1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Emulating the decentralised infrastructure on: March 09, 2024, 02:30:37 PM
Many objections have been made towards the adoption of Bitcoin as a generally acceptable legal tender except for countries like El Salvador which happens to be the first ever country to accept bitcoin as legal tender in June 2021. Estonia is another strong contender for top countries where crypto and Bitcoin is regarded as legal tender.

One big limitation that might accompany the adoption of Bitcoin as legal tender for most countries still dragging their foot towards this adoption is the issue of tax regulations , inadequate consumer protection, Financial institution reluctance, I will also add concerns to the environment.

If we must emulate this decentralised infrastructure in our everyday experience except for the concern of taxation and consumer protection I have the notion that every other limitations can be discarded and treated as irrelevant.

Take the financial institution for example this set centralised entity has done more harm lately than good to the wellbeing of their consumers right. And because this act is been fueled by most country leadership the citizens just have no guts to complain but rather endure and tolerate this excesses.

In my humble opinion decentralisation will do our world more good especially now the centralised system of government is having lapses and loopholes
2  Other / Beginners & Help / Project management can be useful as an investor on: December 23, 2023, 03:25:07 PM
Initiating, having a well defined plan, possessing full control, having executable qualities, monitoring and then closing an investment laid down plan is on tricky methodology to find a good walk around in the crypto market.

You will agree with me that a work broken-down structure where every detail on how to ensure a project is properly analysed and determined gives better edge to the investor because it doesn't just tell an investor how to start an investment it also helps the investor to know when to close and re-strategize.

For a project plan to be very effective it will require proper planning and well defined goals. Most times having excessive knowledge doesn't guarantee good outcome but strategic planning and follow ups can do the magic.

I was just thinking for projects that have no defined road map and vision it is better to avoid them than gamble them. Because I strongly believe a project that Isn't analysable is invariably a gambling tool in the crypto market. Even crypto assets that has a roadmap once the investor can't spot the defined patterns hidden behind the asset it automatically becomes a gambling tool.
3  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / What influences your decisions on: December 01, 2023, 09:35:32 AM
Crypto generally is a game of high risk to reward ratio. As a crypto trader and enthusiast what do u base your decisions on.
When you decide on  those investment plan and draft what are the things you consider most.

Trading and investment can be a full time job if well managed and properly planned. And this can also be a big life changer if well managed. So for education sake I will like to know how people make their own decision so we all can grow in this volatile market together
4  Economy / Economics / The power of investment choices on: December 01, 2023, 09:28:50 AM
It's not enough having an investment plan, knowing the right choice to make for every investment defines the investor better. Take for example jumping on every new coin we find on reputable exchange might not be enough guarantee that coin will do well in the future.

Some coin might have good Supply but low liquidity, some might have high market capitalisation but very poor volatility. Although it's hard to predict the accuracy of a coin performance in the near future this why it is always advised to stick to the known which is BTC.

Another option is to spread ones portfolio amongst different coins but ensuring the have a greater percentage in projects with a visible future. It is better to win small and lose less than lose more and win less
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Is Bitcoin for everyone? on: October 21, 2023, 05:50:24 PM
I am asking this because not everyone has made tangible profit for holding. Just like myself I end up selling at a loss most times just to solve a problem. Some might be lucky to buy at a low rate and within few weeks or months the price just pumps to their favour. This kept me wondering if Bitcoin is actually for every one or it is a scheme for selected individuals..
6  Economy / Economics / Is there a formula for Bitcoin starters? on: October 21, 2023, 05:41:12 PM
Starting Bitcoin investment with little capital will be very challenging mostly if that happens to be the major survival option of the investor. And in cases where the investor plans on using the proceed to solve their needs they might end up selling when the price have dropped just to settle the pressing need of that time.

As experienced investors are there measures that can be imbibed by new investors with little capital to help boast their capital. Some will want to mention patience which I will agree to but in situations where the money is needed to meet an emergency need how to you tackle such situations. Your formula might be a saving approach.
7  Other / Beginners & Help / If you were to unlearn something about BTC…. on: October 21, 2023, 05:29:42 PM
Have you ever felt having a good knowledge about a certain subject matter on Bitcoin only to start a conversion or thread on the topic and end up discovering the information had lots of mistakes and misconception. How did you really feel about those subject matters and what was your approach towards the observation and correction made by other users on your thread.

