6  Local / India / Does anyone honestly think Bitcoin has a future in India? on: October 29, 2014, 11:10:14 AM
I've been using Bitcoin since I first heard about it few years ago. I run a miner that doesn't generate a profit but I keep it running at home just so I can contribute towards keeping the network healthier and so I can tell people about Bitcoin when they ask me "What is that thing?" but everytime I tried explaining it to people, it has been met with skepticism and stupid arguments to which I try explaining to them as clearly as possible but the most common and valid question I get is "What can I do with it?", which is what I have trouble with. How do I answer that? I would love to take all my friends out to a grand dinner and pay the whole bill with Bitcoin so they can see it for themselves how easy it really is to make an electronic payment right from your smartphone without using a credit card and the numerous advantages that this technology offers but there doesn't seem to be a single physical establishment anywhere that accepts Bitcoin.

Businesses will be reluctant to accept it because there doesn't seem to be many people using it. People are reluctant because there are no businesses that accept it. What can we do about this? How can we as normal users start talking to business owners about accepting Bitcoins and open themselves up to a new stream of revenue from potential customers? Are there even merchant services for Indian businesses where they can accept Bitcoins at cheaper rates than credit cards?

I have never been to a Bitcoin meetup and I have no idea what goes on there but the fact that there isn't even one physical store that accepts it really makes me question if Bitcoin has a future here or if I should pack my bags and go to some country where my Bitcoins actually have some value. I have no interest in selling it back to worthless fiat currency.
