Bitcoin / Press / [2016-10-21] ViaBTC Rises: How A Mysterious Miner Could Decide Bitcoin's Future
on: October 21, 2016, 02:33:13 AM
Bitcoin's "most professional mining pool" has become its most controversial. Following months of debate over how to scale bitcoin's transaction capacity, the conversation has become newly contentious as progress on much-hyped solutions continue to face the kinds of delays that perhaps should be expected when working with novel technologies. This lack of progress (real or perceived) has so far most affected bitcoin's business community, many of which are dependent on technical improvements in the network for additional growth. Indeed, while bitcoin's primary development group has its share of detractors, the majority of startups and servicer providers continue to support Bitcoin Core and its work. But if one, relatively new bitcoin mining pool has its way, a much anticipated scaling solution could be dead on arrival. In recent weeks, China's ViaBTC became one of the first providers of mining software to switch its client from the official version provided by Bitcoin Core to an option provided by Bitcoin Unlimited, a rival development group that supports alternative methods of scaling that is focused on creating a more variable bitcoin block size. http://www.coindesk.com/viabtc-mystery-miner-bitcoin-scaling-future/

Bitcoin price enjoyed a boost in volatility yesterday, allowing it to break past the short-term channel resistance. Price is now making its way to the top of a longer-term bullish channel visible on the 4-hour time frame. Technical indicators are also suggesting that buying pressure could be in for the long run. The 100 SMA is crossing above the longer-term 200 SMA to show that buyers are taking control of bitcoin price action. These moving averages are in line with the 4-hour bullish channel support at $610, adding to its strength as a floor. Bitcoin seems to have its sights set on the $650-655 area from here. http://www.newsbtc.com/2016/10/12/bitcoin-price-technical-analysis-10122016-aiming-higher/

Virtual currency trading is a lucrative activity, which comes with its own risks. If not chosen properly, the trading and investment platforms themselves may pose a much greater risk than the volatility associated with cryptocurrencies. The increasing number of virtual currency based Ponzi schemes that promise huge returns have got law enforcement agencies concerned. These schemes are prevalent across the globe, attracting millions of dollars in investment. The Ministry of Public Security in Vietnam has warned people about the risks of trading and investing virtual currencies. http://www.newsbtc.com/2016/10/07/virtual-currencies-ponzi-schemes-vietnam/

In a first of its kind meeting this Monday, October 3rd, an open televised session organized by economist and member of parliament Mirosław Suchoń saw a discussion and lectures that saw bitcoin and blockchain under the spotlight. Bitcoin Macro Silver The state of legislative regulation concerning companies in the bitcoin ecosystem in the country was among the main concerns bought forward by industry representatives. While the industry isn’t against regulation, the argument was for laws that wouldn’t stifle the innovation or those who were already invested in the ecosystem. https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/government-poland-discussed-bitcoin-week-encouragingly/

on: October 07, 2016, 01:55:42 PM
With cyber.Fund using Steemit as a template, Voice is intended to cater to the uniqueness of the Russian people, as contributions to the Steemit website are primarily in English, although there are posts in a few other languages. In an official release by Bitcoin Conference Russia, cyber.Fund stated that they looked to create a decentralized social network for authors, bloggers and journalists to be able to publish their work, leveraging the immutability of the blockchain to circumvent censorship. Steem is a new class of cryptocurrency that is generated by the activity of the people on its social media component. It’s similar to Reddit, Twitter, Instagram or Facebook, in that users can make and comment on posts, upload images, and post links to streaming video or audio, but unlike these social media platforms, users creating and curating the content are paid for their efforts, as their participation generates the cryptocurrency applied to their wallets. https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/new-blockchain-social-media-platform-speaks-with-a-russian-voice/

Bitcoin / Press / [2016-10-01] Bitfury’s Payment Routing Algorithm Undergoes Successful Tests
on: October 01, 2016, 01:13:40 AM
Bitfury’s Payment Routing Algorithm Undergoes Successful Tests on Lightning Network Bitfury’s new payment routing algorithm (known as Flare) has been implemented on the Lightning Network following a successful test period by French startup ACINQ. The idea stems back to July of this year, when Bitfury released a white paper discussing the algorithm and what would be needed to grant it successful, “lightning-fast” integration. ACINQ then spent time testing the algorithm with approximately 2,500 AWS nodes, and discovered that payment methods were typically found roughly within .5 seconds about 80 percent of the time. The algorithm is slated to be fast, effective, and likely to serve as a major push for blockchain and digital currency services. http://www.newsbtc.com/2016/09/30/35753/

Bitcoin / Press / [2016-09-24] Blockchain Summit Day One: Highlights From Shanghai
on: September 23, 2016, 07:47:32 PM
A busy first day of Blockchain Summit, part of International Blockchain Week in Shanghai, was filled with product demonstrations and discussions on security and regulation. Presenters included Joseph Lubin, founder of ConsenSys; Tim Swanson of R3; Feng Xiao, founder of conference sponsor Wangxiang Blockchain Labs; Jeremy Allaire and Sean Neville of Circle; Josh Whelan of Santander and Tyler Smith of BHP Billiton. Here are some of the highlights. Vitalik Buterin Kicks It Off Welcoming attendees, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin remarked on the growth in interest in blockchain since his first visit to China in 2014. He noted how, on that trip, he knew of two or three companies that were interested in the technology; after six months, governments and banks were taking notice. Now the space is diversified. Buterin said that people were "now beginning to realize the possibilities we thought of in 2014." He made a comparison to the internet, saying there's "not one annual conference where people decide the internet." "Once it grows big enough, it naturally grows diverse," Buterin said. https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/blockchain-summit-day-one-highlights-from-shanghai-1474658878

Bitcoin / Press / [2016-09-23]Bitwage Announces Payment-verified Reputation System For Freelancers
on: September 23, 2016, 12:30:00 PM
Bitwage continues to make a name for itself in the payroll business. The company has announced the launch of their new “My Employment” feature. This new offering lets users create a payment-verified professional profile, and creates a reputation system for Bitwage users. This should help freelancers and other remote workers increase their [international] client base. For a lot of people, the Bitwage service is a solution to a lingering problem. Getting paid, especially when contacted by someone over the internet, is not an easy feat. A lot of workers deal with delayed payments, or they end up losing a lot of money due to intermediary fees. Using Bitcoin for this type of business is a no-brainer, and Bitwage has been merging the two worlds since July of 2014. While the company makes it a lot easier for workers to receive payments at cheaper rates, it did not solve a bigger problem. A lot of freelance workers struggle to find new clients to work for. Since none of the existing Bitcoin-oriented platforms offers a viable reputation system for paid work, Bitwage has come up with a solution. http://www.newsbtc.com/2016/09/23/bitwage-announces-payment-verified-reputation-system-freelancers/