While the concept of Bitcoin in general is broad and wide having a good knowledge of certain topic will require constant research and studying some of the concepts will even require experience and user interactivity. Example is the technical aspect of Bitcoin. I will like to discuss this how long do you spend doing research for a particular topic before making your post or do you have a glimpse of the subject matter get a good summary of it and then start a conversation or quality research is done followed by reviews before engaging in  a conversation?
8  Other / Off-topic / The emotion we feel differently on: September 26, 2023, 06:19:09 AM
Losses happen to be part human existence. At some point we all must have lost something or someone we so much cherish and value. I won't want to go towards the direction of our loved ones so I don't open up dead wounds but I will like to talk about what we value so much in the past that was either taken from us by force, lost out of carelessness, stolen by friends.

I was talking to a friend who shared her story of how she was robbed by some men who disguised as clergymen. She was resistant at first but later lost her consciousness and didn't know when she went to withdraw all the money in her account and handed over to them. It was when the left her shop she came back to her senses. Another shared a story of how he lost his phone. To him it was gotten through random contributions from friends and close relatives and there was no hope of getting another…

I my quest to compare the pains of both persons I came to this conclusion both of them lost valuables in their own capacity and the pain both of them faced wasn't different from each other and it sprung a strong debate that I think I should get some reaction her to base my own assumption.
9  Economy / Speculation / After the bull-run plan. on: September 25, 2023, 04:45:30 PM
We are all aware of Bitcoin halving that is predicted to happen by next year 2024. The first halving in November 2012 moved the price of bitcoin from $12 to $200 in one year. The second halving which took place in July 9, 2016, pushed the price of Bitcoin to $19,700 in one year. In the last halving in May 2020, Bitcoin’s price surged from $8,787 to nearly $69,000 in November 2021. It is usual for the price of Bitcoin to fall immediately after each bull run but the price of Bitcoin has kept appreciating above past bull runs.

During this events block rewards for miners get reduced by half as part of Bitcoin protocol design which happens every four years to manage the rate at which new Bitcoin are generated. As regards to this many predict a possible pump might accompany the next halving which is not a guarantee because the relationship between halving and price pump is really complicated.

The general assumption for so many bitcoiners is that the bull run is a time to sell and make a profit. There is nothing wrong with selling and making a profit but it is also important to have an after-the-bull run plan. The bull run shouldn't be the end of your Bitcoin investment, so there is no need to sell all your holdings. The future of Bitcoin is far beyond next year's bull run,  so it is time to plan ahead of the season. I have observed that most people who make money from Bitcoin don't just have a four-year investment plan. Some of them have kept their coins for a decade which means they have a long-term plan. If you don't have an after-the-bull-run plan, you might not have the opportunity to accumulate Bitcoin that you have sold.

If we pay close attention at the market moves we will notice a few principal factor have also contributed to how price have moved during this season:

Market Sentiment: If we watch how investors perceive the market during this season and how the go about with their sentimental investment approach we see how much it significantly affect market price. While we anticipate for the next halving let's not forget The crypto market can be full of hypes and optimism, which may lead to one of two things negligence or increased buying activity and price appreciation.

Historical Precedent: From past occurrences,  Bitcoin has experienced significant price rallies following previous halvings, which in itself is very logical. When the supply gets reduced more attention will be drawn to the asset which could load to higher prices but using past performance to predict future result might not be positive all the time.

Market Speculation: During this seasons we see traders and investors try to take advantage of the price movement around Bitcoin halving. Since this often leads to high speculative activities their is always chances of price volatility occurrence.

External Factors: We shouldn't also forget other external factors like regulatory development which has always been one of the key battle line for Bitcoin as well as global events, adoption trends and macroeconomic conditions.

Conclusion :
It is principal to note that in as much as Bitcoin halving has the potential of creating a very conducive market structure for price increase, It is never a guarantee. We all know the market is volatile and subject to speculative and rapid fluctuations. So a long-term plan in view could be one way to approach the market so that it don't take us unawares.

