1  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Segwit + increased max_block_size HF on: January 14, 2017, 01:57:40 PM

As I see miner adoption of segwit has stalled way below the threshold I wonder what mix of segwit + max_block_size increase would be safe and desirable.

Try to stay away from name calling.

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / So Craig Wright is Satoshi Nakamoto, now what? on: May 04, 2016, 03:02:29 PM

As the vitriol and incriminations flow through the Bitcoin community, filling every empty heart corrupted by the fabulous Block Size Debate, what will the Bitcoin community do if it turns out Craig Wright is "The Real Slim Shady"? Will we listen to him? Will any of the main protagonists step back and reevaluate their positions? How will the dynamics change? Will anything change?

Any thoughts/rants are welcome. However, this thread works under the aforementioned presumption. Any discussions on if he is or isn't "The Real Slim Shady" can be left to the numerous other CW threads.
4  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Fee market or Fullblockapolypse on: February 29, 2016, 03:51:16 PM
I had a discussion with AlexGR in the snake pit (Wall Observer) and I am curious to see if anyone in technical has an opinion on the network spikes we're seeing.

Have you noticed that the mempool tends to bloat up massively whenever the price moves $10-$15?

Spam? Dust? Or people desperately trying to move coins to make a trade?

Why isn't there a fee spike then? Are those "desperate" people to "make a trade" lacking 2-3-4 cents? Would it be a big impact to their wallet to pay such a small fee if they are going to make so much money from a good trade?

Because they are users.

They do what's supposed to work and it doesn't.

Not that adding fees will make the blocks bigger anyway.

Jeebus [expletive deleted] Creebus!

https://tradeblock.com/bitcoin/

1.86 million XBT stuck in the mempool!

Gimme a break:

1,900,982.81 XBT (x440 = 836mn USD)

Total fees
4.8090 XBT (x 440 = 2115 USD)

"We want to move around 836mn USD but are only willing to pay 2k in fees so we will wait a few hours or days".

Makes sense, doesn't it?

No, it doesn't. Which sort of shows that the fee market doesn't work.

Maybe we should invite Mike Hearn back so he can sort this out.

The fee market works great:

Can you see who are waiting? Oh yes, those who pay the least.
5  Local / Skandinavisk / Er Bitcoins Norway død? on: August 05, 2015, 06:36:15 AM

6  Bitcoin / Legal / What tax bracket to register under as a miner on: May 21, 2015, 08:45:55 AM
I've been in contact with the Norwegian tax authorities regarding which tax bracket / industry code to register under as a fully fledged Bitcoin mining company, and they have basically given up and sent the question back to me(?!?!). They are wondering what they do in comparable countries like the US, UK, Netherlands or Sweden and similar. So if anyone has registered, or know what to register under in their country it would be helpful for me and hopefully for others as well.

Any information will be appreciated.

8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / ***** The Very Unofficial Ethereum / Ether Mining Thread ***** on: March 08, 2015, 03:26:44 PM
As the launch of the "real" ethereum network is near I thought it would be useful to have a place to share our mining experiences.

Here we can talk about issues related to setting up a miner, including but not limited to:

* Software compatibility
* Hardware compatibility
* Hardware performance
* Mining strategies
* Developments regarding Pow/Pos
* Profitability calculations

Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with The Ethereum Project whatsoever. In the words of Manuel: "I know nothing...".
9  Local / Skandinavisk / Søker investor til nordnorsk datasenter. *** Prosjektet er avsluttet *** on: February 24, 2015, 11:00:23 PM
