1  Economy / Gambling discussion / Gambling for fun, a slippery road to gambling addiction on: October 15, 2025, 07:55:35 AM
The caption of this post may be a little controversial but I have to bring it up because I see that the word gambling for fun seems to be doing more harm to people than Good. Now how do one gamble for fun?

The proponents of gambling for fun claim that it is a way of gambling with small amount of money supposedly for the sole purpose of the joy, happiness, relaxation and any other thing that makes one derive pleasure in gambling. This means if you lose that small deposit, you deposit again and again without stopping until you probably run out of cash since you are catching fun and not doing it for money. The implications of this is as follow:

  • Lack of accountability: since its all for fun, you will rarely care if you win or not, your aim is to continue to gamble irrespective of the outcome because everyone needs to be entertained to body and soul together in our troubled world.
  • Zero regards for rules: When you gamble for fun and not for money, then you gamble with zero regards for the rules for responsible gambling.
  • Bad bankroll management: Since gambling is aim at fun and not money, there will be no need for proper bankroll management because subconsciously,  you are gambling with insignificant amount even though cumulatively you may be spending more due to recklessness
There are many negative things attached to that idea of gambling for fun that end up creating more gambling addicts but for the purpose of this discussion, I want to challenge anyone who disagree with me to come up with counter argument because I still maintain that gambling for fun and not for the money is a pathway to gambling addiction.
2  Economy / Gambling discussion / Geo-restriction in some slot games on: September 24, 2025, 12:23:24 PM
I was trying to play some new slot games yesterday in one of the popular casino, I noticed I was not allowed to play with the noticed that it was not available for people from my region. I was curious because there is hardly any form of gambling restriction in my country, so I trued another casino and the same thing happened. That was what prompted me to create this post.

What could be the reason some slot games are not available for people from certain country or region?
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How will other nations respond to US Bitcoin reserve proposal? on: December 12, 2024, 06:04:45 AM
I have been thinking about some of the things that happened this year as they relate to Bitcoin and what could possibly happen next year. One thing that that filled my imagination is the reaction of other countries should the US start accumulating Bitcoin based on the promises of President Donald Trump. If this happens, chances are high that nations will be dragging who will hold more because no one wants to be left behind. Imagine what this will do to the price of a Bitcoin.

Anyways, this is just my imagination
4  Economy / Gambling discussion / My experience in gambling on: August 14, 2024, 11:35:13 AM
I decided to create this topic to seek the opinion of fellow gamblers. This post is my personal experience that leaves me with certain things I still do not understand till date. When I started gambling, I was doing it casually, not paying attention to how much I win or being desperate to win. Then I had great experience and I was winning and never under pressures. But at a point I realized I could actually make money from gambling and become extremely rich. Consequently, I increased my gambling amount as well as my targets but from this point onward, everything changed for me and it became extremely difficult to win.

What could be the reason for this case whereby I moved from winning easily to finding it difficult to win? Although a lot have changed for good after I did some adjustments to my gambling but I still cannot explain what happened to my gambling in the past.
5  Economy / Gambling discussion / Bookies right to features matches of leagues where gambling is banned on: August 07, 2024, 11:28:59 PM
I was just thinking on how the next European season will look like and how to prepare my gambling activities to be able to make the most of it and a thought ran into my head which is about gambling being banned or illegal in some countries yet matches from the league of such countries are featured by the bookies. Some of such countries, according to Google search, are shown below:

Now my question is if the Bookies have the legal rights to feature matches from these countries where gambling is forbidden? Is there any legal reason the bookies will feature such matches and can those countries take legal actions against the bookies? Let me know what you think.
6  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / SEC changes direction, ask crypto firms to re-register under the new regime on: June 27, 2024, 04:46:22 PM
The Nigerian Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) have taken a new direction in cryptocurrency which is opposite to their outright condemnation and animosity that lead to the crackdown on exchanges and other crypto related businesses. This is as a result of the advice by IMF, which simply shows that our government can benefit more from a regulated cryptocurrency than an outright ban(which might likely not be possible). Consequently,  the SEC have issued a 30-day deadline for all crypto firms to register their businesses in their website1. This might set the stage for full regulation of cryptocurrency.

However, given the peculiarity of our country, there are still many things that should be a concern to many regarding the modus operandi of this new approach and how effective it will be. Some of them include:
  • Taxation: Can Nigeria effectively implement cryptocurrency taxation? Won't there be loopholes that will lead to unprecedented tax evasion?
  • End to conspiracy: will this new approach bring an end to the conspiracy that cryptocurrency and exchanges are the reason our Naira exchange rate is terrible?
  • Crypto adoption: How deep will this new policy push crypto adoption in Nigeria since we know that the potential is there already?
Let me see what other think about this new move.

