1  Economy / Currency exchange / Anybody selling ~40 BTC? on: July 22, 2015, 06:20:46 PM
Got a local buyer who is looking for around 40-42 BTC for cash-in-mail or in person. Since I'll be serving as escrow for this one, it'd be nice to just do it in one deal instead of a bunch of small batches. Anybody selling?
2  Other / Meta / Trust list reorganizing on: May 31, 2015, 06:16:10 PM
Hey guys, I wasn't sure if this really merits it's own thread, but since this might affect a few people I guess I'll just put it here. After further consideration over the past few days, including laying in bed at 4am thinking about this shit, I've decided to leverage my Tomatocage1 account as Trust system platform for members who might not quite be an ideal fit for Tier 1. As a result, some people who were in Tier 1 have been deprecated to Tier 2. Some people from Tier 1 have been trimmed all together, though this is simply because they're already in the DefaultTrust group already, so it's not really necessary to list them twice. Gotta keep my garden minty, so to speak. Anyway, here's a breakdown of the reshuffle:

Code:
==== Tier 1 ====
BCB
Blazedout419
Blazr
DefaultTrust
EPiSKiNG (re-added, must have accidentally removed him previously)
Gleb Gamow
Graet
grue
jwzguy
Kluge
KWH
LoweryCBS
Michail1
Mousepotato
piotr_n
Powell
smoothie
Stunna
theymos
tysat
wallet.dat
Tomatocage1 (only here for cascading to Tier 2)

==== Tier 2 ====
Vod (deprecated, probationary)
Quickseller (deprecated, probationary)
dogie (deprecated, probationary)
DiamondCardz (new add, probationary)
haploid23 (inactive)
John (John K.) (inactive)
the joint (deprecated, lacks sufficient Trust system history)
Gavin Andresen (deprecated, lacks sufficient Trust system history)

==== Trimmed ====
BadBear (already in DefaultTrust)
Maged (already in DefaultTrust)
OgNasty (already in DefaultTrust)

==== Explicitly Excluded ====
~gate11
~El Cabron
~shdvb

I really hope that I'm understanding how the Trust system currently works and this isn't going to end up making me look dumb (well, at least not any more so than usual).
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Is there an actual Bitcoin bank yet? on: May 18, 2015, 11:11:14 PM
I haven't really kept up with what's going on in the banking side of the Bitcoin ecosystem, but I was talking with an acquaintance about Bitcoin and he mentioned something about an actual Bitcoin bank. A quick search yields results that are all over the place, so I'm turning to the members of this forum to see if anybody has any info. Does anybody offer an insured solution for storing coins that pays interest? The closest thing I can think of is Circle, but I don't think they pay interest. Any insight would be much appreciated.
4  Other / Meta / Stake your Bitcoin address here on: March 19, 2015, 09:32:41 AM
I'm not sure if there's another thread for this already, or if this belongs in a different section. So basically I thought it would be helpful to post up your Bitcoin address in this thread in the event that your account gets compromised later on down the road. You can simply make a new alt account, sign the address that your original account posted here, and have irrefutable proof that you're the actual owner. It's not 100% guaranteed that you'll get your account back, but it's a pretty good start. Of course, if your account is compromised, the hacker could just come back to this thread and edit/delete whatever address you post here, so that's why I'm asking people to quote the address posted by the preceding user in this thread. Here's mine:

5  Other / Meta / PM restriction for new accounts is needed on: January 27, 2015, 08:06:34 PM
Seems like every day I'm hearing about brand new accounts with names very similar to long-standing trusted accounts who are PM'ing people about offers to buy/sell coins. Examples:

1. sndvb impersonating shdvb
2. Blaizedout419 impersonating Blazedout419
3. deuthedev impersonating devthedev
4. dooqlas impersonating dooglas
5. 0gNazty impersonating OgNasty

The list goes on ad nauseum. They'll PM a new user with an offer that's too good to pass up, dropping a link to the real user's trusted profile. I can't help but think that there are actually people who fall for this.

So can we revisit the idea of putting some sort of time/Activity-based restriction on new users with regard to sending PMs at least?

7  Other / Meta / I might be nitpicking here, but... on: November 22, 2014, 05:55:03 PM
...shouldn't the "Show most recent personal messages at top" checkbox option be in Profile\Personal Message Options section? Right now it's kind of hidden (albeit in plain sight) in the Profile\Look and Layout Preferences section.
8  Bitcoin / Armory / Option for building the db files in a different directory? on: November 20, 2014, 10:45:38 PM
Ok, I vaguely remember seeing some params you could throw at the ArmoryQT to make it build the db files in a specific drive/directory, but for the life of me I can't find it with the Search feature on this forum. Anybody know what switch I'm talking about?

Edit: woops I meant to post this in the Armory section.
9  Other / Meta / Normalize Trust display across subforums on: September 08, 2014, 04:52:15 AM
Display of Trust scores vary from subforum to subforum (ie. it's displayed for China, but not for Indonesia). IMHO it's sorely missing from the Newbies/Beginners section where the most susceptible members are likely to be taken advantage of. Can we just display Trust scores across the board?
10  Economy / Scam Accusations / Negative trust revisiting time! on: August 06, 2014, 03:54:39 PM
If I have left you any negative trust that you feel is unwarranted, please reply back to this thread and I'll gladly review your case. I periodically go back through and audit my ratings and remove the ones that no longer apply, but the list has grown so large that .. well, ok I'm just too lazy to sit here and go through the entire thing user by user. So if you have something that you think might need a second look, please post here and I'll check it out ASAP.

