1  Economy / Gambling discussion / Gambling therapy on: June 20, 2024, 12:32:33 PM
I heard about gambling therapy and it prick my mind to which I asked myself when last did I  go for gambling therapy? I could recall and that's because I have never had one since I believe am gambling responsibly.

What's gambling therapy?
Gambling Therapy is a free, global online service offering practical advice and emotional support to anyone affected by problem gambling link
Yeah, you read that correctly , it says people affected by gambling problem. But after reading I took an opposing view about it because gambling therapy shouldn't be something simply painted exclusively for people with gambling addiction problems alone. In as much as you're a gambler, whether  a gambler that has his gambling habit under control, going for a gambling therapy should be a habit we should acculturate ourselves with, at least twice a year (ones in every 6months).

We go for monthly or quarterly health routine checkups not only because we're sick but to  reduce any risk of getting sick before knowing. Right? same behavior can be applied to gambling , do you agree or it's not necessary until you start getting a gambling problem .
2  Economy / Gambling discussion / How did/do you handled a gambling addict story. on: May 27, 2024, 10:32:02 PM
Gambling addiction can be very terrible and frustrating that it affects both your financial and emotional wellbeing.  There are lots of gamblers out there in the open struggling with gambling addiction  wishing to share their pains with someone who could understand, but they don't actually know the right person(s) to confide in about the pains they bear as they fear that they will be judged, criticized and the rest.

I had this conversation with a stranger today, he had to tell me a few things he's struggling with with his gambling habit and how he had tried to put an end to it but finds himself going back to same habits thereafter. And he felt that  talking to somebody about it will help his state but instead the person he felt comfortable talking to about was so judgemental towards him which had made him resort to self-help but nothing has really changed.

Has anyone gambling addict shared his situation with you and how did you handled it? please come clean about it let's learn from each other.
3  Economy / Gambling discussion / Does destiny has influence in the amount we can win in gamble? on: May 16, 2024, 08:53:27 PM
I was just having this thought just within myself (more of an opinion) about some comments have read in the gambling board and complains from gamblers outside the forum, that ever since they have been gambling they have never won a bet amounting to a thousand dollars for it has always been below, while some others say that no matter how much high or low amount they have constantly be using to stake in order to win millions it has never favoured them that it has only been a few thousand bucks they had been lucky to win.

But then, I also find out that there are people that will just start gambling for a short time and boom they have won a jackpot in millions when people that have been there years before them are struggling to win even thousands.

And this makes me to come to a hypothetical conclusion that in gambling each and every person is individually destiny to within the range of certain amount of win. And that if you are not destined to win the high amount you are after, you will never be able to no matter how much you use or the strategy you apply to your bets.

Not to bore us with many words... I want to ask to know about forum members opinions and views about this. Is it what it is or it's just a fallacy?
4  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Is this government just all about taxes? on: May 07, 2024, 09:28:35 AM
Hey guys have you seen this, CBN directs banks to impose 0.5% cybersecurity levy on all transactions

Two weeks from now any fiat transaction Nigerians makes a levy fee of 0.5 per cent will be charged from your account and according to the government they tagged it cyber security levy, and this is outside other already existing bank charges we have been paying for before now.  You can read the full news in details here

Is this government just all about taxes?
5  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Naira appreciation against dollar not affecting the price of goods. Why? on: March 26, 2024, 03:17:23 PM
For the past two days now the Naira has for what we will say been regaining value against the Dollar at a former rate of $1 to #1,500 to currently at around $1 to #1,234.56 as at the time I was putting this note together.

Now the main point of my writing is this. In the market we have been facing a sharp constant increase in the prices of goods and services with marketers and business owners blaming it on the rate of dollar against the Naira which has in turn led to the rise in prices of the goods and services, the baffling aspect is how this has to also affect locally produce goods like garri, yam, beans, corn, and the list is endless.

Right now the Naira is gaining weight in the parallel market for the past two day or more and yet there has not been any drop in the price of goods and services in the country, instead we are continuously experiencing the price increase of goods and services. On a normal circumstance we are supposed to be feeling the effect of the Naira appreciation but reverse is the case.

So what's the significance of the appreciation of Naira at this moment to the Nigeria economy since we are not feeling that effect on the prices of goods and services up till now? Or it's this just a manipulative sham.
6  Economy / Gambling discussion / International break's in football. on: March 23, 2024, 05:17:58 PM
Was just listening to this kind of talkshow on radio and felt I bring it to the forum to get forum members thoughts concerning it too.
Just for discussion and to get people's opinion on this interesting questions.