7  Economy / Gambling discussion / What are the merits and demerits of casinos setting withdrawal limits on: June 26, 2024, 12:23:26 PM
Most casinos set withdrawal limits and this is usually perceived by some gamblers as bad practice. However, after seeing This post by lovesmayfamilis about a gamble winner who died of heart attack when he won jackpot of $4 million, I am having the feeling that setting withdrawal limits and procedures for heavy winnings might have some life saving merits. Assuming the man was subjected to gradual withdrawal process, I believe he would have grown mentally to handle such amount of money because it was stated that the excitement from the winning was the cause of his death. There could also be other benefits such as helping the gambler not to spend the money lavishly if it comes in bulk.

This is the reason I felt we can discuss the merits and demerits of casinos setting withdrawal limits. What is your opinion?
8  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Cryptocurrency have created more jobs for the youths than the goverments on: May 14, 2024, 09:37:44 AM
This topic is not to insult or downplay the efforts of our governments but to state my observation based on the little research I did and also ensure we look at the opportunities presented by cryptocurrency in a broader perspective.

By youths I mean students and fresh graduates. These clarification is necessary so we could streamline the discussion to get a better conclusion.

I have searched through most jobs posting websites and editorials, most of the jobs posted has 5-10 years working experience as requirement. Meaning they were not posted for the youths and fresh graduates. Last year I went to Federal Civil Service Commission headquarters, I was shocked to see that none of their employee fall within my description of youths, their jobs are mainly shared among the high and mighty and never posted for the public and even when they do, it is just for formalities. Same thing was seen at Podium block Rivers State where you will hardly find a fresh graduate or young person working actively unless few of them working as erand boys and girls to the big shots.

Now let's see how cryptocurrency made the difference.
I don't think there is anyone that will argue that majority of people into cryptocurrency in Nigeria are the youths under the category of students, fresh graduates and those who graduated but due to unemployment or being underemployed, they chose cryptocurrency to support the poor pay. Some of the ways youth make a living from cryptocurrency in Nigeria include but not limited to :

  • Merchant in Exchanges: I have many numbers of merchants I trade with on p2p of some exchanges, I saved them and view their WhatsApp status where the also advertise their businesses and I was shocked to realised that majority of them are still in the universities.
  • Crypto Trading: Majority of the crypto traders I know are youths.  This can be easily verified when you join some of the trading groups around both in WhatsApp and Telegram. I'm in many of them and I happen to know a good number of young guys who are actively trading even when they are still in the universities
  • Cryptocurrency Mining: Although Bitcoin mining is not really that big in Nigeria, a lot of Nigerian youths are actively mining in small scale. Not only Bitcoin but other coins. I got to know the huge interest of people in mining through Pi Network that many youths mined in large quantity. For several weeks, Pi Network was a dominant trend in Twitter Nigeria
  • Bitcointalk: I think a good number of Nigerians in this forum are students and young graduates. Many are earning through different means like bounties, airdrops, signature, contests and others.

If you add the various ways cryptocurrency have created jobs for students and the youths, you will agree with me that our goverment are far behind in terms of employment creation for the youths and stduents. As a matter of fact, i do think there is even provision for students job as it is in some parts of the world... here is always graduation before getting a job.

9  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / What opportunities do you see around you? on: December 21, 2023, 08:24:05 PM
Nigeria is a very blessed country with virtually everything you can think of... from Natural resources to human resources. We really do not have a business with being poor.

The major problem with Nigeria is that we have not really had a leader with vision and the political will to pursue the Nigerian dream. All we have so far are people who want to enriched themselves and their cronies with no regards to what happens to the country, her citizens and her future. Now that leadership failed us, should we fold our hands and cry forever?

Look around you, you can practically see opportunities everywhere. I intentionally went for market survey this Christmas season to see the prices of things especially those with high demand. I was shocked to know that 4 months old broiler is sold for as high as N15,000. A rubber of garri goes for N1,700, a bunch of plantain goes for N5,000 while a bag of rice goes for N56,000. I quickly recurred growing up in the family of farmers, these were items we were playing with then that have turned treasures.

It is actually funny that the food production of Nigeria is not enough to feed the citizens.  Why then are people not going into farming? Why do we cry about unemployment when many people have lands they can cultivate in the villages yet lying fallow. I truly see a very big opportunity in farming.

