Not sure if this has any connection with NEO&BEE

They should translate their website to Chinese - spend 300k euros on property in Cyprus and you can get European permanent residency if you are Chinese.
2  Other / Politics & Society / Why do people believe so firmly in 'the law' on: December 14, 2013, 05:45:08 PM
I've been on the forum for some time, and it never ceases to amaze me how many people quote the law as if it were physics.
'You cannot do this' as if it were an impossibility, rather than a vague piece of legislation that has never been tested legally ,or no precedent set.

It seems half the people on here think of law as a wall made of molten rock that you can never break through, and it would be better to keep your distance for fear of being burnt.
The other half see the law as a vague line in the sand that you cross and then keep going until a friendly policeman asks you how much you've been drinking, at which point you just pay the fine.

5  Other / Politics & Society / The problem with atheism. on: September 08, 2013, 06:32:50 PM
Let me start by making it clear that I am an atheist.

The problem I have with the atheist agenda is that is stops at 'the non existence of God' - the same logic is not applied consistently to the whole of the human condition.

If I examine my life and use this same 'spaghetti monster' logic, I am drawn to the same conclusions about all my actions and activities - they are all as equally pointless and irrational as worshiping God.

If I rationally examine my sense of self I realize that it is just a genetic innovation - it encourages self preservation - genetic selfishness creates a genetically induced illusion of self worth.

My desire to survive is itself as delusional as a belief in God - pain and my fear of pain are a genetically induced survival mechanism I am in thrall to.

If I believe in God and survive then it is no different to not believing in God and surviving - nature will select for survival.

But my actual survival is meaningless whether I believe in God or otherwise.

This is the only conclusion that can be logically formed from a real examination of life.

Atheism is merely another tribal display - a peacock's tail trying to attract a mate through a verbal display of intelligence.

...with open arms.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/05/20/canada_welcomes_bitcoin_traders_fintrac_letter/

"The Register has seen a letter from the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) which was sent to several prominent Bitcoin exchanges in the country, explaining they are exempt from strict money-laundering laws."

An oddly proactive move : looks like 'the government' won't have things so easy after all (thanks to the indefinite article)

Not actually much mention of bitcoin, but Mr Bitcoin seems to becoming a regular character.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / At what point should you consider mining to support your own bitcoin investment? on: March 21, 2013, 05:34:57 PM
Recently I've started to think about buying an ASIC miner, not as an investment, but simply to support the network and help protect the bitcoins I already own.
Is this logical even if I only cover my costs?
11  Economy / Economics / How to determine the price of something in Bitcoin? on: January 31, 2013, 07:42:29 PM
One of the arguments against bitcoin is that it is deflationary (ultimately) so people will spend their fiat before they spend their bitcoins. This argument seems reasonable if the bitcoin price is just directly converted from the current mt.gox $ price.

I've sold a few items on bitmit  - and looking back, I think I could have priced these (very few) items at about 50% of the price I bought them at wholesale and still made a profit (due to the current year long rally).

It seems to me that items priced in Bitcoin are too expensive - the inclination is to simply follow the dollar price and ignore the future potential of bitcoin.
How many merchants are at least passing on the credit card/paypal fee saving and seriously giving the customer the full advantage and potential of using bitcoin?

If bitcoin is to succeed, bitcoin prices have to reflect all the advantages of using bitcoin - there is no reason that bitcoin prices need to be fixed directly to the US dollar.
The bitcoin price needs to be attractive enough for the customer to prefer to use their bitcoins over using their dollars.

I realize that this is just market forces - but there seems to be very little sign of this amongst merchants (perhaps because they are converting their bitcoins to fiat immediately).

A merchant who really wants raw bitcoins has a big advantage over a merchant who wants fiat (directly or via immediate bitcoin $ conversion) and they should reflect that in their prices.

13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Searching for new Bitcoin videos on Youtube on: August 26, 2012, 05:50:57 PM
My current bookmarked search (organized on upload date) looks like this:

bitcoin -russiatoday -dummies -wife -adam -Derrick -ProfitClicking -RidleyReport

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=videos&search_query=bitcoin+-russiatoday+-dummies+-wife+-adam+-Derrick+-ProfitClicking+-RidleyReport&search_sort=video_date_uploaded&uni=3

Is it just me or is it getting harder to extract new relevant information about bitcoin on YouTube?

As more people add bitcoin donation addresses it get's harder to search for Bitcoin generally - is this a good or a bad thing?
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Japanese getting into Bitcoin? on: August 14, 2012, 03:38:23 PM
There seems to have been a radical change in the last few days on mtgox in Japanese yen:

http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxJPY#czsg2012-03-01zeg2012-08-15ztgSzm1g10zm2g25zvzcv

I've always kept my eye on this chart as mtgox is in Japan, but I was always disappointed until the last few days.
Is there any known reason for this?
15  Economy / Speculation / Why do people sell bitcoins and move the money back to their bank? on: June 25, 2012, 06:01:42 PM
It's something I don't understand.
So you buy some bitcoins, you then sell them at a good price (you've made a profit) and then bitcoin goes down inevitably at which point you can buy more and then the price goes up and you sell them again.
At what point do you decide to quit and cash out?
Is it fear of a Bitcoinica type situation?
Surely once you have Bitcoins/$ in the system you can play this game forever.

17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Giving to charity with bitcoin even if they've never heard of bitcoin -coinapult on: April 27, 2012, 04:00:51 PM
Claire Squires was running in the London Marathon to raise money for the Samaritans (a charity to help people who have problems and perhaps feels suicidal and need someone to talk to) - she suffered a heart attack a mile from the finish line and sadly died.
It has become a big news story in the UK, and people responding to her tragedy have raised over £900,000 so far.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-17862293

I've just sent a message to http://www.justgiving.com/Claire-Squires2 (the site Claire set up before the marathon, to raise money) asking them if they would be willing to accept a donation to this cause in bitcoins.

I decided I wanted to contribute (like thousands of other people), but could only see paypal/credit card options and I wanted to do this anonymously.
I sent justgiving.com a message via their support form (they gave out no direct email address ), asking if they would accept bitcoin.

My intention, once I get a reply, is to use http://www.coinapult.com/ to just send them some bitcoins to their reply email address in the hope they will take the opportunity to accept these bitcoins.

Now I'm not sure how I feel morally about this - I want to give something to this charity, but I don't want to give out my details and perhaps I shouldn't force bitcoin on them, but I intend to (if you have an opinion I'd like to hear it - I've not sent anything yet . I've just asked if they would accept Bitcoin)

But giving is giving, and I hope if a few others try this then they may be inclined to accept these bitcoins.

If you are inclined to contact them please emphasize that you would like to specifically contribute to the Claire Squires cause (though feel free to find your own cause).

(I think justgiving.com also appear to be an ideal website for bitcoin100 if anyone more eloquent than me wishes to contact them)

19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Withdrawing via mt.gox's HK bank account - fees, currencies etc on: December 01, 2011, 03:52:22 PM
I read a previous press release from mt.gox (over a month or so ago) indicating that they were waiting for a token to allow them to process withdrawals with zero fees from their Hong Kong bank account.
Has anyone had experience of this - are there really zero fees currently? And which currencies go through their HK bank account for withdrawal?

I live in China and currently I'm mainly transferring btc to btcchina.com and selling them there to get them into RMB in my Chinese bank account. I think my Bank will accept any currency - if I can do US$ to my Bank then that would be good, but I think mt.gox's US$ come from their US bank account with US fees (that's the impression I get from their 'regionalisation' notice).

(I would ask mt.gox directly via their support, but I think the issue may be of interest to people in general)
