larry Summers is no stranger to the world of finance. He was the Secretary of Treasury of the Clinton administration.
He has also served as the President of Harvard University and Chief Economist of the World Bank. When he makes a statement on matters concerning the financial sector, the world notices.

Speaking at Consensus 2016 in New York, Larry Summers says:

“Is the blockchain technology going to be fundamental? I think the answer is overwhelmingly likely to be yes. Is bitcoin going to be a valuable store of value, the same way as people use gold? I don’t know, but I think that certainly the answer is 'no' doesn’t seem like the right position to take.”

Securities Blockchain Will Have Limited Cost Savings – Ripple MD

Financial institutions have invested significantly in the development of Blockchain technology. However, the Asia Pacific MD of Ripple feels that cost savings are not expected to be significant in the securities market.

Dilip Rao at the 2016 AFR Banking & Wealth Summit says:

“Where blockchain has had the most impact is where there are a number of networks, but they don't talk to each other very well. There is no obvious trust between these networks, a central authority.”

Gun Sales Continue Unabated On Facebook

In January 2016, Facebook announced that it was banning the P2P sale of guns on its website, which were taking place without any background checks. This was in response to enormous pressure mounted by anti-gun lobbyists, who had alleged that Facebook was becoming a giant mall for the sale of illegal guns.

While P2P sales of guns on Facebook have been banned, implementation of the ban has proven difficult. How are payments for these trades, which violate Facebook's guidelines, completed?

10  Bitcoin / Electrum / Exchange Rate Plugin on: October 24, 2015, 03:49:29 AM
The Bitcoin exchange rate plugin seems to have gone crazy today.
When I opened electrum, the exchange rate shown was 1 BTC = 800+ USD.
It has been hovering at 1 BTC = 350 USD since then, although the current price is in the $270s.
Does anybody else have this problem?

Previously, I had electrum 1.9.8 and I recently downloaded electrum 2.1.1

When I started electrum 2.1.1, my wallet was synchronized and my address labels were intact. Now when I try starting it, it says "synchronizing....". When I try to go to the Network settings, electrum hangs.....

Any way to solve this?
12  Bitcoin / Electrum / Send from Option on: March 15, 2015, 12:50:56 AM
When we click on "Send From" a particular address and
(1) The address is frozen (or)
(2) There aren't enough funds in that particular address

Shouldn't we get a warning / error message? I think transactions are being processed from other addresses in these 2 cases.

Bitcoin tumbles—are investors losing faith?

http://www.cnbc.com/id/102061051

Bitcoin lost nearly a fifth of its value over the weekend, raising concerns that investors are losing faith in the cryptocurrency.

Prices fell to a year-to-date low of $290.83 on Sunday, down over 18 percent from early Saturday, according to bitcoin news blog CoinDesk. Analysts are citing a number of factors for the decline: bearish chart signals; ongoing regulatory concerns; large sell orders by some early adopters; and a shift in the supply/demand balance.
