1  Economy / Services / [Hiring] Need simple PCB design for a completed circuit schematic on: February 15, 2015, 05:23:24 AM
I have the circuit drawn up and have already built and tested it on a breadboard. I drew up the circuit on 123d.circuits.io but got lost at the stage of trying to design the PCB with tracing leads, copper fill and backplanes etc.

The circuit only has 2 transistors, a resistor and a diode so I wouldn't think it would be too hard for someone who is knowledgeable in this area.

What I need now is the PCB design that I can email or take to a SMT shop to have some prototypes printed up for testing.

Based on some very preliminary research on pricing I was imagining this job would cost me in the 0.15-0.25BTC range but I'm not an engineer and this is my first foray into this kind of work so I am a bit flexible on pay if an offer with explanation of work involved sounds fair.

PM me if interested to get the project details.

Thanks.
2  Economy / Auctions / KNC Jupiter | Fast Auction | In Hand and Ready To Ship on: October 18, 2013, 01:47:05 AM
Auction is for a KNC Jupiter miner.  This miner is in hand and ready to be boxed and delivered ASAP after payment clears.

At pool hashrate has been around ~520-535 since upgrading to latest firmware 0.96 about 2-3 hours ago.

Starting bid is 57 BTC.  For anyone that wants the miner faster I'll accept and close the auction for the first offer I get for 65 BTC.

I am located in Phoenix AZ.  Buyer pays for shipping.

Willing to use escrow and will also accept bank wires or money orders if USD preferred (to be calculated using winning BTC bid price at close of auction using Coinbase conversion rate).

Auction ends 10/21/2013 02:00 UTC time (Sunday 7pm PST).

Timer removed. End time: 2013-10-21+02:00UTC

Thank you.
3  Bitcoin / Project Development / New coffee shop in Mesa, AZ : Gauging nearby bitcoin interest. on: July 21, 2013, 05:04:51 AM
Will be opening a coffee shop in Mesa, AZ on 7-25 (next thursday).  Well maybe calling it a shop is a bit generous, will just be an inline store in a mall food court.  Originally I was hoping to accept bitcoin for purchases at our opening, however dealing with everything associated with starting a new retail food business plus working 45-50hrs/wk has been exhausting enough.  I now plan to wait a few weeks or more and get my employees familiar with the current POS system before trying to implement another payment method.  A few things I was hoping to have a discussion about.

1. Local bitcoin interest.
I'm assuming that once implemented, bitcoin will account for a very small portion of our sales.  I have no idea how popular bitcoins are in the greater Phoenix area.  If your local let me know if you'd be interested in this (PM or reply here is fine).  If it looks like there are more than just a small handful of people that are looking for coffee for bitcoins here then I will possibly move this up the priority list and try to get it in place sooner rather than later.

2. Potential bitcoin meetup spot.
I believe as a lease holder I can reserve some small conference space periodically for free.  I'll have to look into it further as I'm not sure if there are restrictions on what you can use the space for or how big it is.  However it might be a decent location for a small bitcoin meetup group.  I personally have no time or interest in networking and setting this up, however if someone else in the area was interested I could work with them to reserve the space and provide free coffee and possibly pastries for their attendees.  PM me if this is something you'd like to pursue.

3. Revenue calculation and implementation for bitcoin acceptance.
Currently we have an iPad running the SalesVu app (square competitor) as my POS.  Part of my lease terms are to pay the mall a percentage over a set base sales figure.  I figure I'll most likely use BitPay and keep sales in BTC however I have no intention of essentially stealing from the mall by not calculating BTC purchases as part of my monthly revenue.  Over the next couple weeks I'll contact BitPay and verify they can provide me with monthly reports on USD value at time of sales for all BTC purchases but figure it would be nice to hear from others with a similar setup as mine and see how they are handling their BTC sales.

If/when we open and are accepting payment with bitcoins I'll create an announcement post with more specific information about the shop.  Thanks.
4  Economy / Speculation / Ted Talk: The pattern behind self-deception on: July 08, 2013, 08:11:42 AM
Excellent TED Talk about the brain's recognition of patterns: http://www.ted.com/talks/michael_shermer_the_pattern_behind_self_deception.html.

Seems applicable to many things you see on this sub-forum.

One of my takeaways from this video was don't do your cocaine and TA at the same time.
5  Bitcoin / Hardware / Lower BTC Price: Potential risk for mass speculative refunds on ASIC orders? on: July 06, 2013, 08:09:12 AM
The thought occurred to me that as BTC price falls there may come a point where those with preorders for some ASICs may determine that a refund in USD put straight into BTC will net them more BTC than will be generated in the life of their ASIC.  Anyone with orders for purely the BTC ROI potential should then at that point all refund and buy BTC direct as this will net them more BTC instantly with no electricity cost than they expect to earn hashing on the machine.

As an example I have an order in for $7k for a KNC Jupiter.  I paid ~60BTC and estimate that I will mine 150BTC over it's lifetime (pure example figures for illustration).  Currently at $70/BTC I could refund and buy approx. 100BTC, at $46.66 a refund would earn 150BTC bought bitcoins making it an even BTC ROI, at $25 the same refund would get me 280BTC and would be the obvious best BTC ROI.

