181  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / 7970 vs 5970 power consumption on: January 23, 2012, 04:28:40 PM
So now that the 7970's have been mining for a couple weeks, what is the rough consensus on efficiency?

It looks to me that a 7970 gets approximately the same hash rate as a 5970, but with half the GPU's.  Intuitively, this must mean a major increase in efficiency.

Anyone care to put some numbers with the argument?  I have seen many different figures.....just hoping someone who has followed it more closely can lay out the specifics.
182  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / replacing 5970 fan on: January 22, 2012, 05:24:05 AM
I have a defective cooling fan, and would like to try and replace it.

Anyone have some experience with this?  How difficult will it be?

185  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / 7970 mining thread on: January 19, 2012, 03:18:12 PM
Now that several of us have these cards hashing away, I thought it would be nice to start a thread dealing with the how to best mine with it.

I am running 2x 7970's currently, and will have 4 mining by the end of the day.

Tidbits of info:

-Will not work with GUIminer
-Works great with Diablo
-Runs stable even with massive overclock

I am getting just over 600 MH/s per card with core set @ 1050 MHz.  Memory is underclocked to 600.  I had it clocked at 1100 at one point, but the increased hashing rate did not seem to justify the power usage.

I am very ignorant on tweaking settings other than voltage and clocks, so I am hoping people smarter than me can add to this thread.  Lets figure out how to optimize these bad boys!
186  Bitcoin / Mining support / 5 BTC to run Phoenix on Win7 64-bit on: January 19, 2012, 04:07:31 AM
Having serious issues getting Phoenix to run in Windows 7.  The screen pops up, then immediately disappears.

I am sure I could spend hours researching this on the forums, but I would rather just pay someone to give me a quick tutorial.

First person to give me the correct procedure to successfully launch Phoenix on my system gets the bounty.  THANKS!

EDIT:  will also reward the bounty to anyone who can help me get Diablo running instead.  Either or.

Bounty has been awarded!
187  Economy / Trading Discussion / Anyone do a successful wire transfer from Bitcoinica to the USA? on: January 18, 2012, 04:07:30 PM
I am looking at the fields that need to be filled in on Bitcoinica, and they do not seem to match what My bank has given me for inbound wires.

Has anyone mastered this process?  Can you lend some advice on what goes where?

188  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / 7970's in the mail.....anyone used with GUIminer yet? on: January 18, 2012, 01:36:19 AM
I have 5 of the 7970's en route..... they should arrive tomorrow.

Has anyone tried these bad boys with GUIminer yet?  Didn't even think of that before I bought them.....
189  Economy / Services / 30 day, 15.5 GH/s mining contract on: January 15, 2012, 12:22:08 AM
garaunteed 15.5 GH/s contract for 30 days.  As a bonus, the speed will increase during the contract term as I have 2 more 5970's coming to me within 10 days.

Price is 340 BTC.  Expected payout will total 360 BTC, assuming 1,300,000 difficulty.

190  Economy / Lending / I will give you 262 BTC in return for 240 BTC..... on: January 14, 2012, 10:04:48 PM
Here is the catch:  My 262 BTC is currently held at Tradehill, and I am unsure of how long it will take to get the coins out.  You can follow the saga here:

I need to get access to these coins to pay bills and complete several hardware deals I have made.  If someone will pay me 240 BTC now, I will pledge to them the 262 BTC tied up at Tradehill.  The timeline for payment is uncertain....could be tomorrow, could be next week.  Great return on investment for someone with extra coins.

191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Tradehill.....we have a problem. on: January 14, 2012, 05:39:31 PM
It has been 10 days since their blog post about suspending checks and wires, and 5 days since they were to re-commence operations.  I have written multiple e-mails and have recieved no response, and I have not seen any posts by the Tradehill team on the forums for several days.

Since the initial news of no wires or checks, it seems that Paxum withdrawals are also suspended.  This has not been confirmed by Tradehill, but I have had a request "in process" for a week.  Finally, I am now unable to even do a BTC transfer from my account, as this also shows "in process" for days.  This is particularly alarming, as the whole point of BTC is seemless payments with no outside interference.  Banks giving Tradehill problems should have ZERO impact on their ability to continue taking in BTC and transferring out BTC.

I would like to put together a list of other Tradehill customers currently experiencing these issues, and perhaps others (I have only tried Paxum and BTC transfers).  Please post on this thread similar issues or others you are having.  Maybe it is just my account that is on the fritz, but I doubt it.

Message to Tradehill:  I want to believe there is nothing nefarious going on, but the lack of communication and failure to complete BTC transfers is making it very hard to maintain trust.  Please come out and at least update everyone on the situation, and address why BTC transfers are now informally suspended.

Thank you.

193  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / 5970 usage % issues on: January 10, 2012, 06:00:09 PM
I have some 5970's that I cannot seem to get to 99% usage on both cores.  One will be pegged at 99%, the other at around 60%.

I have tried overvolting, changing clock speed, clocking down the memory, but nothing seems to work.

I know someone has had to have run into this before.....any quick tips on how to get both cores into the high 90's and really unleash these bad boys?

PS- I am using a 750 Watt PSU, so I don't think power is the issue.
194  Economy / Goods / WTS 6950(sold), 5830(sold), 5770(sold) on: January 08, 2012, 09:31:20 PM
I have three GPU's for sale.

Here are the details:

Sapphire Radeon HD 5830:  This card was used flawlessly for about a month, and now it has been sitting in a corner for a few months.  In that time, the fan went bad (anyone have a clue how this happens?!)  Now the fan barely spins.  Anyway, the GPU is still fine, but it will need a fan repair before using it for anything more than running windows.  I will sell it for 10 BTC including shipping, OBO.

Sapphire Radeon HD 6950:  This card hashes like a maniac, but unfortunately one of the two fans only runs about 15%.  Since it has 2 fans, it still stays relatively cool, but I am not comfortable leaving it running.  I imagine someone with more knowhow than me can fix this issue.  This card was bought new in August.  I will sell it for 30 BTC including shipping, OBO.

MSI Radeon 5770:  This card is in flawless condition, works perfectly with no issues.  Dual fans is nice.  Used for 4 months at factory speeds to hash.  I will sell it for 10 BTC including shipping.

Ask any questions you want!

198  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / 5970 problems - seeking suggestions on: December 29, 2011, 03:40:39 PM
I have a couple 5970's that keep crashing my systems.  I am able to get one core rocking at 350 MH/s....but as soon as I start up the second core, everything freezes, the driver crashes, and sometimes there is a BSOD.

Anyone have a potential solution?
