Looking to buy a prepaid VISA card with $300 USD on it so I can do some online shopping. I don't need a physical card, just numbers so I can use it online. Prefer to use escrow. PM if interested, and thank you.

Came across this site when using BitVisitor - http://www.btccheap.com/index.htmlIt looks to be a mining service where you send in an amount of bitcoins and you get a percentage of their mining income after 2-3 days. I couldn't find a thread here about it, so I wanted to bring this before others. They supposedly are using the income to finance more than they could on their own, but couldn't really find any more details on how this should work or why such a short time for the turnaround. There is a page here that says what their current hardware is. Any thoughts on this?

I'm listed on localbitcoins.com, but the last time I did any person to person trading was back when BTC was valued at $5/each and I sold very few of them. Now I have somebody wanting to buy much more in USD from me and I want to protect both myself and the person. Does anybody have any tips/best practices for doing this? Outside of the obvious such as meeting in public, etc etc - more on the mechanics to make sure both of us fulfill our ends of the bargain.

A friend and I are both getting this error when trying to create a new wallet. The same errors occur across browsers, with alias or without, etc. Decoded Key address does not match generated address Does anybody know what might be causing this error?

I'm having two issues mining from a work PC. Don't know if I can get it to work, but figured I might as well post to find out if we can solve it. #1 - The GUIMiner download for the latest version isn't working. Don't know if I'm the only one having this issue, but Chrome give me the error "Download Error" with no more information, and IE says that I need administrative permissions to "make changes to this file". Except I'm this computer's local admin. Also attempted to get the file using a fetch feature from OpenDrive which will download any file not behind any password protected areas into my OpenDrive account where I can then access it online. It gets to 132b and then fails. Anybody else having this problem? #2 - When I try to use Ufasoft or Minerd, I get the below errors: Ufasoft Error 80072F88: The HTTP redirect request must be confirmed by the user Minerd [2012-08-11 14:03:52] 4 miner threads started, using 'scrypt' algorithm. [2012-08-11 14:03:52] JSON decode failed(1): '[' or '{' expected near '<' [2012-08-11 14:03:52] json_rpc_call failed, retry after 30 seconds I'm sure that my workplace is monitoring internet access for compliance with standards/whatnot. Are these errors representative of that, or am I looking at something else? Is there a way to get around these errors? EDIT: I see that the boards have changed since I came here last, and this should probably be moved to the "Mining Support" subcategory. Sorry for the poor post, everybody. Is it possible for a mod to move it, or should I just recreate?

I couldn't find an answer to this question elsewhere, and I'm assuming it's been answered before, so perhaps somebody can point me there. Why is difficulty only calculated every two weeks? This seems to cause issues either when calculating power is going up (causing blocks to be mined faster than anticipated) or when going down (causing blocks to be mined slower than anticipated). Does anybody know the rationale for going with a 2016 block window, rather than, say, a 144 block window for recalculation taking into account the last 2016 blocks for averaging purposes and to minimize abuse of the system? It also seems like the difficulty change would harm people who use bitcoin as the available hashing power drops, as their transactions will go through slower, and miners will mine fewer blocks gaining fewer rewards.
Again, sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, I couldn't find it with the search function, or with Google.

Posting this for the_joey_o, who has lost his ability to post, and has already contacted DiabloD3 about it, but still wants to ask. First: I've heard that with Windows 7, you have to have a separate monitor for every GPU. Is this correct? Is there any way around this (besides going to Linux)?
Second: I've built and repaired computers before, but I've never worked with slot extenders/adapters or any specialized cooling systems. I've got two PCI-E X16, two PCI and two PCI X1 slots on my mobo. If I wanted 4 or more 5770s to mine bitcoins, what sort of adapter is best for this? Edit: I mentioned to the_joey_o that there was some work on here before of people using PCIE x1 slots to connect a GPU to it. Is that something that is actually viable?
Third, I understand I'm going to be doing a fair amount of jerry-rigging here, so what cooling systems should I be looking at?

So, I leave for a few weeks, and you take the price of BTC and make it 30x. And you do it right after I sold my BTC and forgot to check my account. Shame on you all - I would have made $1,500 instead of the $50 I sold at. Ah, Cest la Vie.
So, I'm trying to use Kiv's GUI miner (Nice improvements in it, BTW) and can't get it to recognize my card, a 5870 that worked in my last machine. I see in that thread that it says to change drivers to a new version and that clears it up sometimes - my questions is that I'm having trouble finding out what driver version I'm using right now.
I'm running Stream 2.1, if that matters.
Glad to be back!

This system ( http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4868.0) used to work flawlessly for me, but now it has stopped downloading the blockchain. I hadn't opened it in awhile, so I did this morning and let it sit. When I came back to it, the client is sitting right where it started, at block 117882, 8 connections, and won't download any more blocks. I closed it, opened it up and saw it go to 117883, so I minimized the window. An hour later, it is still at that level. Each time I open the client I download 1 block and then it stops. Edit: While typing this the client suddenly dropped connections down to 6, downloaded up to block 117903, increased connections to 8, and then stopped again. Anybody have any ideas about what is causing this?