As football club fans we all know how boring those weekend's on international breaks for clubs usually feels like. For a fan like me it's like the whole world just stands still and everything seems irregular all through the weekends staying without club matches.

so will you as a football club fan wish/like it if international breaks is scrapped in football yearly calendar, so we can continue watching our favorite football club leagues and teams all the weekends and midweeks. Are you a fan of international breaks or not let's know your thoughts.

Another interesting question is this, as a father would you force it on your child to also fan the same club you're a fan to, or you will allow him be himself to fan any club of his choice even if it's your most rival club of all times.

7  Other / Off-topic / Let's talk about self investment too. on: March 19, 2024, 02:35:13 PM
When the word investment is made mentioned of in the forum all everyone talks or thinks about is money investment into one project or another, and how to make profit from it after a short, medium or long term of investing.

Not more or less is discussed about self investment , in other words, investing in yourself, regularly adding value to yourself and due to how valuable you become this value in turn brings money to your pocket. For by learning  lucrative skills, striving to regularly improve on it you turn resourceful with a transformative potential to create and acquire a quality life in the future.
Self investment can't be overemphasized.
8  Economy / Gambling discussion / A call to self-examining our gambling habit. on: March 09, 2024, 03:01:52 AM
As gambler when last did you self-examine your gambling habit to create that awareness based on how you are gambling in order for you to be quite sure if you're within a considerable or an acceptable range of a gambling habit that is void of addiction or the tendencies of gambling addiction.

I think if gamblers could take certain step in setting up regular self examining question towards themself it will be helpful to them in their gambling life not to ignorantly be harbouring a gambling addiction or compulsive gambling lifestyle. Quite a number of gamblers are nursing an addictive gambling habit without knowing and for them their gambling life is normal but if they should  genuinely scrutinize or put their habit to test it is possible they could find varied errors to correct and be right on track again.

Don't you think so?
9  Economy / Gambling discussion / Have you had this gambling experience? on: March 02, 2024, 06:31:49 PM
I don't know if other gamblers have gotten this experience maybe ones or more throughout their time as gamblers. Cause I have had this experience a few times though I can't actually pinpoint the numbers.

There have been times I just out of no serious interest or enthusiasm just decide to try a few predictions on football games and due to the lack of interest in the games just decides to stake with a very low amount and boom, the games played, and you just realized the money won is nothing to be glad about.

But on certain day's i take the game seriously and put my mind into it and as a result had to stake in a good tangible amount of money to have the potential money to be won big but the games don't usual play despite all of the seriousness and analysis exerted into putting up the games.

This weekend I had that awkward experience again and the funny aspect is that it doesn't in anyway come to mind to remember to increase the stake seeing how reluctant I was feeling when booking the games just like other random times

Does anyone also has it this way at one time or the other with their predictions.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Just hodl, bitcoin will do the silencing. on: February 29, 2024, 07:48:42 AM
Today I read about the news of El Salvador bitcoin hodling investment yielding about 40% profit and i had to imagine that 40% in figures in contrast to the amount of dollars El Salvador hold in BTC. But nevertheless, this is not the main issue I wish to focus on in this thread, I just want to divert a little.

Sometimes back when bitcoin price was that low ($16k) a few investors if not many felt discouraged with a flinching desire to sell in fears that the price might keep getting low and addition to the lies and negative rumors from bitcoin haters about bitcoin falling further low even to zero, these lies made many bitcoin holders to hurriedly sell even at a lost.

When #Bitcoin’s market price was low, they wrote literally thousands of articles about our supposed losses.

Now that #Bitcoin’s market price is way up, if we were to sell, we would make a profit of over 40% (just from the market purchases), and our main source of BTC is now our citizenship program.

We won’t sell, or course; at the end 1 BTC = 1 BTC (this was true when the market price was low and it’s true now); but it’s very telling that the authors of those hit pieces, the “analysts”, the “experts”, the “journalists”, are totally silent now
El Salvador President, Bukele was exempted, critics made a lot of noise in the media with many articles about El Salvador's bitcoin investment heading to a loss but the Salvadoran President didn't deter in his resolute not to sell but resolved to keep holding not listening to all the critics. Today El Salvador is 40% in profit  in their bitcoin investment as bitcoin price keeps rising, 40% when the halving has yet occured, and the next ATH not yet hit, how much more when it all does.

I think all bitcoin investors needs to take a leaf and learn from Bukele's firmness and resolve to HODLing even under strong press, criticism from the so-called experts.  Today everyone is praising him for for holding firm.
Remember this; bitcoin will always silent the critics, our role is to just hold patiently strong.
11  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / A call to fully regulate cryptocurrency for Naija. on: February 12, 2024, 12:29:17 PM
One man them call Owonibi wey be blockchain and digital forensic expert don talk put for the ears of Nigeria government say make them fully regulate all crypto activities unto say as federal government don through the  CBN  finally lift the ban wey stop banks from offering cryptocurrency services to people for we country.

