1  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / 5 NIGERIANS WEY DIE BECAUSE OF THE PRESSURE FOR D NAIIJA AND SOUTH AFRICA MATCH on: February 10, 2024, 04:30:03 PM
During the Semi-Final between our own Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, while I was at a viewing center where the game was aired, in the last part of the game, someone made a comment saying. "If you know say you get High BP, better dey go your house now ooo" and we all laughed about it as the statement was quite hilarious. I been no really reason the talk until today wey I just dey surf through the net come see news say that very day, over 5 persons die as a result of the tension wey the match carry come

I no really believe my eyes cos I been think say na just all these fake news wey people go just post to catch cruise because we too catch cruise for this our country, but as I come read through, I come still see other sources wey confirm the news to be true. I come dey ask myself, why e be say, some people know say them get medical issues wey fit result to them dying if their mind fly and them go still go expose themselves to danger by going to go watch that kind of match when them know already say  the match go carry plenty tension, now them don go die for nothing, because las las Super Eagles come still go win the game. Waste of death.

First person wey die na NYSC member for Adamawa wey them identify as Samuel, wey get heart attack as them award South Africans penalty wey make them equalize.
Another person na one Dr Cairo Ojougboh former member of House of Representatives, wey dey represent Ika federal constituency for Delta State.
Another person na one Alhaji Ayuba Abdullahi wey be deputy bursar for Kwara State University (KWASU).
Another person again na person wey them call Mikail Osundiji, him na sales representative for Ogun State.
Report also talk say one Chief Osondu Nwoye wey from Anambra State but him dey live for Ivory Coast also die but them never really confirm the report sha.

In as much as we wan come out tomorrow come show support abeg, I use God name beg everybody, anybody wey know say e no fit withstand pressure or your body no fit carry too much shock or you get High BP, make you sidan for house, after the match finish you go still hear the scores, so make una pity una health, we no wan record more death because of cup wey we go still win. Abeg make everybody take note and also tell your friends and family.

How una see this talk.
2  Economy / Economics / 4 COMMON MISTAKES PEOPLE MADE WITH THEIR FINANCES IN THE PAST YEARS on: January 05, 2024, 07:54:36 AM
Hello everyone
Wishing everyone a wonderful new year, I've taken time to draft and explain just a few mistakes a lot of people has been making when it comes to their finances over the years and do not even realize it.
Here are 4 common mistakes people made with their finances last year that should really be looked into and avoided this year in order to achieve your financial goals.

1. NOT HAVING AN EMERGENCY FUND

2. NOT INVESTING

3. OVERSPENDING

4. NOT TRACKING EXPENSES

1. NOT HAVING AN EMERGENCY FUND

Not having an emergency fund was one of the greatest financial mistakes people made last year.
Money put aside for unanticipated expenses, such as a job loss or medical emergency, is known as an emergency fund. It can be quite challenging to cough up for these unforeseen expenses without an emergency fund. Furthermore, it could be even harder to get your finances back on track if you have to take out a loan to pay for them. Having an emergency fund is crucial, and while many people made this error last year, they should not repeat it this year.

People may ask, What is the appropriate amount to save?

Having three to six months' worth of expenses saved is a good rule of thumb. However, each person's circumstance is different.

2. NOT INVESTING

One of the largest and most common mistakes people made in the previous year was not investing. This is something that should be avoided this year and this could be considered for two reasons.

Firstly, the power of compound interest is something you lose out on when you don't invest. When the profits from your investments are reinvested and yield even higher profits, this is known as compound interest. This might really build up over time and expedite the achievement of your financial objectives.

Secondly, failing to invest equates to not diversifying your financial holdings. Inflation puts your purchasing power at risk if all of your savings are in cash. However, you can diversify your investments and possibly shield your money from inflation by making investments in securities like stocks and bonds.

Investing is a critical component of long-term financial growth and protection. Thus, if you haven't invested, it's critical to do so right away and create a strategy for the future. It's never too late to begin investing, and over time, even little sums can have a significant impact.