Lastly in all investments and trading decisions ensure to conduct thorough research and pay more attention to the volatility of the market that could also serve as guide in what direction to take during the halving.
10  Other / Beginners & Help / What a tree the Merkle Tree on: September 08, 2023, 06:46:53 PM
Transaction blocks would have remained so bulky and more resource demanding if merkle trees wasn't introduced. Maybe the cost of making a successful p2p transaction would have been so discouraging. But with the level of structured transaction data and less resourceful demands the merkle tree introduced to the blockchain through hashing of a made transaction with an equivalent hash value where by hash values that are produced are paired with another hash value so they can be hashed again.

This hashing keeps going on until a final hash value is produces the merkle root which provided the general summary of all the transactions of the block it contains which then gets inserted into the block header. And this process makes it more resource managing and efficient for transaction to get structured in a tree like entry reserving more space in the blockchain.

Lets say we have a hash value 'BC' which gets combined with another has "BD" the both will create a "BCD" hash such that the data remains temper proof and unaltered.

Benefits of Markle Tree
  • It doesn't consume disk space
  • Validates data integrity and consistency
  • It provides a very efficient data format
  • It is flexible enough to provide just tiny chunks of data across networks

11  Other / Beginners & Help / Are there crypto related freelancing sites around? on: August 25, 2023, 06:17:44 PM
please I will need guidance on how to get started with freelancing but will prefer if there are crypto based specifically Bitcoin as main payment option. I am a complete novice as regards freelancing and will like to know how best to set up a catchy profile that will be outstanding and unique one that will make my skills more marketable.
12  Economy / Trading Discussion / ~If you must trade~ on: August 02, 2023, 10:37:01 PM
I was having this strong contemplation, between emotion and patience which factor affects traders the most. I know we have other factors that can make a trader experience huge losses such as FUD, greed, lack of contentment, indiscipline and high expectations and over zealousness.

But I had to narrow my scope to just the emotional and patient factors. I am sure many traders can relate better with this two factors compared to the rest this lead me to seek the answer from traders and prospective traders which do you think should be handled with more caution and between the two which has higher chances of helping a trader have at least 70% of total control of their profit cycle.
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Hash Rate and Zeros on: July 31, 2023, 07:24:55 AM
Introduction
Hash Rate can be said to be the speed at which a computer is able to perform hashing computations. Hashing is simply the process where by a numeric or alphanumeric string is assigned to a piece of data through a functional method that ensures the output values maintains the same number of bits in length. In the context of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, the hash rate is what determines the efficiency and performance of a mining machine. It is the determinant of  how fast a mining hardware operates when trying to compute a valid block hash.

It can be said that mining has to do with a countless hashing attempts, until a valid hash is produced. Which means, a Bitcoin miner needs to keep making attempts on a bunch of data to produce a hash through hash functions which is realised only when a specific hash value is generated

I need clarity here
  • Must this hash value start with a specific number of zeros
  • With this can I say that hash rate is directly proportional to a specific miner or pools profitablilty

Since hash rates are measured in hashes per second (h/s) which might include SI prefixes like mega, giga, or tera. For instance, a blockchain network that computes one trillion hashes per second would have a hash rate of 1 Th/s. With the hash rate of Bitcoin hitting 1,000 Th/s in 2013 can miners use mining hardwares other than ASIC miners?

14  Other / Beginners & Help / ~For a transaction that takes too long~ on: July 16, 2023, 05:08:58 AM
Many newbie might not have come across RBF or even if they have they might not know what it really mean or its contribution to making transaction that seem to delay get confirmed faster. I know this might have been discussed severally but pardon me. I am trying to see if I can come up with a much simpler definition that will help we the novices take advantage of the extra functionalities of most wallets to process unconfirmed transaction faster.

RBF: This is an acronym for Replace By Fee and as the name implies it means paying higher fees to make an unconfirmed transaction competitive. In real sense everyone is after the benefit so a higher fee will attract more  attention because miners will receive higher fees upon selecting the transaction.

It can also be said to be a process of replacing one version of an unconfirmed transaction with another version but this time paying a higher fee. RBF was first introduced in BIP125 and Bitcoin core 0.12.0 saw its first implementation. By implementation I mean usage..

There are variations in the RBF rules due to the different software nodes available but the most popular and widely used is BIP125 opt-in RBF as implemented in Bitcoin Core 0.12.0. This very version of RBF gives the opportunity for transaction creators to decide if they are willing to allow their transaction get replaced with a version that pays a higher-fee.

Just imagine creating a transaction and it stays unconfirmed for long because there are other other transactions that are willing to pay higher fees. It might make that transaction stay even longer than expected, except the transaction time does not really matter.