Expert Calls for Full Cryptocurrency Regulation in Nigeria to Mitigate Digital Asset-Related Financial Crimes
According to this Owonibi, eim say this complete regulation go curb all financial crime activities wey them the use crypto do, eim come use terrorist as one of the people wey the use crypto the run transactions to fund their terrorist activities.  Say make banks get vetting with crypto exchanges so that users no go fit the run illegal transactions.

Finally, say as this regulation go take place make government also train and educate financial crime agencies make them know how to enforce this regulatory policies when them enact am.

My fear about this na the transparency of the regulators in the process of enforcing the regulatory laws if them finally enact. Because with the way this our Naija dey it no the hard them to just frame anybody make them use am clear road while the actual criminals the walka broad day light freely.

12  Economy / Gambling discussion / How's problem gambling different from compulsive gambling. on: February 08, 2024, 08:22:39 AM
Was reading a gambling related article just this morning and it was talking on random issues cut across gambling responsibly, many of which I agree with.

However, there were two terms that were made mentioned of which stole my interest unfortunately they weren't explained but only mentioned. I could have just checked them on Google but I felt reluctant and said let me bring it to the community let make it a discussion among us. The two terms were Problem Gambling and Compulsive Gambling. I want to know if they are different in meaning and how different is their effect on their victims.

And moreso, there's a statement I read in the comment section which is in the quote below. I would love to have the views of slot lovers in the forum on this. How true is this statement.
All slot players are long term losers.
13  Economy / Gambling discussion / Gambling can be a hope restorer if we go about it wisely! on: January 17, 2024, 07:28:18 PM
As a responsible gambler it gladdens my heart always whenever I hear a fellow gambler testify of how he won a bulky amount of money from be it a bet or lotto and uses that money to inject into something meaningful for himself.

It all happened on my way home just this evening. I boarded a public bus and just in front of me were seated two young men too in their late thirty's having a conversation and from the conversation it sound like they haven't met for a long time and one was telling the other of how he had won a big amount of money from a lotto he played and he has used the money to get himself a new bus for public transportation business.

According to him, he once had a bus before which he was using for the transport business (carrying of passengers) but was seized and confiscated by the authority for he used it in conveying contraband goods of which he was hired to carry to some location by the goods owner on the way law enforcement agents stop them did a search and that was how he lost that vehicle.

So winning that money he quickly went ahead to get a new bus to continue his public transport business. From his voice he seems like one whose lost hope has been restored by that single win. Gambling can be a life saver too for it's not as bad as non-gamblers portrays it. To all gamblers' when you get lucky make good use of your gambling win do not chase for double portion.
14  Economy / Economics / How to stay poor! on: January 10, 2024, 09:52:21 AM
As a businessman or salary earners here are tips on how to stay poor in life. Grin

1. Spending your money on unnecessary items immediately the money arrives. Trying to prove a point to people by living a standard that is above your pay grade.

2. Live on one source of income. Everyday of our life our responsibilities and challenges keeps piling up accumulating without consideration to our financial capability. The economy and cost of living continue getting worsen. So in order not to be able to beat this piling settle comfortably on a single source of income flow.

3. Become an extremely cheerful giver/lender to friends and family. A wisdom quote I read somewhere said, "if you want to lose your friends and family lend them money".  Keeping doing this and you going to be successfully poor.

4.Learn how not to mind your own business, making every events around you your concern even when it doesn't affect you. It's a nice way to make cool enemies. Etc.

I trust you all get the sarcasm as conveyed.
15  Economy / Gambling discussion / Will you be worried or comfortable seeing your elderly mother gambling? on: January 08, 2024, 09:35:19 AM
A woman (elderly) was spotted in a gambling shop seriously making predictions on virtual gaming and with the way she plays it appears that she has been gambling for a long time now. But what really caught people's attention after spending much time gambling for that day  was her reaction which expresses frustration and disappointment from someone that must have lost a pool of cash to unfavourable gambling prediction's for the day. The image below says it all.

This specific image led some Nigerians to ponder why an elderly woman would engage in betting. Questions arose, with some wondering whether the woman aimed to elevate her blood pressure or if she had used shared contributions for virtual betting.

There are places where it's  normal and a regular thing seeing elderly women gambling in a gamble shop but in this part of the world it is uncommon and for that it seems weird seeing such an elderly woman seriously gambling and that's why many persons are pondering about her engagement in betting.

However, I want to know as forum members from different parts of the world your thought's towards this based on your environmental perspective towards gambling irrespective of whosoever is involved be it young or elderly in as much as the individual is of gambling age.