3. OVERSPENDING

Overspending is a prevalent issue that many people experienced in the previous year and ought to be avoided in order to take charge of your finances this year. Reaching your financial objectives may be challenging and financially stressful if you overspend.

Impulsive purchases, trying to keep up with the Joneses, and not keeping track of one's expenditures are a few of the reasons why people overspend.
It's extremely important to establish a budget and fully understand your spending habits in order to prevent overspending. With the use of a budget, You can track your income and expenses, spot areas where you're overspending, and create financial objectives.

4. NOT TRACKING EXPENSES

Failing to keep track of one's spending was another common error made by individuals last year and should be avoided this year. This is a serious issue since it makes it difficult to manage your finances, accomplish your financial objectives, and it may even result in debt and overspending.

It can be very difficult for many people to keep their spending under control because they are unaware of their exact monthly expenses.
It's important to keep track on your spending so you can figure out where your money is going and adjust as needed. There are numerous ways to address this issue and keep track of your spending; you can do this by utilizing a spreadsheet, a notebook, or even a budgeting app or software.

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / PROS AND CONS OF DIFFERENT CONSENSUS MECHANISM on: December 05, 2023, 01:38:29 PM

In every organization or association the importance of unity and oneness can never be overemphasized. If there's no unity in a successful organization or group of persons, then it's certain there'll certainly be a division amongst them thereby causing the organization to collapse, that's exactly how it is in the Blockchain network.

The Blockchain network is a system in which a record of transactions, especially those made in a cryptocurrency, is maintained across computers that are linked in a peer-to-peer network, and it might also interest us to know that these computers are scattered across the globe, so that tells us that the Blockchain network isn't centralized in any particular geographical location. the Blockchain network is best known for its cryptocurrency capabilities such as the popular Bitcoin and other related currencies (Altcoin) But that's not all, The Blockchain is more than just that, it's also know for its efficiency  in the process of verifying, recording, managing and monitoring information. It is also important to note that the Blockchain network is can classified into two major categories which are the private Blockchain network and public Blockchain network, But I believe we probably know this so I won't go further as I'll just go straight to the point.

In order to ensure the smooth running of the Blockchain Network, there need to be some sort of agreement between those several computers scattered among different geographical locations, Hence the introduction of the CONSENSUS MECHANISM.

You may also want to look at https://builtin.com/blockchain/consensus-mechanism

The Consensus Mechanism is a process employed by the Blockchain Network to reach some sort of agreement on the validity of transactions on the network as well as the order in which they are added on the Blockchain. With the help of the consensus mechanism, new blocks can be verified and validated and it also ensures everyone on the network is using the same version of the Blockchain.

To ensure the smooth running of the Blockchain then everyone in the network must be in complete agreement on which transactions are valid and invalid. They act as a verification standard through which each Blockchain transactions gets approved.

Although, While designing a network's verification standard, there are many consensus mechanism to take into account, but all of them are designed to undermine the credibility of those who try to falsify the record.

HOW THE CONSENSUS MECHANISM WORKS.

Generally, the Job and purpose of a consensus mechanism is to maintain the security and stability of the Blockchain. Ensures that the entire network runs smoothly in a unified and cooperative way within the network. It's also a way of ensuring that every user in the network follows the same rules and makes the same decisions without being controlled by a central authority.

When a request is sent by a user to the Blockchain, Nodes receive data from that request, processes the data and then decides whether the request is valid or invalid. Let's say for example, a user requests to withdraw a token that has already been accounted for, with the help of the consensus mechanism, the request will be processed and evaluated and then takes the decision that the request is invalid and not worthy to be honored.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF CONSENSUS MECHANISM

We have different types of Consensus Mechanism, but I'll be talking about the two major types which are the
1. PROOF-OF-WORK and
2. PROOF-OF-STAKE

PROOF-OF-WORK

Proof-of-work (PoW) is the Blockchain network's most widely utilized consensus mechanism. In this procedure, miners compete with use of computer power to solve challenging mathematical puzzles. The first miner to solve the puzzle adds the next block of transactions to the Blockchain and is rewarded with cryptocurrency. While this technique was primarily created for the Bitcoin network, other cryptocurrencies have since embraced it.
The reason this approach is the most often used is that it contributes to network security and virtually eliminates the possibility of transaction manipulation on the Blockchain.