Ex: Yours was a borderline case where I should have given you the benefit of the doubt, but didn't. Or you were initially flagged with negative trust but have since been an active contributing member of the forum. Things like that.
11  Economy / Long-term offers / Pro Tip: Requesting loans for mining equipment is absurd. on: July 31, 2014, 05:24:27 PM
Requesting a loan for mining equipment is absurd, and here's why: If you manage to secure a loan to purchase mining equipment, there's no guarantee that you'll pay it back. In fact, lenders stand an exceedingly high chance of getting ripped off when the borrower decides to skip town and stop communication. The solution to this is simply for the lender to buy the mining equipment himself and mine out the initial cost of the hardware plus whatever interest the borrower promised. That way there's no risk involved for the lender (we'll factor out the "no duh" risks such as market crashing, FedEx losing an uninsured package, etc.) and he gets the entire amount promised to him by the borrower. At that point the lender has the hardware paid off and now must send it to the borrower for FREE. WTF kind of sense does this make? None, that's what. But that's tantamount to what a loan request for mining hardware is.

So please, just stop.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / [ATTN] New accounts + IPO on: May 04, 2014, 12:06:14 AM
If anybody runs across any new accounts with a new alt-coin that has an IPO, please PM me so I can mark them with negative trust. Whenever these come up, there's an exceedingly high chance that it's going to end up in disaster for everybody but the IPO issuer.
13  Economy / Lending / [ACTIVE] Tomatocage's 2%-10% interest loans, up to 5 BTC (collateral required) on: April 23, 2014, 05:38:13 PM
I decided to create a new thread instead of having to go through and edit the old topic. Lending has been switched back ON, but things are a bit different this time. The point where your BTC needs meet my lending goals meet is going to be a little fatter, to the tune of 10% (up from 1% previously). However, collateral requirements have been reduced to 100% (down from 115%) for the loan. Here's the breakdown.

I have up to 5 BTC to loan at 10% or less*!!!

No questions asked, and brand new users welcomed, even if you just registered today.

Terms
  • You must supply collateral before receiving a loan
  • Collateral must be in the form of LTC, XPM, PPC, NMC
  • The amount of collateral will be the same (converted to BTC at that time) as you're borrowing
  • All loans are for a period of one week, unless agreed upon otherwise
  • All collateral transfers must be from an address that YOU control

*Interest scales with amount of loan:
5 BTC 2%
4 BTC 4%
3 BTC 6%
2 BTC 8%
1 BTC 10%

Example Request
Amount requested: 1.5 BTC
Purpose: I don't care (No questions asked, etc)
Term: 1 week (negotiable)
Interest: 8%
Trusted?: I don't care. You're supplying collateral.

FAQ:
Q: Why would I give 100% collateral when I can just sell my coins and get the same BTC?
A: Well, for one thing there's the exchange fees you'd have to swallow, which can be pretty sizable at the loan limit of 5 BTC. And keep in mind that you'd have to pay these exchange fees twice -- once to sell your coins, and yet again to reacquire them, and don't forget to factor in the withdrawal fees as well. Second, you're protected against price surges. For example, if LTC (or whatever you use as collateral) suddenly doubles or triples in value while your loan is active, and then you need to buy them back (remember, you sold your LTC for BTC right?), you're going to end up with significantly less LTC than you had before. This way you're completely protected against price surges since you'll get back ALL of your LTC after you pay your loan off Smiley

14  Economy / Services / [ANN] Tomatocage's Escrow Service on: April 23, 2014, 05:10:24 PM
I've been doing private party escrow as well as new altcoin IPO escrow for a while now, but it's all been through word-of-mouth up until now. I guess it's time to make it official, so here it is.

Private party escrow
  • 1% escrow fee (includes Tx fee upon release)
  • I am set up to hold BTC or LTC (other altcoins in the future)
  • For jobs under or near typical Tx fee, I'll simply do it for free minus the Tx fee

Altcoin IPO escrow
  • 3-5% depending upon complexity of the launch (includes Tx fee upon release)
  • Tracking of individual deposits
  • Verification of incoming deposits
  • Handling of refunds within the specified refund period
  • Storage in a separate coin control wallet

How to request escrow
  • Send me a PM and see if I'm available to escrow (I usually am, unless I'm out doing IRL stuff)
  • Be sure to include details such as who the buyer is, who the seller is, who will bear the 1% escrow fee, what is being traded, BTC exchange rate, etc.
  • If I'm available, I'll usually get back to you within a few minutes

15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / WTF happened to Cryptovalley? on: April 07, 2014, 06:46:59 AM

17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / New R9 280 GPUs (not 280X) on: March 18, 2014, 08:20:10 PM
Anybody try out the R9 280s that just hit the shelves? They have about a couple hundred less stream processors than the 280X's, but I'm not sure how relevant this is for Scrypt. But they're about $60-100 bucks cheaper than the 280Xs too.
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Escrow address question on: March 11, 2014, 06:16:43 PM
Alright, so I'm escrowing the IPO for Pawncoin (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=508824.0) and I noticed something about the escrow address I'm using: 1P8hf47T1tDqVS8dx8y4G3nV7XLNHz6t1z

The problem is that the Total Received differs from the Final Balance. The reason for this is because I had released escrow in an unrelated escrow job and the release apparently pulled some coins from the Pawncoin escrow address. This doesn't affect the actual total coins that people have submitted for the Pawncoin IPO since I still have all of them, but it may be disconcerting to anybody monitoring the IPO address.

Is there any way to lock an address down so that sending coins from my wallet does not affect the balance of a single address?