Lastly, will you feel comfortable or worried knowing that your mother is a dedicated gambler; and if you feel worried are you worried that she may be losing a pool of cash or your worried because you fear for her health as gamblers can get negative emotions when losing money.
16  Economy / Gambling discussion / Focus on how much you may lose and not only the potential win. on: January 03, 2024, 02:19:12 PM
There are gamblers that have a bad plan or no plan at all about their life, they gamble with whatever amount they have rather than what they can afford to lose that won't be a worry to them if lost. There's this thought that am sure almost every gambler that have won a bet before must have had. which is the thought of "had I knew this game was going to win  I would have used bigger amount of money to wager".

A situation where the stake for the bet he won was $1k, the next statement you hear is how wish I knew I would have staked with $5k. The question is, the $5k is it an amount of money that you can be comfortable losing or it's just out of greed that you are not contented with the win amount the $1k gave you.

The fact that you won  using $1k today doesn't give assurance that if you had used higher amount or that your next bet that you probably increased the wager in order to win a bigger amount will play. As gamblers let not focus all attention on the amount that we may by chance of luck win but on what we are to lose should we fail to win the bet, in that way we won't spend on gambling above what we can afford to lose.
Stay in check!
17  Economy / Gambling discussion / License: is it a guarantee? on: December 27, 2023, 05:49:32 PM
Almost every gamblers notably those that make use of online Casino's for their gambling have the notion that except from a license owned casino they don't use any  casino without a license, which I think is a cautious thing to do.

But have been wondering and wanting to ask, does a license guarantees that a casino won't scam it's customer's going forward.
18  Economy / Gambling discussion / Who should quit, and why? on: December 10, 2023, 11:55:58 AM
Hey house someone need a few clips here, don't know if a post of this exact nature has been discussed though.

In a situation where the both spouse are gamblers. Husband gambles, wife gambles, how can both of them manage the situation in terms of finance and the family affairs especially when children are now involve so that the time both spends on gambling doesn't affect family moments and affairs in general.

Would it help if  one of the couple quit for the other and if that's the case who should quit for who.
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Only Sell what you don't need. on: November 29, 2023, 01:16:23 PM
Have seen many posts in the forum posters sharing their excitement about how they sold their property's to buy bitcoin and that's what called for this thread. Some claim to have sold land/landed properties, cars and other equipments. Yeah' no body has a right to dictate for you on how or what to do with your property , it is yours anyways.

However, you need to apply wisdom when taking such steps of selling a property to invest in bitcoin, make sure the property you are selling off you don't need it (a property you can afford to lose) because there is a risk in bitcoin investment the embedded risk of volatility shouldn't be neglected.

Lastly, whatever property you have decided you must sell off,  you could always sell divide the money, use part of the money realized to invest in bitcoin stead of using all of it, and then using the other amount remaining to buy another of that property elsewhere for a lower rate.

Now this is what I mean: assuming you sold your piece of landform $20k, you use $10-13k to invest in bitcoin and the remaining $7k to buy another land somewhere at a cheap rate. Surely, with years the value of that land will always appreciate so you still have a land (only that it's at a different location) while you invest in bitcoin stead of using (risking) all the money at ones.

Just my two cents.
20  Economy / Gambling discussion / A gambler's family action. on: November 12, 2023, 09:45:42 PM
During the weekend I was listening to an evening programme from one our the local radio stations they were discussing about gambling, the effects and how to manage it if you might be struggling with  addiction. And they had listeners calling in to share personal experiences or of a loved one that gambles and amidst many callers there was this very caller story that caught my interest and curiosity.

She told about how the family members of a particular young man that is like a plunger when it comes to gambling, his compulsive gambling is to the length of him selling his personal properties and gadgets to make sure he gambles. So what he family did was to print a photograph of him and giving it to all the gambling shops within their neighborhood and around the locality, threatening that any of the gambling shops they have pasted the photo of their brother should they find their brother allowed to gamble in the shops they will sue the gamble shop owner to court as one that is abetting their brother's compulsive gambling lifestyle.

Now, while I was quietly listening to the story in my head I began to ask myself several possible  questions and one of such questions was; is it not possible that this young man can take a cab away from their location and move to a far area to carry out his gambling since his a compulsive gambler.

Just two questions here:
1. Dis the family of this young man went too extreme in trying to help stop their brother from gambling addiction or not?

2. Assuming you are this young man and you had to run to a distant location to carry out your gambling as you are allowed to gambling within your neighborhood and luckily you won huge sum of million dollars. Would you share that money with your loved ones who were barring you from gambling or you will just stay off from them and live new found wealthy live alone?

Share your thoughts!