PROOF-OF-STAKE

Another popular consensus method that was developed as a substitute for Proof-of-Work is Proof-of-stake (PoS). This one chooses validators based on how many coins or tokens they Stake, in contrast to the PoW. Therefore, in this instance, your mathematical expertise are not required because it doesn't qualifies you to be a validator; instead, the quantity of tokens you have staked is what counts. In other words, the more token a validator stakes, the more his chances he has to be a validator and to create the next block of transactions on the network, and then rewarded with more tokens.

PROS AND CONS OF DIFFERENT CONSENSUS MECHANISM

In as much as the PoW is the most popular and the most secured Consensus Mechanism, some people still believe that the PoS is more preferable and more convenient because

1. The PoW, unlike the PoS is energy intensive. You need work your ass and brain out on the computer before you can be able to add another block of transaction.

2. Requires lots of computational power. Unlike the PoS you really don't need all that computational power.

3. Most significantly, because only big mining pools with powerful computers can afford to join, the high operational costs of the PoW network may cause centralization.

But in my opinion I still think that the PoW is way better and more effective. What do you think?
4  Economy / Gambling discussion / CASHOUT OR NOT???? on: December 01, 2023, 02:37:36 PM
Good day everyone.

I'd really need your advice on something I'm debating within myself. Okay the screenshots below is a running ticket that's been on since Sunday, I carefully selected 2 games for each day using the same market options for all the games( Home or Away to win).  I've been carefully watching the game every single day as everything has been going as planned, although there were times I panicked as some matches almost went bazaar. But thankfully everything went well. So today's the final day and I've been given an incredible amount as my available Cashout, so I've been waring against myself since morning if I should take the cash out or if I should just allow the game to finish playing. Honestly I want to leave the game, besides it's just 2 games left and the games are likely to play in my favor, but who knows, these things can be so unpredictable. What if I take the cashout and then the game plays ( which I believe will happen) then I'd be loosing over half of my winning, and then what if I leave the game to finish playing with intentions of taking everything and it goes otherwise. Please guys I need your advice, the first game starts in a couple of hours and I still can't decide on what to do right now.

                                                                                                 BET'S OUTCOME/RESULT

HELLO EVERYONE

I PROMISED I'D COME BACK WITH UPDATES ON THE OUTCOME AND RESULT OF THE GAME. I SHOULD HAVE UPDATED Y'ALL EARLIER THAN THIS BUT I'VE BEEN PRETTY BUSY WITH STUFFS. AND SO I DECIDED NOT TO CASH OUT AND LET THE GAME PLAY THROUGH AND I DID. BUT UNFORTUNATELY ONE OF THE GAMES TOOK A NEGATIVE TURN AND RUINED EVERYTHING. I'M A BIT DISAPPOINTED BUT I'M STILL NOT REGRETTING MY DECISION BECAUSE THAT'S GAMBLE FOR YOU, SOMETIMES YOU WIN, SOMETIMES YOU LOOSE, SOMETIMES YOU'RE KEPT IN A TIGHT CORNER TO MAKE CERTAIN DECISIONS, SOMETIMES YOU MAKE THE RIGHT ONE, AND SOMETIMES THR WRONG ONES BUT THAT'S THE WORLD OF GAMBLE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT Y'ALL WOULD GONNA LEARN FROM MY EXPERIENCE BUT I DON'T REGRET MY ACTIONS AND IF I'M TO BE FACED WITH THE SAME SITUATION AGAIN, I'D STILL CHOOSE TO LET IT PLAY THROUGH.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / EVER WONDERED ABOUT WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO BACK UP YOUR BITCOIN WALLET PHRASES? on: November 30, 2023, 02:25:09 PM
Hello everyone

Hope y'all having a wonderful day. And so I was doing some research about the best way to store your Bitcoin Pass phrases. I know a lot of people do not really think this is that important because you can simply just copy out the phrases and just dump it in your diary or on your notepad, or maybe on a piece of paper and hide it somewhere in your room and then just assume it's safe there. Well I used to think so too, not until I come to realize that storing up and securing your phrases is actually the primary thing in the Bitcoin journey and a lot of Bitcoiner are quite ignorant of this fact.