I'm having a problem with coffee4bitcoin. I placed an order on March 29th, and have not yet received it. I sent an email via the contact form at https://www.nanaimogold.com/contact.php, and have not received a response. It has been 20 hours since the email was sent. I was going to wait until 24 hours went without hearing before posting here, but I'm not sure if I'll have time to post later today. Does anybody know if there's an issue? Edit: I see on the website that there's a warning dated April 10th that he can't take new orders - perhaps this is what's causing the delay, although that was posted 11 days after my order was placed.

I recently received quite a few old computers and extra components, so I'd like to figure out how to extract the gold and/or anything else valuable from them. Does anybody have advice on how to find the gold in the machine, extract it, etc?

I just noticed I've discovered 4 blocks for slush's pool, 3 in the last week. I seem to be speeding up:
Weeks 1-4 = no blocks Weeks 5-8 = 1 block Week 9 = 3 blocks
Better watch out! Soon, I'll mine so fast I have to start rehashing the entire blockchain just for something to do!
Also, I'm sure going from CPU mining to GPU had nothing to do with this.

Back in the day before fast internet connections were standard, I used Free Download Manager. Currently, I'm looking for a portable download manager that I can use on a thumb drive as I go computer to computer. However, I noticed two things about my old choice:
1) It isn't portable 2) It reports what you are downloading to their servers
I'd like to find a portable download manager that doesn't report everything I'm doing back to somebody else who is just going to use it to sell me ads. Does anybody have any recommendations? I will be plugging the thumb drive into primarily windows based systems.

From the beginning of me looking at bitcoin, to the comments that I've heard people over and over talk about, I've wondered about why we call the file that keeps your keypairs "wallet.dat". A wallet is something you put money into, but your money is not stored there, and so people ask about synchronizing their wallets. Many people end up confused by having to diassociate the definition of "wallet" from what they've believed all their life, to the new definition. I've done it myself, instead of realizing that it's more like a key to Fort Knox.
The blockchain contains all of the money. Everything that exists is stored there. Your "wallet.dat" key gives you access to the amount of BTC that is available to it. No money is stored in the "wallet", it just exists to let you look at the little money you own. In that regard, it's more like a silver/gold certificate, or a stock, than a wallet.
Even now, I'm not sure what a good, one-word summary of this concept is. But maybe we would have less confusion about how to "synchronize clients/wallets" if we stopped calling that file the "wallet" and called it something else. Perhaps "deed", or "voucher", or "credentials"? I like credentials, because it is easier to say "just apply your credentials to the Bitcoin program, and it will show you your balance". Credentials already has the connotation of something that you carry to get access to it, so then if you "lose your credentials" you lose access to the money that you had access to.
What are other's thoughts on this? I just know that in my short 1.5 months around this, I've seen lots and lots of people asking about their wallet file, and how it stores money. When many people are confused, I've learned that frequently the easiest thing to do is to change the terminology.

Since hijacking a pool support thread will just make everybody confused when support starts to mix with discussion, please discuss the accusations made here. This matches slush's number of blocks found in the hall of fame. Coincidence, I think not!!! While is was clearly noticeable to those who have watched this the last few weeks, something changed in the last 24 hours as slush's block count in the hall of fame hasn't increased from the 96 blocks it is currently sitting at, but the received balance of account 1FijBR5s3EU1JS3UokzTZbkAibgL4SXzxm has increased by 100 bitcoins. It appears I've missed something. After doing some digging as to what would have caused slush's block count to stop increasing while this address is still collecting bitcoins I stumbled across a post on the bitcoin forums from a user (h00ters) who accused slush of “Slush is taking BTC from the top when no one watches..... “. The message from h00ters was posted at 2011-03-22 05:46:38 in the bitcoinpool.com thread. Now take a closer look at the last 3 blocks found by [ 1FijBR5s3EU1JS3UokzTZbkAibgL4SXzxm ] with the time of h00ters post. All times are listed in UTC. Block 114425 (2011-03-21 17:00:59) Block 114557 (2011-03-22 17:13:51) [h00ters post] (2011-03-22 17:46:38) Block 114706 (2011-03-23 17:39:59) Slush has stated his hall of fame page is delayed by 1 hour <seen here>, which leaves him enough time to see the post from h00ters, and put a stop on his block count from going up. I don't know about you, but this is just too much evidence and too much of a coincidence for me to continue mining in slush's pool. I firmly believe that he has in fact been skimming from the top, and to top off this entire day slush is now having problems with his wallet.dat file and can't pay anyone out, and has quit tracking confirmed rewards as of a few hours ago. I believe he has realized that a bug in his code ultimately has results in two blocks revealing what it is he's been doing since 2011-02-11. h00ters called him out, and he is now in a panic to try and undo his mistakes. I don't know about you, but 4900 bitcoins being taken by the pool operator from his own pool is enough to make me say I've had enough of slush's pool and I will not continue to help him put more bitcoins into his personal slush fund. You can verify this with slush's past 1000 shares at: http://mining.bitcoin.cz/stats/?history=1000You can also look at slush's solved block count at: http://mining.bitcoin.cz/stats/hall-of-fame/ An archived copy of the last 1000 shares as of 03-21-2011 is at: http://www.mediafire.com/?k3g27u2w45l235m An archived copy of the last 1000 shares as of 03-14-2011 is at: http://www.mediafire.com/?s7fbwxwlb62uwaf If you know what's good for you, get out of this pool. Any other pool is probably more honest than this pool. Hey slush, I'm out of your pool forever.
