I have some dumpfiles. from 4 bitcoin installation on my W1ndows 10 desktop. I am running the latest version. The dumpfiles where created with the previous version-
when running the command "importwallet" I get 2 different responces.
"null" which I interpret as OK
"Error: std::bad_alloc" which I do not understand.
I have checked the input files and they look ok

I have 4 instances of bitcoin installed on my desktop and laptop. I want o consolidate them to one version.
I have a "virgin" running and will consolidate the other 3 into it
If I have understod it correctly I have 2 choices.
1. Transfer the funds the convential way 2. Create dumpfiles from the donators and import these files to the new fresh instance.
Option 2 seems to be the simple way and also provides me with backup files but I would like get some cons and pros from this forum. A related question is if the donator wallets are cleared by the dumpwallet command.
Thanks Ingvar. From a cold Stockholm/Sweden

I am upgrading from 0.14 to 0.18 I have copied the folder containing the 0.14 to a backup folder. My plan was to just replace the exe file in the current folder. Downloading the 0.18 version gives me a complete installation not just the exe file.
So that was not a valid procedure. What is the correct procedure to upgrade? If I understand things correctly I could do a clean install of 0.18 and use the current vallet What is the vallet? the complete data folder?

My current release is 0.14.2 on Windows
It is some time since I synced it.
I am creating a new directory for new version and also for data.
Now I have two options.
- Sync the current version - Copy program and data to new location - install new version on the new location OR - copy the current version and data to the new locations - Install new version on new location - Perform sync
What would be the best choice or does it not matter?

The "default" configuration when running bitcoin on a computer seems to be to store all data in the same folder and pass the data directory that hold both blockchain and the wallet when starting bitcoin Core.
I travel between Stockholm and Las Palmas so I would like to store the blockchain part on my file server. I do not want to store my wallet on the file server.
Is it possible to have different directories for the wallet and the blockchain data?

I have the bitcoin program (0.9.2.1 Swedish version) on my C-drive and my data on a "QNAP" server running 2 mirror disks. The server is on my home IP network. Unfortunately I had a disruption on the connection to the server.
When I start The program I get the following message (In Swedish actually so I translate it )
"Bad or no genesis block found. Wrong data directory on network?"
How to proceed??