I began my search as I surfed the web and also checked forum too. Then I bumped into a thread by @fillippone which literally contained the answer to my questions. He spoke about storing and securing your phrases through what's called a WASHER. didn't have a clue what that meant so I had to dive in to take a look. Honestly I was quite fascinated and think everyone should take a look at his theory because it's important everyone know about the safest way to store up your phrases and keep them away from intruders.

According to Jameson Lopps, he said in a tweet "Most folks figure an Evil Maid attack will never happen to them because they don't have a maid. Yet nobody ever expects the Naive Child attack..." You never can predict where the attack might come from so it's important protect yourself and avoid it.

I also followed a link on the thread that led me to an article by Jameson on how to also choose the way to back up my phrases. On the article I bumped into something that kinda cracked me up. I couldn't stop laughing for a while after reading this because I found it really hilarious. Image below.

Well, the reason for this thread is to offer some sort of guide to anyone who's also asking questions about the best way to back up your phrases.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / someone pays 83.65 $BTC ($3,136,058) in transaction fees, overpaying by 120,258 on: November 24, 2023, 06:34:24 AM
I was on my phone today reading some article when I got a pop up notification from the X app ( Then known as Twitter) and the content of the notification made me pause to look at the notification and check if this was real or maybe it's  someone just tryna messing with people online. I further looked up the information and found out it was real. I mean why on earth would someone pay 83.65 BTC ($3,136,058) in transaction fees on the Bitcoin network? Which is typically 120,258 times more than the actual fee of 0.0007 Bitcoin ($26.66) for a transaction. I keep asking myself why in earth would someone do that because it doesn't make sense why a user would pay such an enormous amount for transaction fees. Could it have been an error when setting the transaction fee or maybe it was a deliberate attempt to manipulate the Bitcoin Market because this Scenario has currently sparked lots of discussion in the Bitcoin community if it was indeed an error or a deliberate attempt to manipulate the market.

Well I wouldn't know the reason for the action and that's why I brought it here if anyone would provide a more logical reason that led to this action.
7  Economy / Exchanges / CZ officially bids goodbye to Binance. Will Binance Crash or still stand Strong? on: November 22, 2023, 05:53:12 AM
Binance has really made a reputable name and laid an outstanding legacy through the years as the best exchange that has earned global trust. Everyone feels safe with Binance. Just yesterday,  CZ the CEO and Binance Founder Pleads Guilty to Violating Money Laundering Rules and agrees to pay a $50 Miliion Fine and to also step down as the CEO  as part of his guilty plea. And that same yesterday cZ officially resigned and bid goodbye to his office as the CEO of Binance, Although still making himself accessible to the company. It might also interest us to know that Binance itself was also found guilty and charged as well, and also agreed to pay a $4.3 Billion fine and restitution to the government. So my Question is, with all the tension on ground, is Binance going to survive this or would this be the end of Binance even after naming a new CEO, since the news surfaced online, people has been repeatedly taking out their funds from the exchange with the fear of the exchange crashing. So what's going to be the impact of this tragedy on Binance??

Binance don make correct name and don lay down correct legacy as di best exchange wey don gain worldwide trust. Everybody dey feel secure with Binance. Just yesterday,  CZ wey be CEO and Founder of Binance, don talk say e guilty to violate money laundering rules. E don agree say e go pay one fine of $50 million. and also agree say e go step down as the CEO as part of the guilty plea. And that same yesterday CZ don officially resign and e don bid bye bye to en office as the CEO of Binance, although e still make himself accessible to the company say them fit still consult am anytime at all. You go also like to know say Binance sef don Plead guilty and dem charge dem. Dem don also gree say dem go pay fine of $4.3 billion and dem go do restitution to the government join. E be like say the matter don serious well well.. Now my concern be say, e be like say the future of Binance dey uncertain. With all the tension and negative news wey surround the company, e possible say e go hard for dem to survive. Even if dem don name new CEO, people still dey withdraw their money from the exchange because of fear say the exchange fit crash, e fit affect Binance seriously. The tragedy and the bad publicity fit make people lose trust for the company, and this go affect how people take see and trust the exchange. We no fit talk for sure wetin go happen, but Binance go need find way take handle this matter and try regain the trust of their users. Wetin you think for this matter?