But what if the time the creator have is short, another broadcast will be done. This new transaction is just the same as the previous one the only difference will be the the inclusion of a higher fees. This will make the transaction more competitive for block space because miners will receive  more for selecting that transaction.

Wallets :
The following wallets allows easy use of RBF
  • Electrum
  • Blockstream Green

15  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitcoin Rural vs Urban Awareness? on: June 22, 2023, 08:17:37 PM
As regards the wide spread of Bitcoin in our today society which should be of utmost priority? more awareness in urban cities or Exposure in rural communities? This might not be applicable to all nations but there are many rural communities cut across many nations around the world who don't still don't understand what Bitcoin is all about, what it values are and what it represent in our modern financial society.

Specifically in Cameroon, Nigeria and Ghana where I have stayed in at different time, I discovered many rural areas in this countries still find it difficult differentiating Bitcoin from Ponzi schemes. In this case will sensitising people in this areas be a vain adventure following their  mindset.

And how fast will adaptation and acceptance take place. And are there any technique one can apply to impact this persons on the advantage of embracing Bitcoin without sounding like a scammer or a deceitful person. I don't know if any one has had similar encounter In time past.
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Create wealth first before the use of bitcoin on: December 08, 2022, 10:00:03 AM
I have always come across people giving stories to promote bitcoin or give awareness of bitcoin in rural areas. It is a very nice job to tell people about bitcoin because it is the major currency in the world.  In this rural area how can bitcoin be used when majority of people in the the town are battling with poverty,  and how can bitcoin be used when majority don't have access to Internet.  I think people in rural area needs to be financially stable first before knowing bitcoin.
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / 10,000 moves off cryto wallet linked to Mt. Gox hack on: November 27, 2022, 12:35:27 AM
A crypto wallet belonging to the shutdown crypto exchange BTC-e has just moved 10,000 Bitcoin (BTC $16,451), currently worth over $165 million, to various exchanges, personal wallets, and other sources on Nov. 23.

A Nov. 23 Chainalysis report suggested that while this withdrawal is the largest made by BTC-e since April 2018, BTC-e and WEX — an exchange which is thought to be BTC-e’s successor — both sent small amounts of BTC to Russian electronic payments service Webmoney on Oct. 26 before making a test payment on Nov. 11, then transferring out a further 100 BTC on Nov. 21.
Of the total amount sent, 9,950 BTC is thought to still be located in personal wallets, while the rest was moved through intermediaries before ending up at four deposit addresses in two large exchanges.

Blockchain analytics firm Cryptoquant co-founder and CEO Ki Young Ju also verified the findings noting 0.6% of the funds were sent to exchanges and may represent sell-side liquidity.

In a Nov. 24 tweet, Young Ju shared images of the transfer highlighting the BTC had been in the wallet for over seven years.

Mt. Gox was a Tokyo-based cryptocurrency exchange that once accounted for more than 70% of Bitcoin transactions. In 2014, the exchange was hacked with thousands of Bitcoin stolen and the exchange filed for bankruptcy shortly after.

BTC-e, which had its servers located in the United States, had its website shut down and funds seized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 2017 after allegations that it was involved in money laundering, including crypto stolen during the Mt. Gox exchange hack.

According to Chainalysis, at the time of its shutdown BTC-e still held “a substantial amount of Bitcoin,” and in April 2018 moved over 30,000 BTC out of its service wallet.

While the owners of BTC-e attempted to remain anonymous, Alexander Vinnik is thought to be the main operator and has been embroiled in legal battles for the last five years as a result.

A WizSecurity report released in 2017 alleged that BTC-e and Vinnik were directly involved in the theft of Mt. Gox Bitcoin and user funds, with the latter being forced to suspend trading and close its website after the losses.

19  Other / Beginners & Help / Invest without predicting a time of bull on: November 23, 2022, 12:02:54 PM
Invest bitcoin without expecting the bull market at any given time.  Bitcoin is volatile and a decentralized  currency which the bearish and bull market can occur without anyone knowing.  When investing Bitcoin  and expect to gain profits in a given time and what is expected to happen in the market turns to be something else, it can automatically make one to feel emotional.

When Bitcoin is invested with a free mind  without expecting When to make profit in a predicted time, it gives fate to keep hodling till anytime bull market occur.