There are many other areas that present huge opportunities that people are not tapping into. My mindset has changed so much lately as I have realised that Nigeria is like an untapped treasure. I'm from South South Nigeria and I can only say about my area. Those from other regions can narrate what they consider as opportunity in their place.
10  Economy / Gambling discussion / Target your wins in a series of bets on: December 13, 2023, 01:15:34 PM
I just felt I should bring this up here maybe it will help someone in managing expectations and the entire gambling process.

From experience, I have realised that many people run into problems when they focused so much on winning a particular bet amd when such bet fails, they easily slide into psychological crisis.  Considering that gambling is a game of probability with the chances of losing higher than that of winning, it is therefore expected we work out ways of approaching it so we can remain profitable.

One way of approach is to focus on winning certain number of bets in a series of bets. For instance, you can target to win at least 4 bets in a series of 10 bets with the odds being at least 5 odds. This way, you can lose 6 times and win 4 times yet you still remain highly profitable.

This is my approach and through it, I don't get depress over few loses. This method works for me and I feel it will also work for others. Your opinion are highly welcomed.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The prospect of mixers in a congested mempool on: November 18, 2023, 09:37:41 AM
There is no doubt that Bitcoin mixer is a great innovation. It is actually what makes Bitcoin retain some of its key attributes like privacy and anonymity. However, the recent congestion of the mempool resulting in high transaction fees and longer waiting time for transactions confirmation might have huge impact in mixing business considering that mixers usually have time range for settlement, this being unique for each mixer and often used as competitive advantage.

Do you think this could be a major challenge to the business of coin mixing?
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / If Satoshi were here, what question would you ask about the future of Bitcoin on: November 15, 2023, 10:12:11 AM
Recent developments have brought some form of uncertainties regarding the future of Bitcoin. Consequently,
several posts have been raised to that effect yet they are left with no clear answers. If we were to go back to the roots, Satoshi himself would have been in the position to answer some of the key questions such as:

1. The fate of Bitcoin as regards to high fees when the block reward gets to zero

2. If He envisaged things like Ordinals being launched on the Bitcoin Network.

3. If he actually projected mainstream adoption of Bitcoin in term of the features of Bitcoin such as speed, security, accessibility as cost effectiveness, base on present realities.

There should be others so I feel we can make this a discussion while I expect answers from those who have.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why Bitcoin is different from other means of investment on: October 15, 2023, 09:48:38 AM
Even though some people will argue that Bitcoin was not created primarily as a means of investment, it has become obvious that Bitcoin presents a good investment opportunity. Many people even use Bitcoin as a hedge against fiat is plagued by inflation. One aspect that have created much argument is real estate with many saying it is more reliable than Bitcoin that they claim is risky.

I know several threads have been made in this regards with most of them moribund. I created this post because I feel so bad regarding what happened in my country. As you can see in this post and the video in it, the state government demolished an entire estate with several buildings and properties inside. This is peoples investment that just got destroyed. This was a property approved by previous administration but demolished by new government...another risk many people do not put into consideration in real estate and some other physical investments.  This is a confirmation that Bitcoin is safer and better than many conventional investment portfolios.

Anyone still doubting the freedom, comfort and peace that Bitcoin offers is probably yet to embrace reality.

14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How do you feel when you look at your first Bitcoin wallet? on: September 19, 2023, 10:07:14 PM
My journey into Bitcoin was entire due to the need to send payment across borders as there was FX and several other restrictions in my country. So, I joined Bitcoin just to use it for cross-border payment without knowing it could actually be a way of creating wealth in the future.

Just recently, I was tempted to check my first ever Bitcoin wallet to see what I have done in the past. I was so depressed seeing the volume of Bitcoin that have passed through my wallet without me saving a reasonable portion of it.

I have the feeling that many forum users too have similar experience; do kindly share just maybe I can feel a little better knowing that I'm not a lone.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / It is only Bitcoin and nothing else on: September 18, 2023, 12:11:08 PM
I was going through coinmarketcap today to see some of the cryptocurrencies I was involved in when I started, I was so surprised to see that a lot of them have even been delisted. I was heartbroken seeing that some tokens who raised millions of dollars, had huge community and were trending even in various platforms just died. I wanted to not mention any particular token but I have to mention PumaPay that raised about $8 million yet could not deliver anything and got investors holding a bag of shit.

If one can turn back the hand of time, and assuming I joined this forum early when I started my crypto journey, maybe the concept of shitcoins would have dawn on me and that would have made me convert those worthless bags to Bitcoin when I could.