10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Chances of Bitcoin ETF approval gone up on: November 17, 2023, 11:18:22 AM
Quote
NEW: Cathie Wood says “something has changed” in SEC’s attitude to a spot #Bitcoin ETF.

The chances of approval have “gone up”!

https://twitter.com/BTC_Archive/status/1724753354872525077?t=8RLs8J7kvAeXaJ2x88lD1w&s=19

Currently, 12 applications for a spot bitcoin ETF are pending before the SEC, and the markets regulator is expected to issue a ruling as soon as November 17.
And according to Seyffart if the agency wants to allow all 12 filers to launch, this would literally be the first available window since Grayscale's court victory was affirmed.
While the window for accepting all 12 filings ends on Nov. 17, Seyffart also added that the chances of SEC making a decision on nine of the twelve applications would be anytime before Jan. 10.

11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Could the scalability of the Bitcoin Blockchain be enhanced without sacrificing on: November 11, 2023, 11:34:41 AM
They claim that because the Bitcoin blockchain can only handle a specific amount of transactions and data within a predetermined amount of time, transferring bitcoin on-chain has proven to be a very costly, inefficient, and lengthy operation. I firmly believe that developments that make the network more useful and efficient are necessary if Bitcoin is to stay competitive and ahead of other blockchains.

I've come to understand that the Bitcoin Blockchain's scalability issues are the reason for this. There are now limits on how many transactions the Blockchain can process in a second. Furthermore, there are also continuing discussions about how to increase the blockchain's scalability without compromising its decentralization and security. which brings me to my query. Is it possible to enhance the Blockchain such that it can handle an infinite number of transactions every second without jeopardizing its decentralization and security?
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What lies ahead for Bitcoin in the coming days? on: November 09, 2023, 10:41:39 AM
Hi everyone.
We can all agree that the starting of this year 2023 has been extremely good for Bitcoin and a few other Cryptocurrencies unlike last year 2022 that Bitcoin had an epileptic run and was literally struggling, making lots of people think twice about still choosing Bitcoin as their choice of investment.

I remember being in a Facebook group where people were debating if Bitcoin would ever recover or if that was in fact the end of the world biggest Cryptocurrency Bitcoin. Inasmuch as I've witnessed similar events in the past years where Bitcoin walked down this same path I still couldn't help but have the thought "WHAT IF"
What if this is actually the end of Bitcoin?
What if I'm making the wrong choice still investing in Bitcoin?
What if this, what if that...
And honestly the Negative Vibes and tension in the air weren't really helping at all, but it appears as we all see now that Bitcoin has indeed recovered and taking a good turn now.

So that brings me to the big question considering the current acceleration at which Bitcoin has attained.
What will happen by the end of the Year? of course it's just a few weeks before the year runs out. Will Bitcoin ever rise again in the bottom weeks of the year? Or, will it crash just like in 2022?
These are the big questions. I believe there's no way I'm the only one having these questions in my mind.

Despite the acceleration Bitcoin has taken, we cannot elude the fact that Bitcoin in the past few months has been under pressure due to the high level of inflation that's hit emerging economies such as the US and other countries.
And from what I learned the U.S. Federal Reserve has hiked the interest rates with a 25-basis point to tackle inflation issues.

Although this isn't the first time Bitcoin is experiencing this kind of pressure, it happens almost all the time.
So please I'd really need your contributions and ideas on what you feel or think would be the outcome of Bitcoin the remaining weeks of this year and most importantly, what would the new year have installed for Bitcoin?
