1  Bitcoin / Project Development / Best way to distribute BTC dividends? on: January 01, 2018, 06:36:03 PM
Lets say I want people to be able to buy shares in some sort of decentralized entity. Then when the entity has Bitcoin revenue, I want the entity to distribute the revenue to "shareholders" in proportion to their ownership stake. Whats the best way to do this?
2  Other / Meta / Why do people post "Reserving (language) translation"? on: December 16, 2017, 05:08:57 PM
What does that even mean? I've been wondering this for years and thought I'd finally ask.
3  Other / Meta / Where do you post an Altcoin project on: January 27, 2017, 07:43:34 PM
Theres a section under Bitcoin called Project Development but where do you post a project involving an Altcoin?
4  Other / Meta / Adding image to a post on: January 26, 2017, 05:49:38 PM
How do you add an image to your post? When I click the image icon it just inserts . So I've pasted a bunch or website URLs that have images (like http://imgur.com/gallery/XkaQi) and I tried pasting images from my desktop like (coin_export.png). Nothing seems to work. Please help a tech illiterate figure this out?

6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What is the purpose of a Pre-Ann? on: January 18, 2017, 08:30:34 PM
I'm just wondering what exactly is the purpose of an Coin/ICO Pre-announcement. Why not just make the announcement?
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How do you reserve coin code for new coin? on: January 18, 2017, 05:43:59 AM
Lets say you're starting a new coin. How do you reserve the 3 or 4 letter code for the coin that all coins seem to have. And with whom do you register it? And what's the purpose or significance of the code?
8  Economy / Exchanges / Moving a BTC Address to Coinbase on: January 17, 2017, 07:56:17 PM
So lets say I've created a Bitcoin address but I want to manage it within Coinbase so I can avail myself of their features, including the Vault feature. Is this possible?
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What's the Significance of 3 Letter Coin Codes on: January 15, 2017, 07:50:50 PM
For instance why is Bitcoin shown as BTC, Ethereum as ETH, and Ripple as XRP? Does every new coin have to pick a 3 letter designator?
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Best way to pay BTC "dividend" via Altcoin? on: January 11, 2017, 09:28:40 PM
Lets say that I want to pay out BTC to owners of an altcoin in proportion to their ownership percentage of the coin. Whats the best way to do that? For instance, GEMZ is a Counterparty asset (altcoin). Every GEMZ address is also a BTC address. Is there any easy way to distribute BTC automatically to all GEMZ owners in proportion to their ownership?
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Why Are Coin Devs/Promoters Involved In Obtaining Exchange Listings? on: January 10, 2017, 10:54:08 PM
In other words, lets say I create a 100% pre-mined token and I do an ICO to sell half of it off. Why is it necessary for me to have any contact or interaction with the various cryptocurrency exchanges? I mean, once the coins are out there, if there's a market for them, won't exchanges just list them? They don't need permission or technical assistance from the developer, do they?
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What's the Point of ICO Escrow? on: January 10, 2017, 06:06:35 AM
So, lets say you've developed a new altcoin and you're going to do an ICO. How does escrow protect coin purchasers? I mean, the dev team is eventually going to get access to the BTC at the end of the crowdsale, at which point they could just steal it all.
13  Bitcoin / Project Development / Creating Simple BTC Wallet App (IOS) on: April 27, 2016, 03:32:10 AM
I would like to create an extremely simple Bitcoin wallet app for the App store. It will sort of look like this:

Balance: {Bitcoin Balance here}

Public Key: {Public Key here}

Send [enter amount here] BTC

To: [paste receiving address here]

SEND>

Anyone know the easiest way to do this? (i.e. available open source tools, etc)