I know there are other who would have similar experience too and there are still others caught up in the euphoria of getting rich through one token or the other. Well, if it is not Bitcoin, it is not worth holding.
16  Other / Beginners & Help / What motivated you to join the forum? on: September 15, 2023, 07:24:11 AM
There is a popular saying that "when the purpose of a thing is not known, then abuse is inevitable". This statement is true even in this forum as understanding your purpose and motivation for join this forum will, to a great extent, determine your approach, commitment, contribution and how long you will stay here (a lot of people disappear after few weeks... I don't mean to scare you though  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy).

Different people joined this forum for different reasons: some to learn about Bitcoin, some already know about Bitcoin but felt the need to join a community where Bitcoin is like a home( to see some of them, go to WO thread) and there are those who joined because they heard that people here make money... so their only motivation is to make money even very quickly.  These are the people that spam, lie and do all manner of despicable things because they want to beat the natural process of learning and growing.

I want to announce to you that if you are only here because you want to make quick money, then you may mostly likely not make the money and here will be so boring to you because you will reveal that tendency and the OGs will notice you.
Some of the older people can share their experience as regards to how they started, maybe we all can learn somethings too.
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What is your take on Mt. Gox refund ? on: September 13, 2023, 09:23:13 PM
Just saw an article on Cointelegraph that Mt. GOX will be refunding victims of the hack that happened to them years ago,  next month. While this is good news for the victims and will restore some level of confidence in the entire Bitcoin community,  there are concerns regarding the impact of such move on the price of Bitcoin.

The exchange lost 850,000 BTC to the hack in 2014. The concerns is that this proposed refund might lead to a huge dump in the price of Bitcoin. If Mt. Gox actually refund their victims, how do you think this might impact on the price and future of Bitcoin.
18  Economy / Gambling discussion / Big capital, small risk or small capital big risk - which is best approach? on: September 12, 2023, 07:09:53 PM
Different people with different approach to gambling. Some prefer committing huge capital to high probability small odds while others prefer using small capital to target big wins. There are many reasons for each of these approaches.

While those that put huge capital win more often, their losses are usually painful. On the other hand, those that commit small capital to make huge wins rare win but when they do, they win big; their losses too are less painful. There are other advantages and disadvantages for both approaches but for the sake of this discussion, let's know which approach you think is better and why?
19  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / On security Nigeria died on: September 11, 2023, 04:41:58 PM
The success of every nation is a reflection of their security architecture. When the security apparatus is solid and in tandem with the vision of the founders of the nation, every other segment of the country will align. But when the security system, that is supposed to be an institution, is compromised, every other thing will fall apart; this is the case with Nigeria.

Nigeria's security institution is burdened with corruption; from the army to the police and virtually every arm of it. It is rather unfortunate that the top military hierarchy are just politicians in military uniforms. As it stand today, laws are made only for the poor because the rich are under the protection of the security forces who are ready to kill to protect them

It was so frustrating seeing that Nigerian police, the army and civil defense personnel played key role in rigging the 2023 General elections as they were practically involved in ballot box snatching, and even protected hoodlums that came to disrupt elections in many places. Furthermore, they watch INEC officials collude with thugs to change results of elections in many places. Now how do we make progress as a people when the security that is supposed to enforce laws and orders are the prime breakers of same laws?

We knew how several accusations have been raised by prominent Nigerians like T.Y. Danjuma that the security forces collude with terrorist and bandits to kill Nigerians. These are not just casual statements or speculations... the man is am authority in that area.

Until our security institution is reformed and made to stand for what they are supposed to, I don't see us making much progress as a people.
20  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / The danger of blaming everything on politics on: September 04, 2023, 04:18:55 PM
Hello my country people. I hope say we dey push forward even though our country no too dey give us joy? Well, make we no give up... las las we go dey ok.

I take eye observe say we dey feel too comfortable blaming everything for we country on politicians. Person go thief, them catch am, him go blame politician and government wey no provide job. Fine girl go leave to learn handwork go dey do olosho and at the end, she go blame politicians and government. Even some papa them wey born full house when them no get work still dey blame politicians and government. Before now me self follow for this habit but recently, something just touch my mind say e be like that pattern no make sense at all. E dey make people lazy and irresponsible!

Even though our politicians and government no too try, that one no mean say them go chop blame for every bad thing wey happen and even wrong decision and choices people make. Even inside this our country wey no keep face well, e get people wey still dey meet up for their dreams so make we dey try to adjust and push on.

Some of the way we fit dey push forward for our country now na :
1. Planning well with our resources and time
2. Finding something legit and giving it your very best
3. No shame to hustle even if it means starting small.

This one na my views, my people how una see am?