Note that my ASIC order isn't purely driven by desired BTC ROI and I see much value in adding hashrate to the network and wouldn't mind having an ASIC rig just to play around with.  I have no plans of refunding my order to buy BTC.  However if at some point enough people have this idea inevitably leading to bankrupt KNC by creating a "bank run" on the company due to not being able to refund orders since much of their capital being tied up in NRE costs, I'd rather be one of the first ones out rather than the last.

What do you guys think?  Is there a certain BTC price where this should start to be a concern to consider?  I rolled the dice on KNC and I think there is a decent chance first day orders will be received on time and make a good BTC profit, however I like to be prepared for any potential situations that may arise over the next few months.  Definitely not trying to create any FUD/panic/drama and I sincerely hope this is a complete non-issue but I'd still like to get others' opinions on it.

6  Economy / Speculation / Idea for exchange feature: public profile trade tracking on: April 22, 2013, 03:46:54 AM
Had an idea that I thought would be interesting.  What if an exchange allowed customers to set certain accounts as publicly view-able, where if turned on a link would be generated that would allow anyone to follow the accounts activity.  In this way traders could declare trading strategies, create a public account and let followers see how profitable (or not) they are over time with it.

For bonus points they could even allow notes to be attached to each trade where the trader could briefly explain the thought process behind each trade.  This way a trader could deviate from a stated strategy and explain what circumstances changed to cause them to make this decision.

I could see some some people try to game this, create lots of accounts and trade small amounts then public post the profiles with successful histories.  However once publicly displayed people could continue to track the progress and see if the success holds up over time.

Not sure if there would be enough incentive for an exchange to code this but I imagine they could put some ads and generate income on popular and widely followed accounts.  Plus if lots of new traders followed these and they were only offered by one exchange it would likely push many to use them instead of a competitor.

Here's a quick, horrible image of how I think it might look:

Think there would be interest in this?  Did I not think something obvious through?
7  Bitcoin / Mining support / BAMT 0.5c - cgminer 2.6.1 - Litecoins - Motherboard burst into flames on: March 30, 2013, 05:25:24 AM
Haha, from the title I'm sure you can guess I fucked something up good.

For fun I figured I'd try out mining some Litecoins in BAMT on my 4x GPU rig (5770, 5830, 2x 5850).

I started off using the settings for cgminer on the bitcointrading.com guide (which works great and I've since swapped back to):

"intensity" : "15,15,15,15",
"worksize" : "256,256,256,256",
"kernel" : "scrypt,scrypt,scrypt,scrypt",
"gpu-engine" : "620-725,620-725,620-725,620-725",
"gpu-fan" : "20-85,20-85,20-85,20-85",
"gpu-memclock" : "1000,1000,1000,1000",

I think I swapped the settings to something like:

"intensity" : "20,20,20,20",
"worksize" : "256,256,256,256",
"kernel" : "scrypt,scrypt,scrypt,scrypt",
"gpu-engine" : "900,900,900,900",
"gpu-fan" : "20-85,20-85,20-85,20-85",
"gpu-memclock" : "1250,1250,1250,1250",

The very instant I hit enter to restart cgminer after settings changed the computer powered off and smoke billowed out of the top of the case.  Looking around at side with the cover off the motherboard was on fire.  I've heard of this happening before but I didn't realize it be that instant.

The rig has paid for itself a long time ago and no other components got damaged so all in all not that big of a deal, but if your setting up something similar be careful how you setup cgminer if you don't want your motherboard on fire.

===========================================================================

Also I suppose this thread is as good as any to announce my Litecoin mining colocation service:

1. You send me your hardware
2. I choose the settings to maximize Litecoin production from your rigs
3. I have cheap electricity
4. We can share the profits

What could go wrong? PM for details!
8  Other / Off-topic / Free online courses with Udacity.com (Applied Cryptography) on: July 03, 2012, 06:04:25 PM
Just found out about Udacity.com and the free online courses they provide.  Looks intriguing and I'm thinking about taking a couple of their classes.

What caught my eye was they have a course in applied cryptography.  In the syllabus and intro video it talks about covering "digital cash" and how cryptography can be used "to make money from nothing but numbers".

Thought it might be a good resource for those interested.

9  Other / Off-topic / Security B-Sides PHX on: February 19, 2012, 05:07:53 AM
Went to the Phoenix Security B-Sides Convention today http://www.securitybsides.com/w/page/48438585/BSidesPHX

Haven't been to too many of these types of things but this one was a lot of fun.  The hands-on metasploit class was well done and the lockpick village was very interesting as I've never dabbled in lock-picking before.  What really struck me was the level of quality of everything for a free event, where they also fed you lunch, gave free t-shirts (they gave me 3 since they had extras), and then more free beer and food afterwards.  I've been told there are some other similar local metasploit training classes for absurds amount of money.

If any of you see them come to your local area I would recommend checking it out.  Not a bad way to spend a Saturday.