BTW, Im not technical and would probably use a coder from Upwork/Odesk.
14  Economy / Trading Discussion / What to do with ill-gotten Bitcoin? on: February 06, 2016, 08:44:14 PM
This is a question I've long been curious about. Its entirely academic for me because I have no BTC at all, let alone ill-gotten BTC. But how would you convert huge amounts of your illicit BTC into cash, gold, and other fungible items without implicating yourself?
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What are the biggest faults of BTC & how would you fix them? on: February 05, 2016, 08:15:14 PM
Put another way, if you could go back in time to before BTC was launched and suggest changes to the original code to Satoshi Nakamoto, what would you suggest?
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Whats the Deal with Altcoins that Have a Market Cap under $1,000? on: January 16, 2016, 04:54:47 AM
I see a bunch of coins on Coinmarketcap.com (http://coinmarketcap.com/3) that have market caps under $1,000. Many have websites associated with them, have some trading volume, and are traded on exchanges. Instead of starting my own altcoin, should I just buy up 90% of one of these altcoins? I don't get how they can be worth so little?
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / I'm Tech-Impaired But in Charge of Spearheading Development of an Altcoin on: January 08, 2016, 08:28:01 PM
I'm just going to lay it all out there. I and a partner (with coding help from a contractor offshore) are developing an IOS app that could best be described as a sort of Reddit with some interesting twists that I won't bore you with, except to say that one of the features involves the ability to upvote or downvote posts and comments. This will serve the familiar purpose of allowing users to view posts in order of popularity as well as to effectively police content that is objectionable, boring, spam, etc... So far nothing groundbreaking or unique. Our initial concept involved users being awarded points they would accumulate based on their positive contributions on the app. However, on reflection, it occurred to us that it would have more impact if we switched from awarding meaningless points to awarding units of our own cryptocurrency.

So, our app is 90% done. But we believe that the cryptocurrency feature could make it much more interesting and we want to create a cryptocurrency and build a wallet into the app prior to releasing it this spring. My challenge is that I don't even know what I don't know in this area.

I also had another related thought that could theoretically infuse our contemplated cryptocurrency with value that is linked to the future success of our company. Specifically, I wondered what might happen if we allocated 20% of our company's common stock (founder's shares) into a trust independent of the company. The trust document would direct the trustee to hold the stock for at least 5 years and then make best efforts to liquidate the stock and use the cash proceeds to purchase any outstanding units of the cryptocurrency that had thenceforth been awarded to users at a price per unit equal to the total stock sale proceeds divided by the total number of outstanding units of cryptocurrency. The idea is that by linking our cryptocurrency to the performance of our company's stock, we would (a) increase the value of the cryptocurrency and (b) provide owners of the cryptocurrency an incentive to support the growth of the app.

Coming from a place of crypto-ignorance, a few questions come to mind (and I'd be much indebted to anyone who can help with answers, criticism or ideas):

1. Should we start our own coin from scratch or use some service/platform like NXT, Cryptonote, etc?

2. What kind of coin should it be? POW? POS? Should it be 100% pre-mined by our company? After all, it will be the company that awards coins to users.

3. Is there a simple way to manage the coin without us having in-house technological expertise (i.e. an online interface or service provider)?

4. How do we build and incorporate a simple wallet for our cryptocurrency into our app? Should we find someone on Odesk(Upwork) or are there developers available somewhere on these forums.

5. How much is this all going to cost?

Humbly,

-IgnitionDefect

18  Bitcoin / Project Development / Envisioned: Decentralized, Trustless Betting (Predictions) on: August 15, 2014, 08:36:45 PM
Looking for a developer to execute my vision of a decentralized application that takes bets on future events and automatically judges results through a search-engine based algorithm. Ideal for sportsbetting. You code, I focus on marketing. Your equity: 70%. Mine: 30%. PM me if interested.
19  Bitcoin / Project Development / Fingerprint-authenticated BTC on: August 07, 2014, 06:33:15 PM
I was reading about PayByTouch, the company that allowed consumers to pay for items with a swipe of their finger on a biometric sensor. Fingerprints and BTC seem like they are naturals for each other, particularly with consumers who are less interested in privacy than they are convenience. Maybe your fingerprint is used to generate your keys and then is forever associated with them through some sort of protocol?
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Idea for a New Alt-Coin on: August 07, 2014, 06:17:00 PM
What about a coin that's integrated with its own online zero-house edge casino that only accepts that coin. When the house loses, new coins are created to honor the bet. When the player loses, those coins are basically just burned (sent to an address for which there is no privkey). Demand for new coins would come from players attempting to escalate their Martingale strategies.
