1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Will An Altcoin Ever Surpass the Value of Bitcoin? on: February 15, 2015, 05:04:33 AM
Or become a respectable fraction of the value of Bitcoin; forget becoming equal or surpass its value.

Its been six years, maybe 2000 odd me-toos. Is it time to give up? There is usually a time to stop trying on a new business ideas (or clone).

The simple thought I have is we really can't have an altcoin close to the value of bitcoin, why do we (as a community) continue to waste our time (and money/resources) with more and more new altcoins.

Please share your valuable thoughts.

Thanks
2  Economy / Economics / Biggest Hurdle To Currency Adoption on: January 17, 2015, 04:21:24 PM
I was just reading somewhere that over 70% of BTC in circulation are owned by just about 1.29% of the BTC wallets. This accounts for over 41% of BTC that will ever be created. In contrast the top 1% fiat wallets in the US had about 30% of the nation's currency backed assets.

If this is true (I request our meticulous economists to vet it http://www.dioxidized.com/2014/10/10/bitcoins-wealth-concentration-creates-significant-hurdles-for-those-who-might-consider-adopting-it/ ), how can we expect BTC to become anywhere close to mainstream currency ? I guess BTC distribution among wallets will need to become far more even before any level of mass adoption can begin.

3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Calling All Legendary, Hero & Informed Members For Insight on: January 17, 2015, 07:14:09 AM
I have been re attracted to altcoin technologies after maybe 8 years. I find fabulous potential fits for component technologies as they have evolved until yesterday. But I find very few genuine applications.

After combing through this forum for over 11 days I find confirmed scams, evolving scams and going to be scams. While nobody can prevent that, and maybe I haven't been able to reach the right stuff, I request informed members to share genuine businesses (or ideas) fuelled by altcoin technologies. To me a business is something that gives more money than it takes; including to its users on a continuing basis.

Thanks for your inputs.
4  Economy / Trading Discussion / Can I hold a short position for months or years ? on: January 17, 2015, 06:42:09 AM
Can I hold a short position in BTC vs any other for months or years ? Please restrict to top five exchanges only as liquidity alone defines an exchange.

Thank you
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why Satoshi Nakamoto Remains Anonymous on: January 17, 2015, 04:41:30 AM
I am sure this question keeps bugging lot of folks like me. My guesses

1 SN (I will use SN because I don't know if it is a he/she or they) foresaw what we have seen happening with BTC (and copies/improvements) in the last seven years and didn't want to be known as the originator of such a course of events

2 SN was a government agent; which government should be easy to guess. After finishing the mandate such a person/group will obviously need to stay away from claiming it.

Thanks for your wise inputs.

7  Economy / Trading Discussion / BTC Exchanges With Finite Open Time & a Finite Closing Time on: January 15, 2015, 01:01:56 PM
Hi Everyone

Please let me know if there are any BTC exchanges with a finite opening time and a finite closing time as almost all exchanges in the fiat economy do. Even the forex exchanges close down for the weekend. But at least the largest BTC exchanges I have looked at are stated to be 24x7x365.

Please list all BTC exchanges that have a well defined trading session; whether for 23 hours a day or 5 days a week.

I am also interested to know the holidays list of these exchanges.

Thanks for your help.
8  Other / Off-topic / The Monkey Trader on: January 12, 2015, 05:27:33 AM
Foreigner comes to a remote village. He notices the villages infested with monkeys. Folks ask him what do you do ? He says I am a monkey trader. I buy monkeys in villages like yours and sell them to my customers.

So villagers ask him How much do you pay for a monkey ? He says one dollar. Villagers are surprised; some even think if he is a fool. So they bring all the monkeys and collect their $1 reward per monkey.

Next week there are few monkeys left in the village so villagers have to venture out to spot, catch and bring monkeys. Noticing their increasing difficulty the Monkey Trader raises the reward to $2 a monkey.

Another week passes by and there are far less monkeys left in neigboring villages. The Monkey Trader keeps on raising the reward per monkey until it reaches $50.

Comes a weekend the Monkey Trader needs to go to the city to attend some urgent work. His assistant called all the villagers to the huge monkey cage where the Monkey Trader had been storing all the monkeys he had bought from the villagers. And tells them : I have been working for this Monkey Trader for 5 years; he doesn't give me a salary hike and makes me work harder while he keeps all the profits. So I have decided to offer you all these monkeys at half price $25 a piece. If you wish you can buy them and sell it back to the Monkey Trader when he comes back tomorrow.

The villagers are excited. They go home to fish out all the money they had. Some even borrow from their relatives & friends. And they come back to the assistant to buy all the monkeys in the cage at $25 a piece in the hope of doubling their money the very next day when the Monkey Trader comes back to the village.

The assistant is too happy to sell all the monkeys and gifts the last 4 which nobody bought to those who bought the largest number of monkeys. Happy villagers come home with their bounty.

Next morning the assistant disappears from the village. And the Monkey Trader was never seen by the villagers again.

Do you see any parallels in the altcoin economy ?
